HCWW blue pilots cowards?
To re-awake this thread. I have been working on a "Pedestal" scenario that opens up with an attack on Malta. Problem is that the AI does not respond to a "guns" attack irrespective of wether bomber are escorted or not, so a 2 plane patrol of Spitfires can happily shot down 10-20 enemy planes without losses.

3) you don't really have to split the formation since the unit window allows for individual units to light off their radars, but is better to break out the bullseye formation and move the carrier to the AAW ring with the radars OFF! Keep the Ticos close by to insure an adequate goalkeeper.

I might be border line cheating but on the basis that aircraft ordinacne is limitless I try to kill every thing I can with planes and keep ship fired weapons for last ditch efforts. (In my first attempt at breakoutUK I found (too late) that my AAW boats were out of SAMs. It got pretty grissly soon after.) I don't know how many long range AGMs I fired off but I'll be stuffed if someone plugs the bottomless pit that is the current magazine. I figure that in this case a little stretching of fair play is OK? Don I would say that it depends. On one hand, airplane ordnance is limitless but on the other the carrier group has an AOR that can ship more weapons to the carrier and before setting off I imagine that the USians would have had replenished their magazines. On the other hand, expensive ordnance like Kh-65s are not going to be a-plenty in the Sicilian, Tunisian or Lybian armories, so you win some, you loose some.

I just got a call from the Armada's HQ, they want some of those guns!! It goes to show the blind faith I have on Brad's DBs.

SPOILERS A PLENTY: I got halfway, not quite South of Malta before the Enterprise sank (91% damage and it kept going at 30 knots!), killing off 60 enemy planes, 4 subs and defeating a bunch of missile attacks, while damaging Fontanarossa to 80% and Tripoli to 35%, while sinking all the swarms of Lybian ships. Before the final apocalypsis, I had only lost the 2 Perrys, toothless targets they have been converted into. I also wonder what kind of ASW weapon if fired by the LCS? it's some kind of death ray that is shot when asked to counter-fire a torpedo that instantly kills any submarine, even if not detected!

Another AI question
No, I really don't think the DB should be altered as it's going to screw up every scenario out there, my question was more on the vein of modding the way installations work so the "vanilla" base could be spiced with the addition of HAS, bunkers and such, without changing the DB
-
Another AI question
Indeed I am, and you are very right. This must be the only game born in the early 90s that still stands in the XXI century and that's thanks to Tony and you guys supporting the databases, but there's no such thing as a satisified wargamer. Can you be more specific? Giving damaged bases the ability to repair themselves is a wish list item (its certainly on my wish list). Not only that, but many bases are killed by the sheer number of ordnance dumped on them, yet reality shows airfileds are usually very tough cookies to kill. In many scenarios is enough to have a squadron of Backfires fire off a volley of AS-4s to kill an airfield and its aircraft forever, yet by the time the Tu-22M came around nearly all airfields sported a goodly number of HAS, which would have protected the aircraft from anything short of a direct hit, plus at least 2 runways, hardened or easily repairable, so the missiles would do some damage to unprotected structures but the airbase would remain operational.
-
Another AI question
Since everyone is screwing Tony, I figured I could too. Why do AI planes head north when their base is destroyed instead of looking for alternate airfields? BTW, is there a way to make a base more resilient?

Water Depth Determination?
If in doubt, you can always use an old merchant captain rul of the thumb, Always leave 3 miles between the ship and the land, and add one extra mile per child in the family, and he had 7!

But not a single Bf-110 yet, so Adlertag will have to wait.

