Yes, fighting the Soviets was as fighting aliens, because the very unknown factors of the enemy (sometimes the Soviets were ignorant of his own forces because his own secretist occult his forces to his own combatants). Handy old-school website there, thanks Enrique! BB proverb, it may say battleship, it may say Iowa, but if it doesn't say Battleship Iowa it is probably just endless boring corn fields.
