January 9, 201115 yr While you are certainly welcome to your opinion, perhaps you could be more specific about your concerns so that we can attempt a rational response. Most owners of HC don't think it is a miserable, horrible, excuse for a collection of code.

January 9, 201115 yr I'm not sure where the guy's coming from myself. I have the latest HCCE, the Legacy Package, the Amiga version which I play using WinUAE, and the Mac version which I play using Sheepshaver. I've played since the old DOS version from 360, and the only major problems I've ever had I attribute directly to Windows Vista, which I view one of the most bug riddled broken OS's around, since it seems to have trouble with many things other than Harpoon. If there's a better Naval Combat type game out there anywhere, I've never seen it. I think it's even better than NavTAG, which the DOD paid a fortune for I'd guess. Buddha

I'd love to get my moneys worth out of it even if I have to wait another 5 years... being new to a forum it is not a sign of good manners to bash the software the guys around love for years and decades. First post could be to introduce oneself. And if you post about the sim, you should be far more precise: Which Harpoon version causes what kind of problems? Harpoon Classic has no major problems and the latest versions all were very stable. ANW in its current 3.10 has made great improvements, too. So, if you are interested in a decent discussion, rethink your approach to the forum and get more precise. Regards, Ralf
January 9, 201115 yr Author Ok, I've recieved a friendly messege from a forum member pointing out I was out of order in the way I wrote my post, and in hindsight I agree. I was a harsh to the point of being rude and I apolagise for that. However my point does still stand in that I simply find the game has to many issues. I have indeed noticed most of these issues are tracked and logged by dedicated 'harpooners' but from where I satnd fixes for 90% or more of these issues never seem to arrive. I'm not sure what else to say really, you all know the issues as they're well logged on these forums and seeing as I have no other bugs to chip in with there isn't alot I can do about it. Maybe i'll come back in a few months and see how things look.
January 10, 201115 yr My 2 cents Shep, HC is a community, volunteer, effort. H3/ANW is another matter mostly volunteer. If you want it fixed, help. Your response indeed is not at all specific. You could say something like, issue #152 most impedes my enjoyment of the game because... That would be helping. Or you could say, hey, I'd like to write an instroductory scenario, copious documentation to go along with it and provide high definition screen records of the play (narrated) so that you, Tony, can spend those 16 hours working on the code. That would be helping in a bigger way. Matrix and AGSI are the ones getting paid, those of us doing the work on HC are not paid, so again, please be specific and if you have stuck with Harpoon this long, consider that maybe it is worth investing some more time more directly in its betterment to get more of what you want.

January 10, 201115 yr True, but in a number of ways shep1978 is correct, there is a long list of unaddressed defects in the game. They don't much lessen my enjoyment of the game (if at all), but certain items may well annoy certain players. It also isn't "fair" that you pay for the game expecting that financial support to benefit the game more directly than it does. That's one reason I harp on the issue of us not getting paid for this, to potentially decouple that expectation for those who haven't purchased the game. You get direct results in the HC process by becoming part of the process, not by paying money to Matrix or AGSI. But yes, I do disagree that HC is one of the most bug-riddled broken pieces of software on the market .

Perhaps, shep1978, downloading the latest patch might help things out?

The problems are all mechanics of play though, not bugs or defects. I still play it using WINUAE for nostalgia's sake occasionally. That, and the latest version is so much easier, it tends to spoil you for the more "Primitive" releases. I wonder how many of todays PC users could format the HDD on an old XT machine and get DOS up and running on it without tearing their hair out.

I wonder how many of today's PC users even know what you're referring to. P.S. Found a bunch of diskettes from an old job the other day. Wonder what's on them? P.P.S. Still have a Commodore 128 up and running at my Dad's house.
January 11, 201115 yr I don't understand those hard critic opinions, and I don't understand as anybody can think the efforts of Tony and other game supporters are in vain. The game engine even has been expanded and adapted in the last recent years to things for which it was not foreseen to use it initially, as surfaced submarines or air-to-air guns. It's very difficult for me understand those critics as bona fide critics.
