  3. Currently, I'm working on a wargaming project with some from friends of mine. It involves a fictional navy using mostly imported weapon systems. In this case, marrying the Rheinmetall MLG 27 to the multifunction Rafael Typhoon. I figure that the Typhoon is the dominant system while the MLG 27 is the weapon subordinant to the system. Do I have this right? Thanks.

In order to initiate and consolidate discussion on developments with regard to North Korea's drive to develop nuclear power/weaponry, I submit this article...here. Unrelated specifically to the article, footage of the UN Security Council meeting and US UN Ambassador John Bolton's comments on the behaviour of the representative of the north Korean government was extremely interesting. In the end, the UN Security Council unaminously voted to impose sanctions, find it here. It will be of interest to see how this develops as the People's Republic of China has already inserted doubt into the effectiveness of these sanctions. Also of note will be how North Korea's a…

Pete asked for photos of my train track so here they are. Obviously I'm not into scenery, it is all about the track laying and wiring for me. Each track segment has its own leads soldered on with insulators between each track segment so in theory someday I can do all manner of sensing and signalling and computer control (keeping in mind I started this before DCC was affordable). Two more loops of track are planned (what you see are the 22" and 18" radius loops, 15" and trolley track are yet to appear). Recently I've been installing Tortoise switch machines (which I errantly called turtle one time when asking for them at the hobby shop).

The folks that run NAVCON have announced their 2014 dates, October 3, 4, 5! Here is their web site: http://www.navcongames.com Here is the previous HG post: http://harpgamer.com/harpforum/index.php?/topic/22045-navcon-2013/ I would love to make this a gathering of us naval war gamers. Digital and Paper Harpooning to be had for sure. Who is interested? What would make you interested if you aren't already? If there is a fair bit of interest we'll start brainstorming how to make this possible and what extra activities to arrange. Maybe a trip to my homeland of Minnesota or an excursion down to Chicago? Thank you for your consideration.

The RAF has two official museums- this is the one I can get to on my Oyster card... Understandably, it focuses on the RAF, but there are some American and German stuff, mostly from the WW1 and WW2 period. Information boards could do with an update in some cases, but there's plenty of aircraft there. Will be pictures uploaded.

I have noted recently that we appear to have some TacOps lovers here on this forum! Which to me is wonderful news! I finally have someone to play against! woo woo! If you would like a PBEM game with me (As currently my lifestyle does not support a full network game) please PM me and I will provide you with my email address in which to send turns. I will warn however that I have never touched the PBEM module of TacOps before, so I would appreciate any setups with offers of a game to be sent to me, I am not confident enough to setup a decent game by myself at this time. So in short, if you want a game just shout me up and we will wage war! Cheers

Now that the US has elected Obama, I think it is time to remind everyone that the annual vote for Pooner and Lifetime Pooner is approaching. Voting will begin December 1st. There may be some trinket awards this year for the winner, any ideas are welcome. A USNI tie or cufflinks cross my mind as potentials... For more details and to view the past winners, visit http://www.harpoonpages.com/poonervote/pooner-Intro.php

Has anyone here tried the mini rules Shipwreck. They are a "highly" abstracted set of modern naval rules.

  13. I'm currently watching a series on Military History about the Perisher Course. You know, the RN submarine command one. Very interesting - it's the first time cameras have been allowed in 30 years. There's been a couple of sub-on-sub battles, including Triumph (the sub they're using) vs. Ula and Triumph vs. Turbulent.

Starting off the thread with SpongeBob is regretable but here goes... The SpongeBob boat was inspired by Kim who used to play on one of the same hockey teams as I did a few years ago and who now and again thrashes me at Blades of Steel. So when I saw the toy on sale at K-Mart I grabbed it and knew what to do, try to make it run. It was a good fight throwing everything together, I used a couple of old servos, unsoldered the motors, stuck them in the drive tubes. When testing flotation and center of mass I had the drive tubes up higher than when I actually glued them on (as tested the props were about half out of water). The unfortunate side effect is that the bo…

I've been pushing cardboard lately. Using the long defunct Game Designers Workshop Assault series. Basic NATO-WP fare. Units are platoons and sections. Hex scale is 250m per hex. Turns are 5min per turn. Mid 80's US, GB, FRG, Dutch, and soviets are all represented. Armor, Infantry, on and off board artillery, transport and attack helicopters, close air support, air defense, combat engineering all represented. The following is a cross post of mine from CSW. OK, The venerable US Team Bravo +, 9th Tank Bn, 91st Recon Company, Alpha Battery 5th Artillery Bn, (1 bty of S-152 "off map"),and some assorted air defense assets (a ZSU-23/4 and SA-9) met again on Maps …
