A curious article about air-to-air radar ranges. The author don't cites sources and it's a little outdated, but the numbers are very coherent: http://www.users.globalnet.co.uk/~dheb/230...les/PG/PGSA.htm http://www.users.globalnet.co.uk/~dheb/2300/Admin/Index3.htm The article is game-related, but interesting.

  2. Hi guys, Just read some interesting tidbits about Chile's modernization of its Type 23 frigates. A NIPmail piece (August 2011) shows that in mid-2011 they contracted with BAE Systems for an update to the Tracker Type 911 surveillance radar and Thales Underwater Systems for the addition of their 2087 towed-array sonar. The radar tweak is nothing really significant, but from an ASW standpoint, the frigates didn't previously have a towed array. This would give them quite a capability update and expand their capability. This might be benefitial, from a scenario design perspective.

  5. WARNING !!! Aircraft entries 10469 Yak-38 and 11592 Yak-38M are rated as with "Propulsion: Jet, CVL cpbl", if that is not changed to "Propulsion: VTOL & Helicopter", they can't be loaded building a scenario on the Kiev-class and derivatives CVH (ship entries 2147, 3325, 2148, 2263), rated correctly as with only a VTOL runway. And if I changed it on my DB and make a scenario, the scenario very probably will crash when playing in a not-modified on that sense DB.

  6. Started by Byron,

I was running a scenario with F-35C and after launching AAMRAMs at a pair of Typhoons I had them reverse course and hit burner to try and get away from the missiles launched at my aircraft. Imagine my horror when they were only doing about 870 knots. I just read the C model can do 1200 knots. Wiki has it at Mach 1.6. Is there something I’m missing here? And I’m using the stock Db Byron

Of interest for databases, at current times (12/2022) only the US and Australian F-35 are equipped with the ALE-70 active towed decoy (and flares, as F-35 apparently has not chaff decoys): https://theaviationist.com/2022/11/29/take-a-look-at-these-photos-of-an-f-35-flying-with-the-ale-70-towed-decoy-door-open/ About no chaff on F-35: https://www.thedrive.com/the-war-zone/27185/f-35s-most-sinister-capability-are-towed-decoys-that-unreel-from-inside-its-stealthy-skin

Played the NACV scenario #15 "Retreat". The Soviet unit CVHG Baku has mount/weapon mismatch. The SA-N-9 launchers has been given SS-N-9 Siren anti-ship missiles. Edit - Also the Badger-J doesn't have any jammers in it's loadout (like how the EA-6B has them). So it becomes useless for anything except providing a surface search radar backup to the Bear D. And the Nimrod ASW plane having sidewinders is making the AI use it for intercepting air units even though it's the ASW loadout. It's going for them even if that air unit is a 12 plane squadron of Flankers. They're probably better off with those removed from the ASW loadout.

Hello all. I would like to start the discussion about how we can together find a way to bring the HCDB2 up to date. I could provide a long list of platforms that need to be created or updated, but that's not a good use of space here right now. And players creating and sharing their own databases "willy nilly" will confuse the process and intimidate newer players. So I think one centrally administrated database remains the only solution. The big question is who would be willing to take this on? Brad, I cannot thank you enough for all the work you have put in over the years, and I understand that you probably won't want to do this. But as military technology advances, this…

Snake Island is located 35 km from the coast, east of the mouth of the Danube River. The island's coordinates are 45°15′N 30°12′E. The island is X-shaped, 690 meters from S-W to N-E by 682 meters from N-W to S-E, covering an area of 0.205 km2 (0.079 sq mi). The highest area is 41 metres (135 ft) above sea level. The island does not have a prominently featured mountain, but rather a low-slope hill. Snake Island is the Island that the Ukrainians defending the is sent the Russian commander who asked them to surrender and got a very well known message in return. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Snake_Island_during_the_2022_Russian_invasion_of_Ukraine View full re…

After 25+ years at last this dawn casually understood the presence and significance of sensor 43410, AS/SS capable but with a range of only 0.1 nm, and present in Western and Eastern air defense systems!!! it must be simply an "Anti Radar Missile - Decoy", very good idea but for years very intriguing for me!

  18. Ethiopia's Petya IIs (F 1616 and F 1617) and Turyas (HTB 112 and HTB 113). The Mols and the Osa IIs are already there. The classes for these vessels are already in the database; you just need to add the ships. (And the moment I thought of this I came up with a scenario idea...Ethiopia vs. Yemen!) View full record

  19. The Northrop Grumman RQ-180 is an American stealth unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) surveillance aircraft intended for contested airspace. As of 2019, there had been no images or statements released, but growing evidence points to the existence of the RQ-180 and its use in regular front-line service. After the retirement of the SR-71 Blackbird in 1999, the US Air Force lacked an intelligence platform capable of penetrating airspace guarded by advanced air defense systems. The RQ-180 was designed to fulfill the mission previously accomplished by the high-speed SR-71. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Northrop_Grumman_RQ-180 https://theaviationgeekclub.com/427th-re…
