Agreed, I have come across multiple map graphics since I originally posted. I stand corrected.

Carriers in the Gulf 1979-1989
Post-Iranian Revolution, Pre-Desert Storm, did US carriers routinely operate in the Persian Gulf? I'm pretty certain the Enterprise launched the Helos in the Iranian hostage rescue attempt from within the gulf. I recall the carriers supporting Operation Preying Mantis operated outside. I suspect that the carriers mainly operated in the northern Arabian Sea during the shooting phases of the Iran-Iraq Tanker War? Can anyone point me to a reliable source(s)? Thanks as always

This was a good read. Other than having the foresight to use google images for a map of the area fought over, I enjoyed this one and helped me better understand some things for a future game of kriegsspiel.

Just finished Lucky War about the US 3rd Army during Operation Desrt Shield/Desert Storm. It was written by the 3rd Army Historian, Richard M. Swain, not long after the end of the "war", so along with the story there is continued defense of LTGEN Yeosock from the CINC US CENTCOM General Schwarzkopf's "attacks" due to the contemporary release of the CINC's book It Doesn't Take A Hero. Overall a good read if interested in such machinations.

A Better War: The Unexamined Victories and Final Tragedy of America's Last Years in Vietnam by Lewis Sorely An interesting read thus far surveying the change in command climate when the overall US Military leadership in Vietnam transitioned from General William Westmoreland to General Creighton Abrams in post Tet 1968. Operations went from Search and Destroy/Bodycount centric to Secure and Hold with the protection of the Vietnamese populace the primary focus.

NATO Division Commander - Leadership under Fire
Subject: Case [24] It is the end of the Soviet's half of Turn Two. The vast majority of both the 27th Guards Rifle Division and 7th Guards Tank Division are on board. 1st and 2nd Brigades if 8th Mech Division are on board, with the 3rd Brigade expected later this turn. In a bad turn of events for the US in the center of 27th MRD's zone, the cavalry troop in DZ (second southern-most) was collapsed under pressure and two mech battalions still in AM (whoa Staff Points) swung south of the southern most element of US 1st Bde and ran into the 1st Bde HQ, engaging and eliminating that HQ. There will be Command & Control problems for 1st Bde until that HQ gets re-constituted (readings tasker for tonight). The remaining regiments of 7th GMRD are piling up just to the rear of the 25th MRR which is the force currently engaged. 7th TD is still tangling with armored cavalry units in the northern sector, and building up combat power for a planned break out. The main clash is coming and we'll see if raw numbers and poor NATO deployment breaks events in favor of the WP.

I have this back on the table after much reading and thought. Looks like I'll have a better go of it. Same scenario, already playing my like I thought it should have last year. Looking to get this on the table, but double blind at the weekely wargame group.

Riots in London
I never understood the riots here in the 80's and 90's Miami-Dade County Florida and Los Angeles California respectively where many already less-than-fortunate people decide to riot, destroying their neighborhoods, their own and the property of their neighbors and much of the good will of their countrymen. Kinda also reminds me of the seemingly habit in the Middle East for firing celebratory bursts of automatic weapons fire nonchalantly into the air directly above themselves and those around them.

Rest In Peace Darren. Wishing you fair winds and following seas...

Which scenario would you prefer?
As a companion to H4.1, let me think about it. First thoughts other than the GCS number crunching...hmm, hex and counter or miniatures? Hex/counter, perhaps World at War: Operation Garbo combined with some other forces from that series, or in miniature, Fistful of Tows 3. Both have platoon sized maneuver units. More thought...
