September 20, 200817 yr So, that's the story : bought the H4 boxed set, without realizing it was 4 not 4.1 from a local hobby shop. Paid a bit too much for it (66 Can + 15% taxes, around 75 iirc, they initialled wanted 80 Can, before taxes) to boot. Haven't opened it ( I had doubts after the time it took me to walk home, remembering about 4.1, less than 15 mins ) as I think they stamped it as a final sale due to the rebate, but that's irrelevant : no final sales in Quebec, any retail transaction is protected by a 30 day return in law So I want your input on this : return and order from CoA the high tide, or keep it, make scans of the quickstart rules in exchange for the appendix/compendium of 4.1 changes mentioned in the poll... Thanks in advance for your views, Cheers ! NOW IRRELEVANT !!! BUT LESSON FOR PROSPECTIVE BUYERS : 4.1 CAN HIDE IN A 4.0 BOX !!!!
September 20, 200817 yr Are you sure you've actually got 4 rather than 4.1? Because my copy of 4.1 from CoA had the 4.1 rules in the 4.0 box.
September 21, 200817 yr Author Are you sure you've actually got 4 rather than 4.1? Because my copy of 4.1 from CoA had the 4.1 rules in the 4.0 box. Man, oh man, I can't thank you enough !!! Just slit it open, and behold, 4.1 rulebook + annexes, + errata sheet from 2004 !!! I'm in business, heeeehaaaaaw !!! As a sidenote, I was fooled by the "ancient" looking plastic film around the box : brownish deposits in the corners and nooks... I guess they allowed smoking during their game club nights at the shop, hence the ancient look, hehe. God, I would have felt stupid... Well, guess I'll go grab a copy of the 2003 review there too (cheaper than at CoA) Cheers !
September 22, 200817 yr HNR2003 is chock full of good stuff. Highly recommended for what my opinion is worth.
September 22, 200817 yr Author HNR2003 is chock full of good stuff. Highly recommended for what my opinion is worth. For 21 Can, tax included, I'm very happy with my purchase, except for being a bit disappointed that the listed counters are in fact printed on the supplement's soft cover, and not hard board sheets... Minor, as I'll mostly play with just paper/computer aids, and not cardboard counters, hehe Now, if I could find a cheap copy of South Atlantic War, 2nd ed

Highly recommended for what my opinion is worth.except for being a bit disappointed that the listed counters are in fact printed on the supplement's soft cover, and not hard board sheets... Yeah me too, especially when my offspring decided to make her first unauthorizxed use of a pen on the back page of HNR2003, right over the counters in question, however also like you, a rarely play using counters. Most of my paper harpoon is "on paper", graph paper. Sometimes I get basement time and set up the mini's.
September 23, 200817 yr I might get Harpoon 4.1 in the near future. What should I get? I'd go for High Tide Complete Set http://www.clashofarms.com/high-tide.html if you are starting from scratch. Don't forget a subscription to the Naval Sitrep, good stuff in there every time.

September 24, 200817 yr How much is the Sitrep subscription? Of course, Sterling:Dollar exchange rate isn't as good for me as it once was... imho the most difficult page to find on the whole CoA site... http://www.clashofarms.com/sitrep.html What I like from Sitrep: 1. Rule clarifications and first publishing point of new rules (such as the newish dogfight procedures) 2. Scenarios in print form including overview maps (though not maps you would lay the minis out on) 3. Warm fuzzy feeling reading Bond and the others enthuse about the game 4. Platform information that hasn't made it into the annexes yet
September 24, 200817 yr Author Question : in High Tide, you get the full 4.1 ruleset, as in the rulebook and the 4.1 data annexes ? What is the added content, apart from the big scenario book ? It's one think I don't like about their product descriptions for the Harpoon line, they are not clear, one could be paranoid and almost say intentionally so (to produce sales), hehe, which I won't So you know you get the 4.1 rulebook, but what is the data annexes included is not clear : a vanilla 4.1 or is it a special high tide 4.1 plus annexes book ? Would love to hear more. Thanks in advance
October 8, 200817 yr Author Complete re-edit, I don't usually do that High Tide's Data Annex is a comprehensive listing of platforms, weapons and sensors for naval, air, and some land units. Okay, the description seems to imply it's a different data annex book, seeing as there is some land units in there. So anyone has both 4.1 and HT care to sum up how alike or different the data annexes are ? Cheers, thx
October 9, 200817 yr So anyone has both 4.1 and HT care to sum up how alike or different the data annexes are ? Cheers, thx A difficult thing to summarize, but essentially the High Tide annexes are more expansive (i.e. cover more platforms), and like all Harpoon 4 data annexes, look to update and improve upon the available information.
