So, been reading, thinking about what I'll run first scenario wise, and mostly thinking how I'm going to do it so I can play on my computer, against human opponents, either pbem or live, with no human referee (albeit it should be possible to have one) First try will be a VASSAL module, as it already has live capabilities versus cyberboard that only does pbem (afaik). Now, it wouldn't include the rules, or automatic resolution of combat : the only automated part would be a fog of war to replace having a human referee plot everyone's moves. So as not to step on Uncle Harpoon's toes, et al. e.g you input your detection dice roll, the "ref" checks if you have anythi…

Hi guys, my harpoon paper days are starting again, as illustrated by my purchasing saga. Going out to buy the 2003 review just after posting this. Last time I played was with H1 or H2 rules, back in the mid-80s, only played computer variants since then. No ground back then. So I've heard and read about ground rules existing for H4(.1), but not being up to date on what is what and where it is (much less its cost, hahaha), I'm asking for your help, dear pooners. Interested in "official" ground combat rules, be it in commercial or free, paper or online, supplements, as well as community mods, hopefully freely available. Or barring tailor made systems for H4.1, g…

So, that's the story : bought the H4 boxed set, without realizing it was 4 not 4.1 from a local hobby shop. Paid a bit too much for it (66 Can + 15% taxes, around 75 iirc, they initialled wanted 80 Can, before taxes) to boot. Haven't opened it ( I had doubts after the time it took me to walk home, remembering about 4.1, less than 15 mins ) as I think they stamped it as a final sale due to the rebate, but that's irrelevant : no final sales in Quebec, any retail transaction is protected by a 30 day return in law So I want your input on this : return and order from CoA the high tide, or keep it, make scans of the quickstart rules in exchange for the appendix/compen…

I checked through out the paper rules post and did not find what i was looking for. If I missed it I am sorry for the double post. Just got my issue of harpoon 4 on friday (high tide edition) from clash of arms. Let me first say that I am more then impressed with all of the content. However, my only issue is that no quickstart rules/ senarios were included (like in the normal H4 box set). I didn't consider this a problem until i tried reading the complete rules. Im wondering if any one here has the quickstarts rules and if they could email me with them. Thanks, Jonathan

During and following the "French Connection" I have been reading up on the rules, and individual ideas in the yahoo admiralty trilogy group, for more insight into such air-to-ground attacks. 6.3.5 Air Attacks on Land Targets opens with specifically "Air attacks against ground targets are resolved in the same way as those against ships." As pointed out in some of the yahoo AT threads, this seems to lend itself to come up with a table for attacks on such targets, weighting the chance of hits based on the number and size of target found on the General Attack Table. Mention of the General Attack Table seems to indicate an ability to go ahead and target point target…

Are there any examples of GCI radar sets inthe H4.1/HT data annex? After determining the performance of the respective French and Yemeni AI radars and seeing how what little performance that they have is halved one altitude level below, and two levels above, I'm thinking that the Yemeni's may have needed directions to get to the ballpark.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/F-8_Crusader “On 7 May 1977, two Crusaders went separately on patrol against supposedly French Air Force (4/11 Jura squadron) F-100 Super Sabres stationed at Djibouti. The leader intercepted two fighters and engaged a dogfight (supposed to be a training exercise) but quickly called his wingman for help as he had actually engaged two Yemeni MiG-21 Fishbeds. The two French fighters switched their master armament to "on" but, ultimately, everyone returned to their bases. This was the only combat interception by French Crusaders.” What if…? At Medium Altitude, the chance encounter ocurs. I pixie dusted the French pilots as Experienced wh…

I checked with CV32 about the appropriateness of posting this on these boards, and he said to go ahead. Hi folks. I've had my Harpoon stuff for a long time. I've had a blast meeting Larry Bond, and many others over the years at conventions. But the collection has sat on the shelf for 10 years, so it's time for it to find a better home. Preferably one where the new owners will take it out and show it some light (even submarines have to surface once in a while). My entire collection of rules is up on eBay now. Here's a list of items that you can check out if you're so inclined. I'm sorry to say I found THIS on-line community so late. The lot of "16 SITREPS, Issue…

Do you think it is normal that CZ are not dependent on passive range? This means that a good sonar (BQG-5 WAA / LF-MF / 6 nm Passive Range) has the same number of CZ a bad sonar (AQS-22 / LF-MF / 1.5 nm Passive Range).

This is a post on HCE regarding the FREMM ASM towed sonar Captas and Sonar 2087... "I was lacking H4.1 data on both these sonars when they were created in the HCDB. If anyone has H4.1 data or suggested provisional data, I'd be glad to receive it." Does anyone have info on these? Thanks.

With the news that India finally has firm (well, maybe) plans to induct the Tejas Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) into service, I'm wondering if anyone has worked up some H4 specs. Peter? Craig?

Does each missile of a "raid" need to be detected in order for it to be engaged? In this engagement I played it yes. 4x very small signature, sea skimming RGM-84D's fired at a detected Sovremenny Type 956EM Destroyer at a range of 60nm. Initially two were detected, by the Mineral-ME 3D radar, at a range of 9.0nm and engaged by both Yozh mounts in the 2nd fire phase of an Engagement Turn. I halved the ROF to 3 missiles each mount. I believe this to be wrong but wanted to give the Sovremennyy a fighters chance. In the very next Movement Phase the 6x Grizzlies engage and destroy the 2 detected Harpoons. Also 14 more, 7+7, Grizzlies launch from the Sovremenny…
