August 13, 200520 yr Brad, Thanks for the newest version of the HCDB. Quick questions and requests (for the next version)... As far as I can tell, the F-35 JSF cannot attack ships. All of its strike loadouts are for land targets (some of them say SURF in the scenario editor but when I play the test scenario they switch over to LAND). Is this correct? Can you add the Spanish S-80 class submarines? (listed on the HazeGray site) Can you add the Mi-8 helicopter (carries troops and can be armed with rockets, etc.)...used by many armed forces around the world see http://www.fas.org/man/dod-101/sys/ac/row/mi-8.htm Since you've added the British CVs, could you add a Chinese one? (You could probably just use the Russian carrier with Chinese sensors, SAMs, etc.) I'm guessing they'll fly Su-33s. Thanks. Mark

The JDAM as presented in the DB cannot attack ships. (The ability to hit moving targets with GPS/INS guided bombs is still being perfected in real life). That said, the full range of planned weaponry for the JSF is not yet implemented in the HCDB (current loadouts reflect internally carried weapons), but in due course, I will be adding weapons like LGBs and JASSM which will add a degree of anti-ship capability. Can you add the Spanish S-80 class submarines? (listed on the HazeGraysite) Done. See the HCDB-050812 release. Can you add the Mi-8 helicopter (carries troops and can be armed withrockets, etc.)...used by many armed forces around the world see http://www.fas.org/man/dod-101/sys/ac/row/mi-8.htm The Mi-8 Hip helicopter is already in the HCDB. Look for the "Mi-8MT/-17 Hip H" under INTL entries. Since you've added the British CVs, could you add a Chinese one? (Youcould probably just use the Russian carrier with Chinese sensors, SAMs, etc.) I'm guessing they'll fly Su-33s. Thanks. Mark Whether the Chinese will ever build and deploy an aircraft carrier remains in question. Just recently the PRC denied that it was already building a carrier, and gave indications that such a project was on the "backburner" due to cost. But then, only today, I saw a report that China was refurbishing the Varyag (Kuznetsov's unfinished sister ship), repainting her in Chinese naval colours, and performing other unspecified work. So, suffice to say, any Chinese aircraft carrier that went into the HCDB at this point would be completely hypothetical. Its something I'll have to think about. Thanks for your continued interest (and scenarios !), Mark.

Okay, glad to hear, both for the game and for real life, that the JSF will have some ASuW capability--it just seemed odd to that the premier carrier-launched attack aircraft in the world would not be able to attack...ships. As for the S-80 submarine. Are you sure? I've got the scenario editor open and I am not seeing it. Mark
August 14, 200520 yr As for the S-80 submarine. Are you sure? I've got the scenario editor open and I am not seeing it.Mark Yeah, it's there, in the HCDB-050812 release. You're probably looking at the HCDB-050810.

You're probably looking at the HCDB-050810. That is weird. I downloaded and re-installed the database and it still isn't there. The only Spanish submarines are the Mistral, the Galerna, and the Daphne. The other things like the Indian TELs are there, though. Is it listed under some other nation? The text file that came with the zip identifies the database as the 050811 database. Could that mean something? Any chance the wrong .res file went into the .zip file? Any ideas? Thanks. Mark
August 18, 200520 yr Sorry, you're right. I must have forgotten to export after completing that entry. In any event, there should be another release by the weekend, so look for it there. My apologies.
