Database Design & Discussion

A forum for discussion of database design for Harpoon 3.

Gunny, Would it be possible to provide more information updates about progress on the HUD-4? Specifically, would it be possible to start going through the various platforms posted in the request forum and... * If the platform has been added to the database, move the request (or have one of the moderators move it) to the archive so it is no longer cluttering up the request forum--although as the person who did most of the cluttering, I really should not be complaining about this. * If the platform has been accepted, but not added yet, could you let us know what the status is? Is it likely to be added in the next month? Next year? How high is it on the "to…

  2. I'm not sure if this is a problem with the database or something I am doing wrong, but I've been testing the AIM-7 missiles (as carried by various versions of the F-4) and I am having a lot of trouble. I cannot get either the AIM-7C or the AIM-7E to fire at ANYTHING. I've tried them against T-34 Mentors AND against 737s, so it's not the type of aircraft that's creating the problem. I recommend a complete review of the AIM-7 variants for the HUD-4 database as soon as it is practical to do so, all of them, in case I've missed something, although I think the AIM-7M is okay. (Getting the AIM-9D to fire is a PAIN, as it will not acquire targets unless you are reall…

I don't know if I'm doing something wrong or not, but I cannot get the ASROC on my Knox frigates to fire. I tried changing the loadouts, etc. The game sometimes selects the ASROC as the default weapon of choice for an attack, but then never launches the weapon itself...and I know because when I check the magazine later on, it shows the weapons as still being there, even though (if I selected other weapons, too) other weapons have fired without any problem. Any ideas? Mark

Should the MK60 have 600 DP? Most submarines have 20-200 DP, and they are much larger.

Digging through manuals for H3, H3ANW, and H3UE... lots of mentions of the H3 Platform Assistant spreadsheets that were hosted on AGSI's website (now gown AFAICT). Anyone have these old spreadsheet(s) and can share? Please and thank you.

I was taking a look at ODB (old database) and I get some errors in Access when importing the database. Reading Database.xml Annex...FAILED. Reading Change Log Annex...FAILED. Reading Platform Extras Annex...FAILED What is going wrong? Because I cannot export it completely. Writing Platform Extras Annex... And the game pauses for a long time and it doesn't export. Is there any database that goes right with H3RE_3_10?

Quick question... The F-16I Soufa is supposed to be a block 52 F-16 variant, but I don't see loadouts for things like the Derby and AIM-120 missiles. Were the loadouts for one of the F-16A variants used by accident?

Well, I'm finally getting started with Harpoon 3 scenario design... The first scenario is a very simple one...one US cruiser, one Venezuelan frigate, and 6 Venezuelan F-16As. The cruiser patrols waters near Venezuela and the Venezuelans interpret this as an attack and go after her. They win if they sink her; the US wins if they stay alive...sinking the Venezuelan ship is not necessary for victory (although it may be necessary for survival). I apologize in advance if some of these questions are rather basic. First set of questions... I plotted a course for the American ship but it is not moving when the game starts. What do I need to do to fix this? …

Guys, from reading several threads over at Matrix foras one can get the impression that there exists only one working db and that this one is even a "patch" for ANW. Just to make it clear: There are two well-working official databases around - HUD 3 (Darren Buckley) and ANW DB (Dale Hillier). While Darren is out for the time being, Dale is working on the ANW DB and will release an updated version with ANW 3.10. Regards, Ralf

Version 2006.01 of the Database Comparison Utility (dbComp) has been released. Get it at http://www.harpgamer.com under the Tools section. This utility creates a listing of changes between two versions of a database. Please submit your suggestions to this thread. dbComp is a very old tool that can't fully compare the current databases, help in getting it up to current is appreciated.

Not sure if this is a database error or something else... MK112 ASROC will "fire"--it notes a decrease in weapons in the MK112, but no torpedo appears on the screen to indicate that a weapon has actually fired. "Fired" all 8 from one ship at a nearby submarine and they never a) appeared or appeared to do anything. Tested with a DD 151 Asigiri Mark

UnRep times: To calculate a [rough] unrep you need to know factors: With UnRep operations at sea you got 2 possible transporting options: 1: by cables between the ships 2: helicopter shuttles What I know about transportation by cable is that the sea must be relative calm; the ships rolling during this operation due to the displacement and speed of the ships so close to each other [about 10-20 meters]. Photo: US Navy The transport between the ships by cable line is relative slow. Electro engines or people running the cables. So it takes at least minutes to bridge the distance between the ships, but you must also calculate time to click o…

When using the DB Editor that uses the H3 screen (not the MS Acces one, the other one) how do you create a new platform? In MS Access, I go to the last platform and click next, which gives me a blank record to work with. Doing this in the other one just closes the screen. I think I have a pretty fair handle on editing existing entries, just not how to create new ones. I don't find it mentioned in the manual anywhere either. Thanx, Buddha

Okay I've found myself with some more time these days so I wanted to mess around with the hud4 database in Ms, problem is I can only load up the hud3 database. I point it to the hud4 database in the directory but it fails to load each file. Help? Thanks Kelly

Gunny had mentioned the possibility of putting out an update to the HUD-4 every month or so. Would it make sense to simply use a regular schedule? Maybe every other month? Basically, whatever gets done during that period, whether it is a lot or a little, major fixes or just a couple of new platforms, is what goes into the update. So we might see releases in, say, February, April, June, August, October, and December of each year. Some would be big ones and some would be not so big, but they would come on a regular basis, and everyone would know when the next one was coming. Ultimately, this is Gunny's decision, but I would encourage him to do something like t…
