May 24, 200620 yr Author Just curious... Any idea when the next version of the HCDB database will be released? Thanks.Mark How about today ? Excellent! Thanks! Mark
July 3, 200619 yr Not a request, just reporting a small error I encountered. Chihhang, Taiwan airbase is listed at 27 47'3" Lat by 121 10'5" Long...this is should be 22 47'3" by 121 10'5". Small error, but it puts the base in mainland China instead of on the island of Formosa. Thought you might like a heads up to be able to correct it.
July 4, 200619 yr HCDB-060614 AIM-120C7 AMRAAM has 0.0nm minimum range AIM-120C9 AMRAAM has 2.0nm minimum range ID 31032 name issue "B/B" is this correct? Thanks
July 6, 200619 yr Found another error... Ducks and hides... Duncan Island (Paracels) currently at 16 30" North 103 0" East, should be 16 30" North 112 0" East.
July 6, 200619 yr Found another error... Ducks and hides... Duncan Island (Paracels) currently at 16 30" North 103 0" East, should be 16 30" North 112 0" East. Thanks. Please note, however, that the geographical coordinates used in the PE/SE map do not always match those in real life. This means that occasionally I have to manually adjust the position of the Installation in the SE in order to find the right set of "game" coordinates. If Duncan appears somewhere it shouldn't be after this latest adjustment, I'll have to look at it again. Also, no need to duck and hide. We have a no-burning-at-the-stake policy here.
July 7, 200619 yr I just happened to notice these last 2 becuase the places they appeared in the SE seemed really odd. Like I noted with the Taiwanese base it appeared in mainlnd China, and Duncan ended up being in about the middle of Cambodia. Once I placed in the correct coordinates in the DB myself, they appear where they should, for me at least. I do realize that in some cases the coordinates aren't correct in order to simulate the existance of what would be an off-map base, example Diego Garcia. This is also true becuase no map is completely accurate...flat maps don't match up well with a 'globe' view. Basically I only bother checking the coordinates on the ones that look really odd when I use them in the SE. So long as its in the corect general area, I wouldn't even notice it. (And I'm certainly not going to go through every entry in the PE to check, I'm far to lazy for that...LOL).
July 16, 200619 yr Author A few more requests for the next version of the HCDB... CASA C-212 Aviocar <-- used by Spain, UAE, Thailand, Indonesia, etc., information available at http://www.fas.org/man/dod-101/sys/ac/row/c-212.htm; the description says it can carry 16 paratroops (i.e., a commando squad, etc.) Something (barge, TEL, etc.) that fires the Iranian-made, radar-guided C-802 missile; we have, in the last few days, seen that these can be used against naval vessels Thanks. Mark Dear Brad, A couple of questions... Will a new version of the HCDB be released soon? Just curious. China appears to have or be about to get several new Kilo submarines. Should they be added? Here is a web link... http://www.sinodefence.com/news/2005/news05-12-29.asp (There are already four Chinese Kilos in the database, so adding extra ones isn't critical, but I thought you would like to know.) Should the Chinese Type 22 FAC be added? Here is a web link... http://www.sinodefence.com/navy/littoral/type022.asp Also, is it time to start considering nations from "off stage"...South Africa, Brazil, Venezuela, etc.? Obviously, most of these nations have very small navies, so there really isn't any need to include them, but a few are capable of some limited power projection, assisting in multi-national operations in global trouble spots, etc. Thanks. Mark
August 19, 200619 yr Author A couple of additional requests/questions... Should the Pakistani versions of the Q-5 (known as the A-5) and the J-6 (known as the F-6) be added? As I understand, they were modified to carry the Sidewinder. I think their electronics are different than the Chinese versions, too, but I'm not sure. I think Mynmar and North Korea also fly the A-5, but probably not the same version as Pakistan. Are the loadouts for the Pakistani Mirage III and Mirage 5 the same as the INTL ones in the database? If they are very different, can Pakistani versions be added? Thanks. Mark
August 25, 200619 yr Author Oh, a few more requests... Please add the two new submarines just added to Israel's navy. They were just purchased this month. I couldn't find the names--not sure they have been named yet. Here are two web links... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dolphin_class_submarine http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/sto...ernational/home It sounds like the new submarines will be slightly different from the first three Dolphins. (Perhaps these should be a separate class with nuclear-tipped Harpoon missiles?) And...ooo...it looks like Egypt is planning on adding two new Moray submarines Here is the link... http://www.amiinter.com/samples/egypt/EG2201.html Indonesia looks like it may be purchasing Kilos...the 877E is already in the HCDB, but perhaps you could add a few generic ones to cover navies like Indonesia which may or may not purchase a few more? (Will the new exports have the SAMs, like the 636 Kilos?) And, as always, I'm hoping some "offstage" nations like Brazil, Venezuela, and South Africa, all of which might join some international effort, or possibly send submarines to wreck havoc against a distant enemy, will make an appearance. Thanks. Mark
August 28, 200619 yr A few more requests for the next version of the HCDB... CASA C-212 Aviocar ... Something (barge, TEL, etc.) that fires the Iranian-made, radar-guided C-802 missile ... The C-212 I will look at. Already looking at expanding the list of coastal defence missile systems (like the Chinese/Iranian models).
August 28, 200619 yr Will a new version of the HCDB be released soon? Just curious. With summer holidays, other commitments and such, I don't expect a new release until late September. China appears to have or be about to get several new Kilo submarines. Should they be added? ... (There are already four Chinese Kilos in the database, so adding extra ones isn't critical, but I thought you would like to know.)I'll take a look. Should the Chinese Type 22 FAC be added ? ... I've been watching this development for a while, and collecting info, but there are still several parameters missing. Otherwise I'd have to guess ... Also, is it time to start considering nations from "off stage"...South Africa, Brazil, Venezuela, etc.? As discussed with you on IRC, I have no plans to change the existing policy of not including "off map" nations like those you mentioned. There simply isn't enough room in the HCDB annexes to do justice to both the existing nations and their entries, and any new ones. We can dream about AGSI permitting the continued development of HCCE so that these limitations might be removed, but at this point that seems extremely unlikely. Sorry.

They may merit a new entry, and I'd really like to add a nuclear capability, but it would still be purely conjecture without further information. As you know, the Israelis are extremely tight lipped about their nuclear capabilities. Afaik, they don't even have the bomb. Right ? This might be good fodder for Tony's Fictional DB. Not that I would want to add to Tony's workload.
