I'm doing helo loadouts and I can't figure out how much various sonobuoys weigh. Any help is appreciated.

Can anyone comment on South Atlantic War - the Falklands module? Is it any good? Anyone playing it?

OK, i've placed a soviet Akula class submarine in front of a USA "fleet". I've given the fleet 4 layers if you like, and i'm ignoring air support at this stage. Can the Akula penetrate the layers and get a shot off at the Nimitz??? 1st layer is the picket, where our Akula has to try and stealth past a Perry class warship. She is a small and quiet ship but will be running at speed ahead of our fleet. While the Perry can carry a Sea Hawk helecopter, it wont be in this encounter. 2nd layer is Arleigh Burke, i believed the AB is a good ASW type of ship. But looking at her sonar stats she is not much different to the Perry class. Oh well. 3rd layer is Bunke…

Designed my own scenario based on a Sea of Dragons scenario between the Singapore Navy and Indonesian pirates. 2x Singapore Sea Wolf PGs vs a Fatahillah class FFL and a PB-57 and 2x pirate skiffs as per the excellent 2009 naval review. I used the many rules found here in playing pirate scenarios and adopted them for the Sea of Dragons scenario. The scenario started as the Sea Wolves heading southeast at 20kn. the civilian tanker was stopped with 2x pirate skiffs alongside. Got a few AARs going up now, and discussion. Any thoughts on tactics though? I've thrown a few planes into dog fights etc, rolled the dice, played out scenarios. But no real thought to tactics. Any ideas how tactics could come into play for any scenario?

Ok, I'm transitioning to submarines for a while in order to account for some ASW operations. To that end I am using the first ASW Scenario in the quick start book and the subject matter sub is an upgraded German Type 206A SS. First question is regarding the Ship Turning Table which includes an entry of a "surfaced submarine" = standard rudder 400 yards 4kts decrease and hard rudder 300 yards and 6kts decrease. Where is the turning of submerged submarines discussed, did not see it in the rules. Second question is in regards to the DM2A3 533mm Torpedo. One of the purposes of this scenario was to have a submarine travelling at something faster than "crawl" speed, to see if it would be detected or not. I chose a T56 ASW ship because being a ASW type, i thought it might have a better chance to detect the sub. To make the submarine work (have to speed up) i placed it 20.0nm behind the T56 and had it chase down and get a visual (not just a sonar detection). Somewhere in the North Atlantic. Sea state 4. A sub v sub scenario from the High Tide boxed set. This is my second AAR based on sub verse sub. I know a bit more about the rules so more stuff might come into play. I’m also plotting movement on graph paper for the first time, rather than just having two subs approach each other and measuring closing distance. LA class submarine is up against an Oscar sub and tensions are high with sea state 4, so neither has deployed their towed array sonar in case they need to suddenly manoeuvre. One of my favourite games used to be 2nd Fleet, due to its focus on the cold war / greenland-UK-iceland gap. And one of my favouite units froms that game was the "Ticonderoga". With that as my starting point, i set out to find an approximate Soviet equivalent to compare it too. I quickly found the Project 1164 Atlant. I'd never heard of it. The Atlant is same type of ship (CG) and it even has the same build year (1983). On paper, it looks to be the perfect match of NATA v Soviet guided missile cruisers. Playing Dave's wonderful scenario: Send in the Marines from Naval Review 2003. Planning to do a surgical strike with Tomahawk LACM. Looking at the annexes at the Tomahawk cruise missiles: My question is: What is TERCOM? I know the tomahawk uses terrain mapping for guidance, but thats it. How is this played in H4? Also, the warhead strength: what does it mean 4x14 for damage? It says 4 attacks. Does this mean 4 attacks at 14 dp strength? or 1 attack at 56 points rolled 4 times? I am guessing that this only involves attacking land targets rolling on the critical hit table. thanks.

First light. Light rain falling. An Argentinean DDG (Destroyer?) is sitting 3.0nm off the coast of the falklands. A Tornado (don't ask, just accept its there) is coming in at NOE (90m high) from over the land to attack her. The Tornado plans to approach to within 5.0nm and make a lob-toss attack using 2 Mk82 general purpose dumb bombs. My first task was to determine detection ranges for each. This ended up being interesting. The Tornado is flying at NOE (90m) and can detect the Hercules DDG (small target) at 16.0nm. However due to 4.2.5.2 land mass effects the range is halved to 8.0nm. 4.2.5.4 rain effects shows that light rain reduces Pd by 10% and a 25% …

4.4.2.3 Towed Array: "All towed arrays are either classified as Low Speed or High Speed arrays. This is the speed it can be towed without reducing its detection range because of flow noise." Is low or high speed defined anywhere - I'm guestimating that it is the 0-50% and 51-100% of the platforms speed per their data sheet?
