February 20, 201115 yr At least 173 killed - Human Rights Watch Reports that the regime has actually used "heavy weapons" including a missile on protesters.
February 20, 201115 yr Perhaps this article can provide some insight: http://defense-update.com/wp/20110220_behi...fense+Update%29 I'm particulary thinking on our neighbor Morocco: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-africa-12518116
February 21, 201115 yr Author We're getting mass defections from Gaddafi, including tribal leaders. It's now questionable whether the Colonel is still in power by the end of this week.
February 21, 201115 yr Working on a scenario relative to the recent devolepements in North Africa from the last friday, but I fear the events are faster than my scenario building capabilities
February 21, 201115 yr Now at home. The Smartphone is a good invention, keeps me in touch constantly with the news reports, but only now in the 15" I see clearly in the video of Malta Star (thanks, Silent Hunter) the Mirage F1 were configured for CAS or similar, with two unguided rocket pods in the wing pylons, not as usual without live weapons. Also, without external fuel tanks, not usual in the not very long-ranged Mirage F1. As consequence, I think the Lybian pilots actually were ordened for execute air attacks against the demostrators. Really the last 5 hours I don't believe really Ghadaffi had ordered fight the protesters with combat planes. Now I see my perception was erroneous (they are also some reports about warships firing on Tripoli from the littoral).
February 21, 201115 yr Other Harpoon data: The Mirage F1 were configured for CAS or similar, with two unguided rocket pods in the wing pylons (probably Matra 155 with 18x68mm unguided rockets), not as usual without live weapons (and remember the Mirage F1 has also 2x30mm DEFA 553 internal guns, with 135 rpg, very good for strafing ... against hardened targets). The Libyan Mirage F1 usually are based at Okba Ibn Nafa, some 25 nm of Tripoli and some 246 nm of Malta, in 32° 28' 24N 11° 53' 52E), and the range of the Mirage F1 without external tanks is some 1160 nm, perhaps some 450 nm with the rockets pods and half internal fuel.
February 21, 201115 yr The Malta Star is saying there are reports of another pair of Libyan helos landing in Malta now, too.
February 21, 201115 yr The person who I study about security matters now remembers me Libya is member of the United Nations Human Rights Council to 2013 (With China, Cuba, Russia, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and other good folks): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_Nation..._Rights_Council

February 21, 201115 yr The Mirage F1 were configured for CAS or similar, with two unguided rocket pods in the wing pylons (probably Matra 155 with 18x68mm unguided rockets) ... Good eye, Enrique. Looks like the Matra 155 to me, and fortunately, still full. More pics here.
February 22, 201115 yr Yes ... I forget that because it was obviously a full pod, and that forced my oblivion, but it think I must wrote also that detail I think that detail is clearly the first actual proof of ordered attack to civilians with warplanes, but I don't see mention of it in the media. And it seems the events are worsening in Libya this night ...
February 22, 201115 yr Good eye, Enrique. Looks like the Matra 155 to me, and fortunately, still full. Appears confirmed by more, better pics available here.
