I've been pushing cardboard lately. Using the long defunct Game Designers Workshop Assault series. Basic NATO-WP fare. Units are platoons and sections. Hex scale is 250m per hex. Turns are 5min per turn. Mid 80's US, GB, FRG, Dutch, and soviets are all represented. Armor, Infantry, on and off board artillery, transport and attack helicopters, close air support, air defense, combat engineering all represented. The following is a cross post of mine from CSW. OK, The venerable US Team Bravo +, 9th Tank Bn, 91st Recon Company, Alpha Battery 5th Artillery Bn, (1 bty of S-152 "off map"),and some assorted air defense assets (a ZSU-23/4 and SA-9) met again on Maps …

  4. I'm currently watching a series on Military History about the Perisher Course. You know, the RN submarine command one. Very interesting - it's the first time cameras have been allowed in 30 years. There's been a couple of sub-on-sub battles, including Triumph (the sub they're using) vs. Ula and Triumph vs. Turbulent.

I tried not to post, I really did but now it is too late! My sister and her husband got me the Naval Institute Combat Fleets 15th Edition tome and it is truly a work of art. The best present was certainly spending time with family (and extra time with my 93 year old grandfather). But for pure shock and awe it was the book. It sat on my lap wrapped for at least a half an hour while the nephews and grandpa tore through presents before it dawned on me. I think my sister caught the look on my face as I finally put 2 and 2 together (very heavy present, solid, yet not a box, oh my gosh, it can't be!). It was a very naval Christmas for me, Combat Fleets, Red Storm …

Thank you veterans for your service. The very human aspect of war detests me, the individual stories of comradeship and overcoming adversity inspire. Oh, and the weapons of war are just amazing! Carry on Harpooners

I certainly enjoyed playing Defcon a few times and enjoyed watching it even more. Now they add VR, sounds like a cult winner to me! https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2017/02/15/defcon-vr-is-a-free-virtual-war-room/

Just don't see this very often in our small city. Apparently it was picked up at a Boeing plant in Arizona and was headed to Boeing in Seattle for testing before making a pit stop here in Redding CA. What does Boeing have to do with the B1B? Neat anyway.
