July 11, 200718 yr Author You're welcome Tony. Bad news day all around, I got Midway'ed in a bad way. Thankfully I only lost my mini-CVs plus the Hiyo (most likely sink in the next day or so). I'll let Dewayne post up the details on the battle since it's his moment of glory
July 12, 200718 yr Fishermen everywhere would like to say thank you to the most generous Japanese Navy for allowing them the use of sever carriers for use as artificial reefs. At least 3 were created and we are in negotiation for a couple more. We may make the others a diving attraction instead of for fishing. In other news the Holy Cow said she can almost taste that grass now.
July 13, 200718 yr Author Well it happened, CV Hiyo goes down following her first real war engagement against an American CV backed up by the British CVs. None of my air strikes got thru Dewayne's defenses. Ah well, can't make an omlet without breaking afew eggs and what's good having carriers if you don't use em while you can. Not too far into the distant future these things will be competely useless against the American TF wall of flak. Other operations continue including the pounding of Pagan and Ent Islands. I probably can take these back anytime I want now. I haven't seen any real attempts to resupply either bastion. I'll let them wither for awhile longer before scooping up the remains and sending them off to build railroad bridges in SE Asia Sincerely Kelly-san
July 13, 200718 yr Whenever you want to try you go ahead. Sometimes what you dont see is what will get you just ask the Hiyo
July 13, 200718 yr Author All in due time Dewayne, might as well let you starve some more. It's not like they're going to jump into row boats and head back to Wake Island any time soon. Nor can you pick them up cuz the Navy you got in this area is minus afew too many CVs Sincerely Kelly-san
July 15, 200718 yr Author The Allies once again sent a resupply run without proper covering forces and once again paid the price. This time I believe the convoy was heading for Rabaul when I ran it down. Here's the combat report for it: No Japanese losses Allied Ships AK Empire Strength, Bomb hits 1, Torpedo hits 4, on fire, heavy damage AP Empress of Asia AP Dardanus, Bomb hits 4, Torpedo hits 6, on fire, heavy damage AK Empire Bardolph, Bomb hits 1, Torpedo hits 2, on fire, heavy damage AK Empire Lakeland, Bomb hits 1, Torpedo hits 2, on fire, heavy damage AK Katong AK Empire Bell, Bomb hits 1, on fire AK Empire Johnson, Bomb hits 5, on fire, heavy damage AK Empire Peregrine, Torpedo hits 1, on fire AK Indora AK Empire Purcell, Bomb hits 1 AK Nora Moller AK Shinkuang, Torpedo hits 3, on fire, heavy damage AK Empire Pennant, Torpedo hits 3, on fire, heavy damage AK Jalarajan, Bomb hits 1 AK Empire Pibroch AK Empire Torrent, Bomb hits 3, on fire AK Gandara, Torpedo hits 1, on fire AK Empire Voice, Torpedo hits 4, on fire, heavy damage AK Empire Avocet, Bomb hits 2, Torpedo hits 2, on fire, heavy damage AK Empire Adur, Torpedo hits 3, on fire, heavy damage AK Empire Webster AK Empire Lionel, Torpedo hits 2, on fire, heavy damage AK Empire Heywood, Bomb hits 4, on fire, heavy damage AK Empire March, Bomb hits 4, Torpedo hits 2, on fire, heavy damage AK Sudabar, Torpedo hits 2, on fire AK Empire Cato, Torpedo hits 2, on fire, heavy damage AK Empire Ranger, Bomb hits 2, on fire, heavy damage AK Empire Southey, Torpedo hits 2, on fire, heavy damage I believe four of these ships sank outright and the rest are in big trouble. All in a day's work for the Empire. Sincerely Kelly-san
July 17, 200718 yr Author Okay we're now into the beginning of August and so far it's looking rosey for me. I'm blasting away at Pagan and Ent. Islands, slowly the damage is continuing to climb forcing Dewayne to burn supplies that he's not sending in via ships anymore. He did send some to the Bonin Island garrison but I popped it with betties from Tokyo on it's way home, acouple of the transports went down due to torpedo hits. Oh and I'm currently invading Port Moresby. He's got a whopping two units guarding this bastion of freedom: Plan on investing heavily here and making the moving of supplies to Rabaul awhole lot harder. Not much else to report on this day. Sincerely Kelly-san
July 17, 200718 yr Author Well Dewayne sent in his remaining aircraft carriers today against my fleet at Port Moresby. Our CVBGs exchanged airstrikes but no ships sank outright from either fleet but we both suffered dearly. I've lost over 160+ planes to Dewayne's 120+ and afew of my flight decks are pretty messed up but it won't stop the invasion. In the next day or two we'll know the final results, it looks like the Yorktown and 2 of the British CVs are done for but as I said above, no one has sank yet. I guess my move to cut off Rabaul hit a raw nerve I'll update as soon as I get more information from the battlefront. In the meantime, have a wonderful day. Sincerely Kelly-san
July 17, 200718 yr My carriers arrived a day to late to prevent the invasion of Port Moresby but I did hit several transports and then the carriers traded blows. If my airgroups would have played it smart and hit his carriers from the first I believe it would have been onesided in my favor. But I cant control that part. However if I put his carriers out of action for a little while I can live with that as I have new ones building as I type. Back to more planning.
