  1. Changes 21 September 2015: - Rio Grande/Almirante Quijada air base cleaned-up of warplanes useless in this scenario, for sake of simplicity. - Very minor text changes.
  2. File Name: Operation Paraquet: South Georgia, 20-26 April 1982. Historical Scenario. File Submitter: broncepulido File Submitted: 21 Sep 2015 File Category: South Atlantic Operation Paraquet: South Georgia, 20-26 April 1982. Historical Scenario. A Harpoon Commander's Edition scenario for the South Atlantic Battleset and the HCDA-110606 (Harpoon Commander's Edition Database 'Americas') Platform Database. Image: Ice patrol ship HMS Endurance A 171 (in service 1967-1991), support ship and guard vessel for the British Antarctic Survey. Probably sailing off South Georgia, judging by the surrounding seascape. Photo by Alan Broomhead (ex Royal Navy), uploaded 2006, from Wikipedia Commons. This scenario is designed to be played from the Blue/UK side or from the Red/Argentine side. To avoid spoilers you should play a few times first the Blue side, and only later play the Red side. Operation Paraquet was the first British movement to retake territory from the Argentine occupation in the South Atlantic War of 1982, defeating the limited Argentine Garrison in South Georgia. A small task force with only two Wessex assault helicopters was centred on the RFA Tidespring and other heterogeneous elements, included the ice patrol vessel HMS Endurance. It was a sort of very long range strategic guerrilla operation subsidiary of Operation Corporate, Operation Paraquet was a low intensity operation but with impressive state of art platforms and weapon systems. At last, after a few hours, an assault by SAS, SBS and Royal Marines and a purpose bloodless naval bombardment demonstration the small Argentine garrison surrendered (less the infamous Lieutenant Commander Astiz unit of Buzos Tacticos, who did it the day after). But before that the operation was in great distress, with the loss of both Wessex assault helicopters by very bad weather and bad luck, and after an emergency and improvised ASW action included the use of helicopter-launched air-to-surface missiles. This scenario want to transmit the strange flavour of that distant waters campaign, with lack of air cover, very long distances and very few and sometimes rare elements. Also, the player probably will be surprised by the lack of capabilities of sensors and weapons system (including dumb torpedoes), even counting with modern platforms to carry them as hunter/killer nuclear submarines, compared with the current types usually employed in the Harpoon simulation in more usual scenarios. Last but not least the scenario try to simulate how the events could be developed slightly otherwise. Enrique Mas, 21 September 2015. Click here to download this file

  3. Not a great leak, previsible performances. But yes, from a few years ago I read (with on line translator, usually effective) the weapons systems entry of Wikipedia in Chinese (Traditional), and many times you can learn something new.
  4. I think now all the UK Valiant and Churchill classes should be equipped with Sonar 2001 in liue of Sonar 2020 just to end of their operative life. - Sonar 2020 was introduced in service only in 1985 (see adjunt file obtained years ago in Internet as usual open source googling for Sonar 2016, but now I don't find this concrete or similar content files in Internet from some years ago) and very probably not installed for the few years of service remaining on the boats, the last of both classed deleted in 1994. The adjunt file is 1998, Valiant was deleted in 1994 and Courageous in 1992, and are not mentioned as equipped with Sonar 2020. The Swiftsure-class was reffited with Sonar 2020 (the 2074 variant), but perhaps not the first boat - This point was suggested by some e-mail traffic in the Admiralty Trilogy Group the last weeks, with a SSN Valiant veteran (MM) writing about it. I know the usual Jane's, Conway's and Chant mention Valiant/Churchill as equipped with Sonar 2020, but I think it's clearly not true. Also, don't forget this old link for UK sonar types: http://jproc.ca/rrp/rrp2/oberon_sonar.html In consequence, I did modify the Valiant/Churchill/Switfsure/Trafalgar comments of November 2011, to clear and clarify them for ulterior reference: http://harpgamer.com/harpforum/index.php?/topic/23387-requests-for-the-hcdb-official-database-of-hce/page-28 and adding this note: Type 2016 2020 sonar.doc
  5. I see in loadout 47299 they're two entries with TSM 8062 sonobouys. In my experience in this case the plane will drop two sonobouys, one of each entry/row/line on each stop, I think is better to replace it by a single 140 sonobouys line (or perhaps was the other line for other type of sonobouys?). Also the apparently sonobouys loadout should be 154 (3x18+100, A-Size?), from the side description in the French Wikipedia entry of Atlantique 2. Also, the advanced TSM 8062 Sonobouy (CZ-capable) in loadout 55305 is F-Size (one third the A-Size sonobouy. Named A/3 size in France), and probably Atlantique 2 should carry more than 154 on that loadout: Also mentions 40xIR decoys (ALE-39/40?)
  6. None prioritary, this one (as many because the limitated space in the DB) is for keep record. Just a few minutes ago perousing on the Atlantique 2 ground attack capabilities: - From July 2008 4xGBU-12B/C/D Paveway II (entry 30746) in bomb bay. Operational use in Africa and Syria, at least. - From 2017 with an unespecified pod will be capable to self-design targets. Sources: - French Wikipedia entry https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Breguet_Atlantic#L.E2.80.99Atlantique_2_.28ATL2.29 General and interesting information on French Paveways (the advanced GBU-49, in use in Super Etendard from 2007 and in Mirage 2000D from 2008?, should be the employed by Rafale variants, perhaps replace entry 31070 (BANG 250 LGB) with the more advanced entry 18931 (GBU-49/B (EGBU-12) in loadout 55540): https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paveway http://www.ffaa.net/weapons/paveway/paveway_fr.htm The previous BANG series of LGB, as explayed in the previous link, are US Paveway kits employed in the French dumb bombs stock. No link here, perhaps a temporary situation: http://www.ffaa.net/aircraft/atlantique/atlantique.htm And I observed some months ago in the great netmarine.net site (about French Navy) the very detailed planes, ships, sensors and weapons in service are deleted, perhaps as consequence of some copyright issue. As example, only old planes here: http://www.netmarine.net/aero/index.htm And the complete "Batiments en Service" (ships in service) section is all deleted! FORGET IT ABOUT ADD A PAVEWAY LOADOUT IN ATLANTIQUE 2, I SEE THE PAVEWAYS WERE INCLUYED IN LOADOUT 56186 IN SOME UPDATE! I keep the entry because the links and comments.
  7. Also, it's a great difference between instantaneous turn rate and sustained (or continuous) turn rate, but I think we can't stop to needle it.
  8. Yuan-class submarine (entry 6313) should be equipped with SQG-207 sonar flank array, two convergence zones capable (currently in the DB, entry 47495, in use in the Shang Type 093 SSN variants), perhaps a game-changer in some recent South East Asia scenarios. As consequence of this Carlson's article: http://news.usni.org/2015/08/31/essay-inside-the-design-of-chinas-yuan-class-submarine Refered by Brad and commented here: http://harpgamer.com/harpforum/index.php?/topic/25261-inside-the-design-of-chinas-yuan-class-submarine/&do=findComment&comment=49229
  9. Very interesting, thanks for sharing. As conclusion entry Yuan-class submarine (entry 6313) should be equipped with SQG-207 sonar flank array, two convergence zones capable (currently in the DB, entry 47495, in use in the Shang Type 093 SSN variants), perhaps a game-changer in some recent South East Asia scenarios.

