So.. I got sick of navigating to my HCE install, copying & pasting from my database folder into the main install folder to switch between DBs all the time. I decided to set up JSGME (Jonesoft Generic Mod Enabler) so all I have to do is run the desktop shortcut and click the DB over/back to switch. I know it's only one file to swap out but it's less of a pain for someone as lazy as myself. http://www.users.on.net/~jscones/software/...ucts-jsgme.html I'd like to see if we could get a JSGME compatible database compilation (with all the latest) uploaded so it's just a one-click download followed by extracting it to the HCE/MODS/ folder. I like things to b…

  3. I've noticed that my inner AAW ring units just seem to cruise along at the set speed lately. I thought they were supposed to sprint & drift like the ASW ring. Are my wires crossed? Did this change recently or did I get this mixed up with H3? Can I will them to S&D if I stare real hard at the formation editor?

Hey Guys, I edited some of the wav files for HCE (and added/edited a couple thanks to Stalintc). I didn't want to be blown out of my chair & given a heart attack going from dead silence to a loud boom. I also added a couple little extras into some sounds. It's not a huge makeover but gives a few of the sounds a bit more flavor. Submitted the zip in the mod section. http://harpgamer.com/harpforum/index.php?a...mp;showfile=421

Changes include slightly lowering the .wav decibals for some of the sounds that could give you a heart attack. Also, some of the sound's tones were lowered a bit for less screaching and more BOOM. The missile explosions now have a very short rocket sound before the new, less startling, explosion that has turned out very well. Lastly, I added a couple sounds from one of Stalintc's excellent mods and did some editing on the missile launch sound. Tha…

  6. I'm wondering what battlesets have the newer HCE features that are based 1980-1990 or so. I believe I saw the included HCDA/S/? or whichever those 3 or 4 are have active jamming working but didn't know if they have the full set of new goodies. Am I correct? Also.. which other battlesets do/don't have the new features? I've noticed the DB80to95 but haven't seen much in the way of created scenarios for it. Could someone point me in the right direction? I've not dove into scenario creation yet (I will sometime), but playing your own scenarios takes a bit of the surprise out of it, doesn't it?

  7. I don't know what's been wrong, lately. I wiped my Windows install about a month & a half ago. After reinstalling HCE, some enemy groups do not show in the group window. It did that with the 2008.44 version, I reinstalled/repatched HCE and it was still doing it. I updated to v 2009.035 and still no help. All using 090427 DB. It's done it on a couple different battlesets. I have no idea what's going on but I don't recall it doing this a few months ago. My most recent example is the Serhiy scenario I'm going to upload the save for. It's user-created but that hasn't mattered as the stock ones are doing it, too. Anyway, there are a lot of ground &a…

Ok. I got the Harpoon Signature Edition (HSE) converted from 5.25 floppy to 3.5 (CD) and it installed perfectly and runs great (15,000 frameskip) in DOSBox! I also have original boxed Designer Series I (HDSI) and II (HDSII) on 3.5 in floppy and they installed perfectly over the HSE. Haven't had time to tinker yet, but the HSE is v1.31se and the HDSII updates to v1.32a and also installs a "harp386.exe" that runs v1.386a. Not for sure the difference between v1.31se and v1.386a, but I did boot up both and the graphics on the v1.386a are sharper. I think it esentially is an ega addition with little changes (if any) to game mechanics. Another neat thing, the HDSII instal…

How does the GE/A.I handle ASM/SSM attacks as it pertains to SAM's? Using this example: Platform A: Center of formation; SAM's with a 50nm range Platform B: 25nm from Platform A; SAM's with 35nm range Platform C: 40nm from Platform A, 15nm from Platform B; SAM's with 25nm range (assume ships are positioned in a straight line from Platform A to C) A missile is inbound and is headed for C (assume it's origin is Point D which is 100nm from C on the same bearing) Which ship will launch to intercept?

While I was trying to break the SAM ROF this morning I came across something else of interest, so I experimented with it a bit too. The test scenario I was using for the SAM ROF consisted of AS-4 Kitchens being fired at a naval surface target. I couldn't get my CIWS/guns to fire at them during point defense. Initial database configuration: Phalanx - max alt = low and min alt = vlow AS-4 - max alt = vhigh and min alt = vhigh Altered database configuration: Changed Phalanx max alt from low to vhigh and now they do engage in point defense. Changed AS-4 to low and vlow, but Phalanx still will not engage. I would take from this that the max altitud…

  11. Started by miller7219,

I understand ROF for gun mounts is per minute, but please explain what ROF = for missile mounts. For example a Mk41 VLS has ROF of 30 per tactical turn (30 seconds) per Harpoon Data Annex. What value would you put in the database for ROF for the Mk41 mount? Example Mk26 has ROF of 6 missiles per tactical turn (30 seconds) per Harpoon Data Annex. What value would you put in the database for ROF for the Mk26? From testing it appears the ROF is irrelevant for non-SAM mounts. SSM missile or torpedo mounts for example fire as many round as allocated in the attack menu all at the same time. I'm more concerned about getting a good understanding of how SAM ROF works and how …

Here's something those of you with naval service experience or engineering knowledge might be able to help out with: How long could a warship sustain flank speed? By this I mean pedal to the metal, all out pushing the ship at its maximum capable speed. Now I realize that this varies among propulsion types (steam, diesel, gas, nuclear, etc), ship types, even among individual ships, and of course, flank speed is limited by fuel (something akin to afterburner on a fighter jet), but I'm interested in your educated guesstimate. But if you can be more specific, then by all means please go ahead. If you're really naval engineering tech savvy, then how long do you…

  18. Started by JMS,

Since I rejoined the community with HCE I have noted that AAMs appear to be quite lethal, which wouldn't necessarily be bad, but then I found that SARH missiles will keep on guiding despite having the launching aircraft turning away and I am bit baffled.... For example, playing the "Backyard" scenario in the WestPac battleset, I found that Su-27s and F-18s could fire AA-10s/AIM-7s nearly simultaneously, turn away and lit 'burners, and there's a good chance that the Sparrows will shot down the Sukhois as they will keep on guiding. I thought, or at least I understood from the manual, that this wouldn't be the case.