July 18, 200718 yr Author Well it wasn't as bloody as I first thought. CV Illustrious now swims with the fishes and I believe the other two Brit CVs might make it back to port. Most likely the Hornet and Yorktown aren't going to. Not a bad trade off, I've once again smashed up the Allied CV fleet so if he wants to make an invasion he'll need to do it within range of his land based aircraft. Have to wait and see how it all plays out in the next few days. My invasion troops knocked down a fort and will probably (hopefully) take Port Moresby in tomorrow's attack. Now his reinforcement convoys for Rabaul must first pass by there and with the range of the Betties I believe he's going to have some problems (at least I sure hope so). Elsewhere the continued pounding of Ent. and Pagan Islands pass day after day. I'm sure the troops morale is plunging with each bombardment and bombing raids. Have a nice day Sincerely Kelly-san
July 18, 200718 yr Author As I predicted, the Hornet and Yorktown slip beneath the lovely south Pacific ocean and make their final journey to the seabed. Then Port Moresby surrenders to the mighty Japanese empire. Dewayne should have some Essex class CVs coming online with the names like Saratoga 2 and Enterprise 2 (there's going to be alot of 2s out there ). While the situation isn't great for my own CVs, none haven't gone down yet and it looks like they're not going to. Dewayne's vaunted offensive ability is now seriously curbed for awhile. Plus he needs to get supplies forward to his invasion points and that's going to be alittle more complicated. I hadn't planned on this being the big showdown with the Allies, it works out the same way. The ambush with Dewayne was my own stupid planning (or actually, the lackthereof). I like to pound out the turns and I should be slowing them down and eyeing all my options. Alittle better planning would have resulted in better recon of the area and perhaps spotting the inbound Allied CVBG before it even got close. Live and learn, at least for today. Tomorrow is a different story. Dewayne's aggressive nature (he's an ex-marine but forgive him anyways) makes for an exciting game and one with alot of unexpected results. I've never really seen an Allied counter-offensive this early in the game and my own poor planning skills have added to the entertainment. Hopefully I can go the distance. Sincerely Kelly-san Reporting live from the Emperial palace
July 18, 200718 yr I have never considered myself aggressive, I always thought of myself as a defensive guy. Maybe its my old age making me impatient. Good thing I got plenty of supplies at Rabaul, cause it may take a little work to get you out of Port Moresby. If this game mimics real life with ship toughness then those Brit Carriers could outdo a BB for toughness. Well I hope you are ready for the next surprise, you can probably see it already but time will tell if this one will work out as I consider it a gamble. I am coming to visit your Imperial Palace soon, see you there.
July 19, 200718 yr Author Hmm, if this is your version of a defense, not sure I'm interested in seeing an 'actual' offense Please stop by the Home Islands for a visit, I've got afew hundred thousand soldiers waiting around for something to do. Might as well be now instead of later. I took my time with this last turn so hopefully I didn't mess up too much. Just have to wait and see. I think we're both getting better at this game (though wish Dewayne was abit slower ). Have a fun one, Sincerely KellyC
July 20, 200718 yr Author Okay I spotted Dewayne's incoming invasion fleet, he's not kidding with the gambling part. None of these guys are going home, count on it. And here's an update on the state of Allied CVs: Sunk, sunk, and sunk What a nice way to start off the weekend.... Sincerely Kelly-san Emperor at Large
July 20, 200718 yr Kelly, your sinkings report really emphasizes the torpedo... Is it lying or should a person just be making a lot of torpedo bombers and fighters for the carrier attack role?
