  1. This scenario, 'Worst Case Scenario', is for play by BLUE in the Westpac Battleset. This is a "monster scenario", depicting a war between Russia/China/DPRK vs USA/Japan/ROK/Vietnam across multiple fronts in the Western Pacific. It has over 1,700 aircraft, nearly 50 bases and nearly 100 ships in play. It is PC memory intensive, and labour intensive. It will be a challenge to keep control of all of your units, let alone successfully employ them. But thats half the fun, right? You will need the latest version of the HCDB. Please take this scenario for a spin and let me know if you have problems, issues, thoughts, opinions, whatever. The scenario is NOT read…

We've had a couple of situations now where Victory Conditions have a ship/sub subtype that is not even in the scenario. I need someone to take charge of the situation and tinker with a database to see what effect changing the subtypes has on scenarios already created with the database. General suggested procedure: Make a scenario, use both type and subtype in various VCs, note the type/subtypes you used in which VCs. Modify the database by editing the lVictoryType table for VCs in your scenario. Modify the database by editing the lPlatformSubTypes table for VCs in your scenario. Check and see if your VCs are still applicable to the platforms in the sc…

First of 2 bugs found in SE. This one causes the orders menus to become disabled in SE if you clear a course in course editor after issuing attack commands. Repeatable: Always 1. Create a new scenario with a blue base and a red surface or sub group. 2. Activate the group and choose orders > enter course. 3. Enter 1 or 2 legs of the course, then click F1 to bring up the attack menu. 4. Order the group to attack the blue base. 5. Clear the course and close the course order editor, at this point all orders menus will be greyed out and unselectable, even with hot keys. Build 2008.026 Additionally, it seems to disable the menus even if you acce…

Herman has started making entries in the Bug Tracker. In the 'forum options' of each Bug Tracker project you can set what kind of notification you want of new posts. There are a few unfiled bugs there that need verification. We also have two builds since the 2008.025 and no verification of the changes that I've claimed to have made. Please contribute or I'll have to get mean (or something). Yes, Brad and Rene are pretty much excused since they are hard at work with databases and scenarios. Thanks guys, I know testing specific items isn't very fun but it is one of the more important tasks for beta testers now that we have end users doing the normal playing of…

  6. This scenario, 'The Origin of Storms', is for play by BLUE in the EC2003 GIUK Battleset. The original intention of the scenario was to examine in part which new fighter aircraft would be best for Norway, the F-16, F-35 JSF or Eurofighter Typhoon. It subsequently evolved into something more than that. You will need the latest version of the HCDB, which I hope to upload in a few days. When I do, please take this scenario for a spin and let me know if you have problems, issues, thoughts, opinions, whatever. The scenario is NOT ready for release, so please do not distribute it. Updated scenario (following initial testing) has been uploaded here. Origin…

HCE - 2008.027 ============== - Chg:0000 GE Split graphics out of Harpoon32.dll and Winharp32.exe and into individual files within the Graphics directory. So in addition to testing the things in 2008.026 release notes, note if images are missing from dialogs (victory, staff assistant, etc.) in various battlesets. If you are a bit more advanced, try replacing some of the graphics and see what happens. If you are really advanced, look for memory leaks as there are two parts of the changed code that may be leaking memory with each load of one of the graphics.

Tony and I were discussing this issue on IRC and it seems we may have some wiggle room in the code. Basically, we could probably create a rule in the code to deal with increased acoustic signatures when ships receive cumulative damage. The easiest way to implement such a rule would be to effect an increase in BSL values for every increase in value of the DP damage. For example, +2 BSL points for every 10 percent increase in damage. There might also be a different rule for submarines than for ships. This post is intended to provoke discussion on the topic, so please let us know what you think.

Due to recent upgrades to the forum software and components here at HarpGamer, the Bug Tracker referenced just under the HG logo has become useful for defect tracking. I'm wondering what everyone's thoughts are on just having one set of defects listed for HCE, all of them being in that single area. http://harpgamer.com/harpforum/index.php?a...p;showproject=6 Please explain your choice. With this change I think we'll stop making new entries into Mantis as the Bug Tracker is doing all of the key steps of Mantis. Thank you

Hello, was a little busy in RL in the last weeks, but now it looks better. My first installation of HCE2008.021 (in a separate folder) corrupted the current installation of 2007.000 release - nothing worked any longer. One error message was about problems with serail number (think it was error code 300). Then I deinstalled the release version, reinstalled 2008.021 and copied the latest exes in this folder. Two issues so far: 1. no sound ! Remark: It´s on my brandnew, fast Vista PC. 2. Starting the game instantly shoots me in a scen, not the battleset selection window. I´ll go on testing this weekend. Regards, Ralf

By playing the HDSL 1.0 (WestPac) with 2008.023 I discovered the following behavior: for tanks, 5 DP ; for mobile SAM units (ZU-23), 100 DP. So for a tank it is easier to kill an other tank than a SAM unit. I do not know exactly were to address. On one hand this shall be corrected in the DB. On the other hand this shall also be corrected with low priority in the modeling, so that it is similar than in Steel Panther Game. What are your points of views?

And I just wanted to share and show what you can do... Noticed the textured water in BSB maps, nice touch.

HCE - 2008.023 ============== - Chg:0000 GE Fixed a buffer overflow in formation editor if a ship had a long class name. Also allowed the displayed information to be longer/complete. - Chg:0000 GE The Red Victory graphic for EC2003+ will now be the same as the pre-EC2003 one (Kirov over a map of Europe+Asia) instead of a US carrier and US flag... - Chg:0000 GE Sized the sound files to be smaller so that they play as they should.
