File Name: SimPlot 2 File Submitter: kmart494 File Submitted: 26 Dec 2017 File Category: Application/Tools/Mods/Docs SimPlot 2 (short for simple plotter) provides Harpoon4 paper rules players an opportunity to accurately track the location of units in a graphical environment. Specially made background maps can be used to create a sense of location for the battle. Additional unit graphics can be utilized to enhance game play such as range circles, ESM/Sonar bearing lines, limited unit perception and unit text tags. Multi-player games are possible using a referee to control the movement of units, and to determine the outcome of detection and combat. Pla…

Tensions between the United Kingdom and France have crept close to breaking point (again?). The French destroyer Aconit has entered waters it has been told to keep out of. The UKs response is to send 2 Sea Harriers to ward her off. The two Sea Harriers approach at 450kts and very low altitude. Initial range is 16.0nm. The Sea Harriers pick up the Destroyer and continue to close. The Destroyer detects the 2 aircraft at a range of 13.5nm. At 9.5nm the Aconit begins trying to shoot down the incoming Sea Harriers with 100mm guns but is unsuccessful. The Sea Harriers continue to pass their low altitude die rolls (not crash) and fire their Paveways when at a range of…

I checked through out the paper rules post and did not find what i was looking for. If I missed it I am sorry for the double post. Just got my issue of harpoon 4 on friday (high tide edition) from clash of arms. Let me first say that I am more then impressed with all of the content. However, my only issue is that no quickstart rules/ senarios were included (like in the normal H4 box set). I didn't consider this a problem until i tried reading the complete rules. Im wondering if any one here has the quickstarts rules and if they could email me with them. Thanks, Jonathan

Using the new Sitrep 31 air rules. Regarding Initial conditions of a Dogfight: If a F-16a with a maneuver rating of 4.0 is dogfighting a Mig-23MF with a maneuver rating of 3.0, does the F-16 get to fire first, even though the Mig-23 has a speed advantage? In my test scenario: A F-16a had to maneuver to avoid a SARH missile attack from the Mig-23MF, thus reducing its speed to 350 knots. The Mig 23 was zipping along at 700 knots before the range closed to Dogfight range. Should I have added +2 to the Mig-23s maneuver rating due to speed when the dogfight began? Now, the Mig has a maneuver rating of 5.0 and would get to go first. This would have made a huge difference i…

It has been a while since I worked on an update due to life and diversions, but I have a new inspiration so a new update will be out in a few weeks at most. The big inspiration moving this forward is Larry Bond's acceptance of my offer to use SimPlot to referee a scenario at the Origins Game Fair in June. Each of the sides (USSR and NATO) will have a paper planning map made from my new SimPlot GIUK map (not yet uploaded to Harpgamer). Larry and I will then take orders from the players and run the turns in SimPlot. Players will update their paper maps accordingly and make decisions. This is a "hybrid" game idea, which blends a computer with a live convention setti…

Hello all! It's nice to finally come across some fellow people who have an interest in the Harpoon System. I've been an owner of the rules for a couple of years and although I've thumbed through them, I've never actually had an opportunity to dive right in (pun intended). But reading all of these AARs and such, I'm really able to now visualize how some of the rules actually interact with each other and I'm excited to really get myself involved. I do have a few questions though, pertaining to the Unification Project I've heard mentioned a few times. Is there eventually going to be one solid volume of Data Annexes detailing "The Navies of the World" from 1900 to Present…

They had great articles in them, does anyone know where similar articles might be on-line? http://www.payhost.net/aviation/acatalog/W...ues_0___9_.html

4.4.2.3 Towed Array: "All towed arrays are either classified as Low Speed or High Speed arrays. This is the speed it can be towed without reducing its detection range because of flow noise." Is low or high speed defined anywhere - I'm guestimating that it is the 0-50% and 51-100% of the platforms speed per their data sheet?

Hey everyone, just finishing off my collection of Naval Sitrep pdf e-zines. I was wondering if anyone knew where i could get hold of editions 1 to 14? They used to be on another site which closed and was never transferred. Wargames Vault doesn't have them. If anyone could tell me you'd make my year!

Hi guys, my harpoon paper days are starting again, as illustrated by my purchasing saga. Going out to buy the 2003 review just after posting this. Last time I played was with H1 or H2 rules, back in the mid-80s, only played computer variants since then. No ground back then. So I've heard and read about ground rules existing for H4(.1), but not being up to date on what is what and where it is (much less its cost, hahaha), I'm asking for your help, dear pooners. Interested in "official" ground combat rules, be it in commercial or free, paper or online, supplements, as well as community mods, hopefully freely available. Or barring tailor made systems for H4.1, g…

Harpoon II arrived today spectacularly packed. I almost felt bad removing it from the acetate envelopes complete with stiff cardstock to keep things from bending. But was I ever glad I broke the seal! Harpoon II looks a lot like Harpoon 3 except I like the organization of Harpoon II better and its greater number of diagrams really impress me. There is a diagram showing a multi-game-turn ship turn instead of having to guess and divine if I move first, turn first, jump around three times,... As for the organization, the rules are categorized by their order in the turn whch I find very helpful. Perhaps more comments once I really have a good read of the ru…

  15. I am stepping through an engagement between an AH-1W vs a ZSU-23-4. The AH-1W, with a 2nd Generation APR-39A(V)1 RWR and AGM-122A SIDEARM at low altitude can detect the radiating ZSU-23-4's Gun Dish Radar at 69nm (ZSU is on terrain <100 feet high)and engage it with the SIDEARM after conducting a pop-up to Medium Altitude undetected between 4nm (Gun dish detection of a Small Target) and 6nm (max range of the AGM-122A). The SIDEARM inflicts 1DP. How would this attack be resolved? 6.3.4.2 Guided Weapons appears to be where I should find the instructions, but it only addresses Command Guided and Semi Active Radar (SARH) Weapons, Semiactive Laser Homing (SALH) Wea…

Now that the F-14's have been retired, how has this effected the typical make up of the carrier air wing? The H4.1 data annex lists examples of air wings circa 1996. Is it as simple as doubling the F/A-18? If so, what is the breakdown between the F/A-18C/D's and the F/A-18E/F's? Thanks, Pete

  18. Hi, boys, I have a question for you. Apart from the fact that I am referring to Harpoon 3 edition by GDW, Date Annex 1991, whose rules may be a little different from those of Harpoon 4, I would like to ask you a couple of explanations on aspects that I have not fully understood. 1) - How do you solve an attack with unguided bombs. I read in the manual that "to attack with aircraft cannon, unguided rockets and bombs, an aircraft must fly directly over the target at low altitude". And this is clear. "Unguided bombs may be dropped to medium altitude, subject to a modifier equal to the target's speed in knots (kts = eg 27 - 27%) or a minimum of -10%." So, first, if the p…