  11. In this case the AI will launched all required planes in sucessive programmed strikes if are enough and time-ready in the base, indifferent to the number of planes of the type shooted-down in the previous strike. As example, your orders are strike each four hours with 8xF-15E. In the base originally you've 16xF-15E, 8 are launched, 2 shoot-down and 6 returned in the first strike. In the second strike four hours later, with 14xF-15E remaining in the base the AI will have not problems launching another 8xF-15E strike, but very bad luck 8xF-15E were shoot-down! In the third strike eight hours later the first strike, with only 6xF-15E remaining in the base, 6xF-15E will be launched by the IA. I don't know as delete or modify the staff notes.
  12. Changed to Windows 10 three weeks ago, everything correct, but the forum apparently don't allow me to use the "quote" capability. This sentence is correct, that's the AI behaviour: "Or do you simply plan another attack for the AI a couple of hours later?" This sentence is correct, the answer is yes: "Does it call off the entire strike or does it launch it with available forces?" And this sentence depends of the scenario designer aims: "I wonder, how you guys plan follow-up strikes? "
  13. Yeah, they work, but one time implemented a staff note, if you want modify or delete or change his apparition, you can't do it, and you must build another time the scenario!
  14. I did updated Windows 7 to Windows 10 a few days ago and any problem detected in the pre-installed Harpoon HUCE/HCE.

  19. Probably five ships, to be delivered from 2022, not clear 76 or 127mm gun, to replace all the six ships of the Oliver Hazard Perry (FFG-7)/Santa Maria (F-80) class frigates(in Spanish): http://abcblogs.abc.es/tierra-mar-aire/public/post/fragatas-f110-vehiculos-18859.asp/ http://abcblogs.abc.es/tierra-mar-aire/public/post/f-110-la-fragata-del-futuro-de-la-armada-espanola-16803.asp/

  23. Almost sure is a Zarist WWI submarine, this: https://ru.wikipedia.org/wiki/%D0%A1%D0%BE%D0%BC_(%D0%BF%D0%BE%D0%B4%D0%B2%D0%BE%D0%B4%D0%BD%D0%B0%D1%8F_%D0%BB%D0%BE%D0%B4%D0%BA%D0%B0)
  24. Not very clear yet the issue: http://www.expressen.se/nyheter/frammande-ubat-hittad-i-svenskt-vatten/ Someone suggested was a WWI British sub, but clearly not (my own research): "All the British WWI sub losses are localized and is not a British WWI sub (Russian troll idea?). And is none of these, but is an interesting story (from Wiki E-1 entry): "E1‍ 's service ended on 3 April 1918 outside Helsinki, 1.5 nautical miles (2.8 km) off Harmaja Light in the Gulf of Finland. She was scuttled by her crew, along with E8, E9, E19, C26, C27, and C35 to avoid seizure by advancing German forces which had landed nearby."