Germane to the discussion: http://yurizhukov.com/files/CWaS_339-359_s...al_aviation.pdf The project 1160 supercarrier could be added to the DB, available from 1975 or so, with the plan to have 3 in service in 1986. Names could be taken up from the Sovietskii Soyuz class: Sovietsky Soyuz ("Soviet Union") Sovietskaya Ukraina ("Soviet Ukraine") Sovietskaya Rossiya ("Soviet Russia") - Sovietskaya Belorussiya ("Soviet Belorussia")

I imagined, but thought the limit was only in installations. Would it be possible to make space by aggregating the different F-16AM? or adding an air-to-air loadout to the Egyptian bird from the existing loadouts? First 8 boats transferred 1963-68: Hel, Gdansk, Gdynia, Kolobrzeg, Szczecin, Elblag, Puck, Ustka Last batch transferred 1971-75: Darlowo, Swinoujscie, Dziwnow, Wladylaslowo, Oksywie Soviet Osas had R numbers, but there were some names, albeit I don't know what variant they were: R-6 Brestskiy Komsomolets, R-24 Tambovskiy Komsomolets, R-55 Komsomolets Tartariy, R-79 Kirovsky Komsomolets, R-87 Amurskiy Komsomolets, R-175 Michurinskiy Komsomolets & R-141 Kronshtadskiy Komsomolets. Numbering would run R-1 to R-175 with some gaps. Bulgarian names were: Burya & Taifun Algeria: 641 to 643 Egypt: 301, 310, 323, 341, 356, 378, 389 & 390 Iraq: Hazirani, Kanun Ath-Thani, Nisan, Tamuz, I, II India: Veer, Vidyut, Vinash, Nipat, Nirbhik, Nirghat Romania: Soimul, Vulturul, Uliul, Acvila, Eretele

As for the Spanish BAM names, they were used in frigates in the 50s. More stuff to add/amend: Aircraft: 1) There's no NATO F-16A of the "contract of the century" time, probably would be better to add to the INTL list copying the Egyptian one but with an air to air loadout added, needed for 1980s Cold War scenarios. 2) J-35 Draken. The only version is the late J-35J with AIM-9L and Skyflash equivalents, but not the earlier F model with SARH and IR AIM-4 Falcons. Also, the Danish J-35XD is missing, mainly a strike platform. http://www.canit.se/~griffon/aviation/text/35draken.htm 3) Finland used the J-35 and the MiG-21bis too. Submarines: The Poles had an 877E project class sub, the Orzel, but for my life, I can't find it anywhere! Surface ships 1) Osa I boats, the INTL list includes only the East German and Yugoslav boats, would it be possible to to add some more boats? 2) T-43 minesweepers, there were some around the WP countries that lasted in the 80s. 3) Danish Peder Skram Class - is missing. http://web.ukonline.co.uk/aj.cashmore/denm...pederskram.html

Replenishment At Sea
Actually, some clever design will aleviate some of the issues. You can restrict bombers to some airbases using runway length, so they won't be able to re-base. You can highlight the importance of supply ships by putting them into the victory conditions. It would be great to have a logistics module, though.

Ejem, I´ll love to help, but this command line thing is chinese for me. Installer works fine though.

refueling problem (once more)
Yeah, well, THAT can be tackled by the designer by cutting back available airframes by the average unavability rate and then some of the rationale for the F/A-18E will be apparent...
-
refueling problem (once more)
I think this is one of those situations that will defy solution, sometimes it will be necessary to fly a mission to nearly empty tanks (and I had the case when refueling after joining a group couldn't be arranged fast enough ) to get to a target so that will require multiple refuelings with tankers cycling in/out of home base to get the strikers to base.

Target Catagories
I like the idea BUT killing an airfield is more than destroying a runway, and hitting the runway may not be enough, because it can be repaired in relatively short time.

Indeed, but since they weren't "born" with all that gear I was wondering wether it would be possible to have also the vanilla Sprucans (that is, the 32 names in each of the variant) Thanks, imagined it was something like that. But not to be deterred, here's another petition: the Douglas EKA-3 "Whale"

Also, the vanilla Sprucans only include a few names, yet they were updated with VLS and other gear from FY83, would it be possible to have all names? Another small request, IIRC the Badger G Mod actual designation was Tu-16K-10-26 (although their designations are a mess) and I am getting lost, can they be amended or they won't fit.
