We have two main database authors, CV32 and Divefreak who have led two streams of platform database curating for public consumption. As you can see from this sub-forum's threads, neither of those masters are active presently which severely limits the attractiveness of the game to scenario authors. For many, if they can't put the latest platforms in a scenario, they will turn to a different simulation. Being inclined toward writing code I tend to try to solve with technology, in this case writing a new Platform Editor (PE) and the littany of associated changes to the other game components. Benefits: 1. Make the number of entries in the database ne…

A new version of the HCDB2 or Harpoon Commander's Edition Database 2 (HCDB2-161204) is now available. This particular version, is the inaugural version of this new DB for HCE, which builds upon the 10 years of HCDB success and takes on a new focus to exploit new capabilities within the sim. The file is available from the download section of this website (www.harpgamer.com). Please note that we are now just including the commondb.res file to reduce the size of the download and simplify things. Just rename your current commondb.res file (such as commondb_original.res, for example) and copy the new one into the HCG root directory. Keeping the old file will permit…

The initial release version of the Harpoon Commander's Edition (HCE) 'Cold War' Database (HCCW-101026) is now available. The database file is available from the Downloads section of this website. PLEASE NOTE that I am just including the commondb.res file to reduce the size of the download and simplify things. Just use your stock HCE commondb.res file. Be sure to rename any custom commondb.res file (such as commondb_custom.res, for example). Keeping the old file will permit you to easily switch back and forth between databases. You do not need to import to play the sim using the new HCCW. You will need to import if you want to use it in the Platform Editor. Tak…

With a lot of new drone and autonomous weapons it seems to me (once we get back to modernising DBs in some way) that the line between platform and weapon is becoming difficult to decide. Also there is the decision on whether to create single generic items or create a pletherer of individual. Here's what hot my thinking about it (I know infact it's not a new delema) seen in current events https://defence-blog.com/xdown-develops-stud-drone-for-squad-level-strikes/

Hello all. I would like to start the discussion about how we can together find a way to bring the HCDB2 up to date. I could provide a long list of platforms that need to be created or updated, but that's not a good use of space here right now. And players creating and sharing their own databases "willy nilly" will confuse the process and intimidate newer players. So I think one centrally administrated database remains the only solution. The big question is who would be willing to take this on? Brad, I cannot thank you enough for all the work you have put in over the years, and I understand that you probably won't want to do this. But as military technology advances, this…

Played the NACV scenario #15 "Retreat". The Soviet unit CVHG Baku has mount/weapon mismatch. The SA-N-9 launchers has been given SS-N-9 Siren anti-ship missiles. Edit - Also the Badger-J doesn't have any jammers in it's loadout (like how the EA-6B has them). So it becomes useless for anything except providing a surface search radar backup to the Bear D. And the Nimrod ASW plane having sidewinders is making the AI use it for intercepting air units even though it's the ASW loadout. It's going for them even if that air unit is a 12 plane squadron of Flankers. They're probably better off with those removed from the ASW loadout.

Working on developing my first battleset, which includes modifying the database to include current weapons, aircraft, etc. Pretty confident I am modeling aircraft, ships and subs consistent with the game rules/metrics. Also figured out how to manage mounts and weapons. However, struggling to find a good source for how to assign damage points to weapons, namely missiles. Found historical methods for calculating such as warhead weight x 0.2 = DP. Also found a NPS thesis (circa 2009) "A COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS OF COMMERCIAL OFF-THE SHELF NAVAL SIMULATIONS AND CLASSIC OPERATIONS RESEARCH MODELS" that runs through various parameters and assumptions. Do recognize there are s…

799 THAAD interceptors delivered to 7(US)+2 (UAE) batteries, or some 88 interceptors by battery, without discount of those fired on test or angry (transcendent in view of the great SAM expenditure in Ukraine and the low yearly production level): https://news.usni.org/2024/10/17/report-to-congress-on-the-terminal-high-altitude-area-defense-thaad-system

Hello, I am adding new weapons. Second, I add them to the loadout. But nor the scenario editor nor the game engine recognize the new weapon items. Why? What am I doing wrong?

After 25+ years at last this dawn casually understood the presence and significance of sensor 43410, AS/SS capable but with a range of only 0.1 nm, and present in Western and Eastern air defense systems!!! it must be simply an "Anti Radar Missile - Decoy", very good idea but for years very intriguing for me!
