Future MEDC scenario. Get a CVBG home through a tight spot. Edited to make the first 30 minutes more survivable.

This mission is insane.

It's the first time I've ever had to disable surface and air radar rings because there is too much clutter without it.

Enemy achieved minimum victory in less than an hour.

I had a similar experience with 'BreakoutUK'. The DF-21 anti-ship ballistic missile is one nasty piece of kit. :o

I still have the original versions if you like. ;)

I have edited both of these, gently, to buy you some time in the beginning.I still have the original versions if you like. ;)

Does any one know if there is a half speed time compression setting, I get tired of going from "0" to "1". Also I'm thinking the ctrl alt S setting could be called "satellite view" instead of cheat mode, it would sure be handy.

As a matter of interest (and possible envy) has anyone got out?

I've got about 30 hours game time to run (if I remember right) and I'm only about 50 miles from where I started, I've lost two ships, a few planes and copters and claimed a base, a few SAMs and SSMs, over a hundred planes and about ten ships and three subs, BUT they still keep coming. Do they ever stop?

SPOILERS A PLENTY:

I got halfway, not quite South of Malta before the Enterprise sank (91% damage and it kept going at 30 knots!), killing off 60 enemy planes, 4 subs and defeating a bunch of missile attacks, while damaging Fontanarossa to 80% and Tripoli to 35%, while sinking all the swarms of Lybian ships. Before the final apocalypsis, I had only lost the 2 Perrys, toothless targets they have been converted into.

I also wonder what kind of ASW weapon if fired by the LCS? it's some kind of death ray that is shot when asked to counter-fire a torpedo that instantly kills any submarine, even if not detected!

Nothing particularly special, just the Mk 54 LHT. I expect what you've discovered is that the ASW 'death ray' in this instance has much more to do with the manner of attack (or in this case, defense) than it does with the weapon. Torpedoes fired in 'counter-fire' mode (down the bearing of the incoming torpedo), as well as those dropped by standoff ASW missiles (e.g. ASROC), will almost always find their intended target, regardless of an area of uncertainty. It doesn't mean they always score a hit, and of course, the target must be in range, but they almost invariably get a shot at the engagement 'die roll'.

I took the Oct 22nd version of the scen for a spin yesterday. The Enterprise took a DF-21 hit in the first hour (40%) damage but I proceeded to bust up Red air killing well over 100 planes. However I couldn't break thru the SA-21 SAMs having squandered TLAMs in what I thought would be sufficient attacks to do the job, unfortunately I was wrong and my Hornets got slaughtered trying to finish the deal. I gave up the ghost before even reaching Sicily.

Oh, and about those anti-sub death rays, there is a problem with the torp counter-fire. What you saw were surface guns managing to kill the sub underwater. While some of the mine hunting helos may have super-cavitating projectiles in this case it is a bug. I saw the same thing but did not write up a report on it so that is still an available task for someone to do :)

My Enterprise is still alive, albeit with 58% damage from DF-21 hits, and although I have destroyed Fontanarossa, and hordes of aircraft and ships, I'm still being held back by the SA-21 sites (like Tony).

Heh, I hadn't noticed that behavior. Guess it explains the 'instant' death JMS mentioned earlier.

I tinkered with the scenario a little, giving the poor defenceless CV group some new ships, a UK Type 45, an Iowa BB, and a basic VLS Tico, and a very useful CVN Decoy, as well as putting in another 10 hornets.

Makes the scenario a little easier. Although if the decoy gets sunk it counts as a "total defeat" <_<

Oh, and an Ohio SSGN conversion. I launched all 105 missiles at a single SA-21 (using the ctrl-alt-s chea) and only 12 got through.

Something I found very strange with the cheat on, was that dozens of the Red air groups fly off north up over Italy for some reason, all in formation.

I just got a call from the Armada's HQ, they want some of those guns!!

It goes to show the blind faith I have on Brad's DBs.

Heh. Fortunately I get to escape liability because the "ASW super guns" are a code issue and not a DB issue. :D

I might be border line cheating but on the basis that aircraft ordinacne is limitless I try to kill every thing I can with planes and keep ship fired weapons for last ditch efforts. (In my first attempt at breakoutUK I found (too late) that my AAW boats were out of SAMs. It got pretty grissly soon after.) I don't know how many long range AGMs I fired off but I'll be stuffed if someone plugs the bottomless pit that is the current magazine.

I figure that in this case a little stretching of fair play is OK?

Thought I'd put my oar in. Here's a few tips. There's nothing about enemy OOB, just tactical management stuff. You may have more fun if you DON'T read this, but it'll help if you are having trouble in the beginning. My next project will be different. Live long and prosper, Cobalt Shiva.
