A walk through the H3 versions
Ok, here we go. Air missions set. AC underway to their stations. The goal is to protect a convoy heading for the UK. Main threats will be hostile AC coming in from Iceland. Maybe subs and ships, too. A classical Cold War scenario, the stuff I like.

A walk through the H3 versions
Lost two more F3 due to those deadly long ranged Grumble SAMs. Got many helos in return and brought my two Trafalgar subs in position. I thought this must be an easy win when both subs fired their Spearfish torpedoes. But I blew it and only achieved a draw since I lost both Trafalgar subs. I totally had forgotten about those dangerous SS-N-14 Silex rocket propelled torpedoes. They got both subs.

A walk through the H3 versions
It´s 15:4 now and I downed a first Helix ASW helo. On my way bringing my assets in position and surrounding the hostile carrier group.

A walk through the H3 versions
After two more runs, the score is 12:4. My Tornados now use their Amrams wisely and outgun the Flankers. Seems like there is a full regiment of SU-27 on the Russian carrier, so it´s still a long way to gain air superiority. And only after having achieved this I can start to attack the carrier group with air assets. My subs still have no solid contacts.

A walk through the H3 versions
Further improvements: After the second round, the body count is 8:3 for me. The Amrams did it good job. Eight downed Flankers is a word. Still no exact fix on the hostile carrier group. Just launched two Nimrods to get better intelligence.

A walk through the H3 versions
First round is over. Fighting the 3.6.X AI is always fun and a match. No Turkey Shoot, this AI delivers a hard fight. Especially when it has capable units at its disposal. This is what makes this scenario so challenging: those SU-27 Flankers are a real match for the British Tornados. The score is 2:2 at the moment. The Tornado´s Amrams outrange the Flanker´s long range missiles, but when it comes to a dogfight the Flankers are better. All in all the UK leads since I sunk an Akula Class SSN with a Spearfish torpedo launched by my SSN.

A walk through the H3 versions
Scenario started. set up CAP and AEW from Manchester AB. Set up SuCap and ASw stations for the Fleet´s ac and helos. Ordered my subs to creep speed and as deep as possible. Just got the first ESM contacts, the first indication from where the Russian Fleet is approaching. How often I´ve played this scenario and it never bores me.

File - GIUK - New Russia Part One: The Invasion of Poland
Thanks, Brad, for both playing it and Your helpfull suggestions. Will do a final update this weekend, making it V 2.1: - delete the doubled base Warsawa - cutting down the number of Nato aircraft - and inserting a few more surprises How did sea warfare work this time? The Russian CVBG should be hard to kill (?) Have already started on New Russia Part Two

File - GIUK - New Russia Part One: The Invasion of Poland
Here we are: now it has become a classic Central Front battle. No Nato strategic bombers, no bases in the UK. The German Airforce, combimed with USAF assets, now has to support the Polish troops. So, in some way, it is a Cold War Central Front Battle warped from the 80ies into 2014 and moved East from Germany to Poland. Really curious how this turns out for You - can Poland be defended or is it lost?

- Version V 2.0
Scenario Background: New Russia Part One: The Invasion of Poland Version 2.0 September, 15th, 2014. One month ago, Russia invaded the Ukraine. This had been well prepared and the Ukrainian forces were outgunned and overrun in a month. Russia has taken control over the whole country amazingly fast and installed a Moscow friendly regime. Nato acted helpless and chattered in different tongues. The US look weak and are heavily involved in the Middle East where the IS forces gain territory by the day. Russia has decided to make use of this perfect strategic situation. It has massed troops, armored vehicles and aircraft all along the border and is ready to strike and ... win again. This is a huge scenario. Nearly 1'000 aircraft and hundreds of mobile land units are involved. At the same time, it is fast and furious, thus, especially in the beginning, game speed 1:1 is recommended. I tried to set up the current Polish, Russian and German Air Forces and bases accurately. It is interesting to test how this mixed Polish force of somewhat aged American and Russian aircraft will perform against the modern Russian Air Force when the first blows come in. Comments and critiques welcome.-

File - GIUK - New Russia Part One
HARM equipped Tornados chipped away at enemy radars, but the Russian air defence was very dense. At least a couple of armored columns overran my forward bases before I could crack the SAM bubble and start hitting the tanks and arty. Most of my losses came from Russian fighters or pushing my luck with the ground attack or just plain inadvertence on my part. Did you script an attack by Russian ground forces on any Polish airbases? I would consider adding more capable and more modern SAM/AAA other than the SA-11. How about SA-15/-17/-19/-22? Sounds like a hell of an air-to-ground fight. Good! No, the Russian Forces have no attack missions on Polish bases. Didn´t consider that this is possible with ground forces. Good idea. As to the SAMs: I thought, the SA-11 is the deadliest mobile SAM unit. Maybe I was misled by those infos regarding the Ukraine. I´ll add the SAMs you recommend - thx.
