I made a scenario involving the French vs United States on the high seas. They have no trouble finding me and shooting my F-35C's down with great regularity. Yet I never seem to find thier? Rafales. I know it is a good plane, but come on it can't be that good. It even hunts down my F-22's with ease. I love this game. Sorry for the complainning. -Rich

I'm tinkering with the platform editor at the moment and have a few questions about the way fuel consumption works. As I understand it you set the range for particular loadouts. So what is the significance of the range figure in the aircraft description form. Is that just for reference? Also what is the significance of the fuel entry? Surely the fuel consumption etc. is modelled simply as range? Thanks Paragon

Discussions on chat revolving around possible inclusion of generic radars. TPS-43 Use:3D Large:315, Medium:195, Small:126, VSmall: 57, and Stealthy:32 TPS-44 Use:AS Large:162, Medium:100, Small:65, VSmall:29, and Stealthy:16 May be dated as these apparently were employed in Falklands.

I notice that both the RQ-4A Global Hawk Block 10 and the RQ-4B Global Hawk Block 20 seem to have exactly the same range listed in the "weapons" display, even though the Block 20 is supposed to have rather greater range, and claims to have 14,000 nm range (vs 12,500 for the Block 10) on the "Unit Display" popup. Is this proper?

  6. Ok. If I understand this correctly - essentially the commondb.res is the database for weapons/sensors/platforms (ships/subs/airplanes) and bases. AS I recall somewhere there is an application that will convert the file (commondb.res) into either Microsoft Excel or Access Database format - a little easier for viewing and analysis. What is the application that I am thinking about? Should it already be on my computer with Install of harpoon - or where is it located within the HARPGAMER site. thanks in advance

First of all, I'd like to say thanks for the insane amount of work that has been put into this DB! Looking at the installation list I'm seeing every imaginable US military installation! Given that the period 1980 to 1990 has always been the time period I've considered likely for the Cold War to get out of hand, this DB is targeted for me. :) I have noticed that a lot of the aircraft, and possibly other platforms-I haven't checked, lack a value for a field, Runway in the case of a/c. I also notice that these aircraft are not available for assignment within ScenEdit unless you go into Platform Editor and fill in a value for Runway; ie once I put VLarge in the Runwa…

Hi, there´s a new db out for HCG2004. It is focused on GIUK/Atlantique Ocean/Mediteranean. IOPG is also supported but only very limited and it is not sure that this theater will be supported in the future. It is a regional DB for the period from around 1975-2005. The db is still in a BETA state! So please feel free to report all errors/wishes/hints/etc to the author (me). Get it here: http://www.harpgamer.com/databases/HC_EURODB-050306.zip The main difference is the changed philosophy for base structure. All long range weapons (SAM/SSM) will be removed from Habours/Airbases. So a Scen-Writer has to add mobile Units to replace the SAMs with improved de…

Hi guys, after a "Very educational night" along Rook and HermanH, i'm thinking more and more about "specialized" databases, let's call them "thematics" databases, as they'll be intended to be exhaustive on a determined geographic area (Europe,Pacific,IO), timeline (Cold's war end '89-'91, Lebanon,...) or a fictional background (WWIII, United States of Europe,...). Why several databases rather than a big one? Because databases have their technical limitations and an only one database can't be exhaustive without being far bigger than actual limits allow. So, thematics DBs will alow to be exhaustive on platforms thanks to clear spatio-temporal limits. How can i (pl…

So the general idea as I understand it, is the America's database will allow the ships and the air assets to be fully described for the North, South- and Central American countries. And some of the other 'interested parties' such as UK, Russia, probably China. Is that correct? Is there a way to write a scenario for the new battleset maps like Caribbean, and use the HCDA database, and keep the database and the scenario associated. Or will anybody that wants to run the scenario going to have to swap in the database files like what was described on the HCDA thread? To make people do the manual file swap, it can be done but not very convenient. I have not yet download…

I just downloaded the latest Database pdate HCDB 090128. When I went to the platform editor I could not find the new Ships listed. However when I went to the scenario editor They are there. I would like to know where the Virginia Block lll and the Bunker Hill (CM), and the Arliegh Burke Flight lla (CM) are located in the platform editor. Thank you -Tanthier

As discussed in the other thread, I am toying with the idea of a new, revamped HCDB that would look to fully exploit the new increased entry limits in the DB annexes. This new version of HCDB would depart from the stock scenarios supplied with the sim and from all scenarios created with the DB up to the point of departure. The old version of HCDB (1980-2015) would be maintained in place to preserve compatibility with those older scenarios. Goals for the new HCDB would include: * a focus on the post Cold War period (post 1991) * getting rid of the large amount of duplication in the Installations annex (no longer necessary now that we can rename units an…

Following the various comments about stealth shoot-downs of AEW birds and other planes, I made up a test scenario and modified some platforms. First I found thru the radar logging that the AEW radars actually do need the LDSD flag, without that flag, radar range is reduced by 50% when detecting any aircraft at an altitude lower than the plane. Brad kindly added the flag to the latest HCDB. Last night I restarted Fred Galano's MedWar scenario and the difference in AEW performance was fantastic. Planes could get close to me but now I could reliably detect even Su-24 aircraft before they could fire on me. Thanks Brad!

Brad, Thanks for the newest version of the HCDB. Quick questions and requests (for the next version)... As far as I can tell, the F-35 JSF cannot attack ships. All of its strike loadouts are for land targets (some of them say SURF in the scenario editor but when I play the test scenario they switch over to LAND). Is this correct? Can you add the Spanish S-80 class submarines? (listed on the HazeGray site) Can you add the Mi-8 helicopter (carries troops and can be armed with rockets, etc.)...used by many armed forces around the world see http://www.fas.org/man/dod-101/sys/ac/row/mi-8.htm Since you've added the British CVs, could you add a C…

  19. This discussion branched off from the EW hands on Red flag topic into a full blown DB discussion, so let me copy it over here, the proper place. The bonus is that Enrique's post from 2012 is just few topics away from here, that one is probably the Philosopher's Stone of RCS so far!! (If forum admin could replace this post with posts #17-#31 from the "EW hands on: Red Flag - Russians invited" topic in General that would be even better.) (( Damn, forum doesn't allow me to just quote the other posts, too many quotes ..., attempt to copy them unquoted.)) Here it is: Grumble, on 31 May 2014 - 02:13 AM, said: I just played my first scenarios with the Westpac battle…

For those who may have been wondering, there should be a new version of the HCDB available within the week. I have been doing the summer/holiday thing lately, as most of the Harpoon community does this time of year, but its time to put out another release. Other than some units we will be needing for the CPX, and some specific units I am interested in adding myself, such as the planned British CVF aircraft carrier, I am open to your requests. As usual. Brad
