I'm not sure how often these databases get updated (I imagine the authors have actual jobs, families, etc. that might demand their attention, too), but here's what I would like to see added or expanded in these databases whenever it is possible to do so... (I'm guessing some of these do not even require adding new platforms, but just listing existing ones under appropriate countries.) Angola <-- it isn't even in the HUD 3. As I understand it, they have a few Floggers and a few Flankers; I think they also have a couple of Osa IIs. That's enough to cause a little mayhem... Brunei <-- add the Darussalam OPV (with a 57 mm. gun and Exocets, it's as dangerou…

Well, I'm finally getting started with Harpoon 3 scenario design... The first scenario is a very simple one...one US cruiser, one Venezuelan frigate, and 6 Venezuelan F-16As. The cruiser patrols waters near Venezuela and the Venezuelans interpret this as an attack and go after her. They win if they sink her; the US wins if they stay alive...sinking the Venezuelan ship is not necessary for victory (although it may be necessary for survival). I apologize in advance if some of these questions are rather basic. First set of questions... I plotted a course for the American ship but it is not moving when the game starts. What do I need to do to fix this? …

Afternoon gents, I'm looking for any and all information on the ability of helicopters [specifically shipborne] that can deploy decoys in order to provide target deception/seduction. In the ideal scenario, a helicopter such as a Lynx or Seahawk will take off from the ship carrying a number of decoys such as DLF/SLQ-49. The helicopter would then lay a line of these decoys that would confuse an adversary into thinking that a group of ships [namely yours] is somewhere else. I haven't heard of helicopters from any navy being able to do what could be a very useful capability. Thanks in advance D

Hello people. Being a Harpoon classic/gold player, and usually updating myself the database via the platform editor coming with the game, I was rather annoyed when I found out that there were no platform editor within my H3 disk. I was even more annoyed when i could not find any web pages having a working H3 database editor download..... How could I get one? Hoping of earring of you soon, regards. Mor Breizh.

Hello Designers, despite that it's 10 years old, here's a document that would be useful to DB designers, it detail the standard loadouts for the following aircrafts under the PACAF ( Pacific Air Forces ) command: 1. F-15E Configurations 2. F-15A/B/C/D Configurations 3. F-16C Configurations 4. A-10 Configurations 5. OA-10 Configurations 6. B-52 Configurations 7. B-1 & B-2 Configurations 8. F-117 Configurations 9. Not sure if this is a database error or something else... MK112 ASROC will "fire"--it notes a decrease in weapons in the MK112, but no torpedo appears on the screen to indicate that a weapon has actually fired. "Fired" all 8 from one ship at a nearby submarine and they never a) appeared or appeared to do anything. Tested with a DD 151 Asigiri Mark

hello everyone, vids showing military aircraft training at Vlow altitude and stories where drop tank have hit the sea waves or the sand dunes are both common. it's also well know that in wartime, at least over the sea, pilots had to fly very low to not be spotted by the opposition's radar too early. a famous operational exemple is the argentinian Super Etendard wich were approaching their targets at between 10 and 15m above the water. off course, it deosn't mean that they would fly so low over land or even that they would do it by night or adverse weather. thow could we simulate it correctly? as far as i know, the lowest alt at wich teh planes can fly …

Okay I've found myself with some more time these days so I wanted to mess around with the hud4 database in Ms, problem is I can only load up the hud3 database. I point it to the hud4 database in the directory but it fails to load each file. Help? Thanks Kelly

Mark Gellis put forth a question in the HUD4 forums. How to improve the reception of HUD4. I'm going to give my 2 cents on the name of the topic, "Beating the competition." In order to think about beating the competition you might want an understanding of the competition. There used to be more competition, now it pretty much is down to PDB. Frankly I can't even say that HUD4 is competing with PDB, PDB is it right now, period. Anyway, PDB's creator is the one and only Herman Hum. A few things to note about Herman: Herman has a seemingly endless supply of time to devote to his passions. Herman is not afraid to learn and will learn in order to accomplish h…

In trying to modify the HUD3 database (yes I am messing with perfection). I seem to be importing or exporting the DB incorrectly. After exporting I get an error saying that the dbsignature.dll file is missing. I don't even see a file with that name. I import the DB from the DB folder in Harpoon 3.9.4, mess with the db in the editor and then export it back to where I got it. Is that the correct process? Thanks, Steve

Hi All, Would there be any interest in the continuation of the HUD - Harpoon Users Database line of DBs? I've been tinkering with the DB a little and have a few new scens for it that should be ready shortly. I would take this up along with rebuilds of the scens on Dr Who's website and if I gain permission continue the rebuilds I've started on the original scens from the game. Ed Ladner and myself have access to many scens that are probably lost from the web but either simply rebuild with the HUD or are compatible with it. I'd start making these available as well. Anyway a few responses should be enough to motivate me so "hands up" if you're interested...…

UnRep times: To calculate a [rough] unrep you need to know factors: With UnRep operations at sea you got 2 possible transporting options: 1: by cables between the ships 2: helicopter shuttles What I know about transportation by cable is that the sea must be relative calm; the ships rolling during this operation due to the displacement and speed of the ships so close to each other [about 10-20 meters]. Photo: US Navy The transport between the ships by cable line is relative slow. Electro engines or people running the cables. So it takes at least minutes to bridge the distance between the ships, but you must also calculate time to click o…

Greetings from the mines... Many of you will be wondering, "what ever happened to the HUD3?" I'm happy to report that I've managed to put together a group of people from across the Harpoon "World" that are now furiously testing the updated database and rebuilt Global Conflicts 1 Battleset. Don Gilman/AGSI has been kind enough to grant me permission to rebuild and modify the stock scenarios and that's well underway. The project aims to rebuild and or modify all of the original stock scenarios for full compatibility with the HUD3 and improved game play. I'm also working on a modified set of Tutorial scenarios that function with the DB. Don has also in an effort …

Version 2006.01 of the Database Comparison Utility (dbComp) has been released. Get it at http://www.harpgamer.com under the Tools section. This utility creates a listing of changes between two versions of a database. Please submit your suggestions to this thread. dbComp is a very old tool that can't fully compare the current databases, help in getting it up to current is appreciated.
