Pentagon spokesman has just said "over 110" Tomahawks have been launched. Those would be the SSGNs, then.

Yes, apparently USS Florida is in the area?

Yes, I heard that too. At IADS targets.

Is this the first usage of the US SSGN in combat?

No, I think they've been used before; for strikes on Yemen, I believe.

Yes, I believe so. At least the cruise missile part of the platform (dunno about spec ops).

No Tico SWP in vicinity? If this is indeed an Ohio SSGN, it is interesting, when she was repositioned into the Med.

BTW, any info on what U.S ships are now operating off Libya?

Was that tied to one of the SSGNs?

I don't recall, but I remember a blog mentioning it.

Reading elsewhere that there are possibly two Burkes along with USS Scranton and USS Providence alongside the SSGN Florida in the Med.

Right, USS Barry and USS Stout. USS Bataan is sailing into the Med, maybe to join Kearsage and Ponce (or to relieve them according to this http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20110318/pl_af...byaunrestusnavy ) Enterprise CVBG is moving out of Red Sea into the Arabian Sea, so this time the "Big E" will not see action. So no U.S. carrier in the Med?

And something on Libya from a different perspective http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/03/19/e...s_n_837894.html

Its almost funny how different Libyan State TV is reporting events compared to watching Western News Media, now Libyan TV is reporting they've shot a French Plane down over Tripoli.

Enterprise and her escorts Leyte Gulf, Bulkeley, Barry and Mason were still in the Red Sea, afaik.

Florida was at Souda Bay on 7 March, according to Navy News Service.

Information Dissemination had this article on 2 March regarding what ships were in the area.

Reports that there is currently one British ship which is part of the naval force off the coast believed to be the Type 23 frigate HMS Westminster so I suppose that HMS York and HMS Cumberland are still in Malta.
