What says the forum ... Is it better to have a scenario that is "epic" in nature - spanning the entire length and breath of a region (i.e., a fight on two-fronts) OR is it better to break things down a bit and examine each front separately? I'm trying to decide on how I should craft one of the upcoming BRICS installments.

Can you guys go through your scenario uploads and use nice small thumbnails? I think it is more important to be able to read the information than to see a photo or screenshot overtake the web browser. I would propose a maximum width of 320 or so pixels, something like... Or if you think I'm way off base I'd appreciate your thoughts. Thanks!

Or how to promote a web site 1,- Choose a rare historical battle. 2.- Design and build a scenario based on it. 3.- Use the battle name in the scenario title. 4.- Publish it on this site. Results: Using Google Search, if you are searching for: "Operation Ivy Bells", now you can find the HCE scenario on tenth position on Google. "Sinking of INS Eilat", now you can find the HCE scenario on sixth position on Google. "Capture of Ibrahim al Awal", now you can find the HCE scenario on fourth position on Google. And a lot more difficult, it's a more important and famous battle: "Operation Praying Mantis", now you can find the HCE scenario on 26th position on Goo…

I have noticed this in a couple of the recent scenario releases, and I thought it would be a good opportunity to offer a tip for scenario writers. The SE will permit you to move the location of installations (airfields, ports, etc) on the map. Sometimes the coordinates plugged into the DB (via the PE) do not translate well onto the game maps and you will find an airfield slightly off kilter from where it ought to be. Perhaps in a body of water when it ought to be on the coast, or an island, for example. While this does not impact game play in the sense that it prevents use of the base, it does look odd and will change the range/endurance of aircraft operating …

I was designing a scenario and trying to get the sensors on the ships to be active at the start of the scenario. I entered the sensor command at waypoint #0 in the course editor, but when I start up the scenario all the sensors on the home players ships are turned off. Is this normal or did I not do the right procedure to start both sides with sensors active. The base sensors are on only the home ship sensors start in the off position. Thanks, Steve

Since mines are a relatively new addition to the game I thought I'd ask if anyone has pointers on setting up a believable and effective water/land mine field. Mostly for water, but here are the Qs. What is the best depth to place them at? How many would make a decent field? How far apart should I place them? In my few experiments with them, I almost always end up getting them into what I consider far to large an area. This could just be my perception however.

The eruption of a new civil war in the Balkans on the eve of the XX Winter Olympics drastically complicated European efforts at achieving security in Torino. The air forces of Switzerland and Italy were already working closely to ensure the Games were safe from terrorist attack, but the sudden outbreak of armed conflict on their doorstep was completely unexpected. Their accord did not cover military threats. The situation in the Balkans was still very unclear, but it appeared that several of the former territories of Yugoslavia were ganging up on Slovenia. Preliminary intelligence analysis indicated that the conflict may be rooted in tensions arising from Slovenia having …

In the past month or so, we've had more than a half dozen great new scenarios for HCE. Check em out! These come from a couple of the community's more prolific scenario writers, Enrique Mas and Patrick Howard, and we're fortunate and happy that they're sharing their work with the rest of us. Bravo and thanks, guys. [Enrique, thanks for making use of the 'new' Middle East battleset for your latest scenarios. Much appreciated!]

Well this forum seems to be more busy then over at Matrix so let me post this here too: This scen is already playable... there needed to be some minor changes, but I guess it is now too big and the scen editor crashes regulary. But the version I have now (better 2 version, 1 more "heavy" and Red has more stuff) is playable very good on the 2 systems I tested them on (older PCs so newer ones should have no prob at all). Heres the copy from 1st postings at Matrix (I´ll update these to have a little blog about the history and the equipment you have and face) http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=3322907 NOTE: THIS WAS DESIGNED IN HARPOON GOLD 2002 - using…

Chinese political influence over the path of the Asian Super Highway has threatened plans for the future expansion of Indian trade ties in Indochina. China has convinced Bangladesh and Myanmar that their economic interests would be better served by linking Chittagong with a trilateral road network with Myanmar and Kunming in China. While the Super Highway is being purpose built to advance multilateral commerce, China has been keen to extract military advantages. There is strong Indian opposition to the Chinese "meddling" in plans that they had already believed finalized. In reply, the PRC has followed up on its political pressures by convincing both Bangladesh and Myanmar…

The worst case scenario for Sweden has just come to pass. Failed promises of prosperity after EU integration, combined with persistent high unemployment, have suddenly brought down the government in Finland and replaced it with one friendly to an aggressive Russian Federation. Russian armed forces have been granted access to Finnish airspace and territory as part of a mutual defence pact. This includes the Aland Islands, which are rumoured to have been "leased" (some say sold) to Russia, and already military forces are reported to be digging in around the islands and constructing fortifications there. This is extremely alarming to Sweden, whose protests have gone unanswer…

Attempting to come up with a storyline for a WestPac BattleSet that escalates more slowly than say a Chinese attempt to take Taiwan. https://bpr.berkeley.edu/2019/08/26/the-malacca-dilemma-a-hindrance-to-chinese-ambitions-in-the-21st-century/ 2006 Maritime Security and the Straight of Malacca https://apps.dtic.mil/sti/pdfs/ADA479400.pdf Dire Straits: Naval Security Competition between China and the United States in the Strait of Malacca https://repository.library.georgetown.edu/bitstream/handle/10822/712787/GJAA 1.1 Sliwinski.pdf;sequence=1 Australia https://www.aspistrategist.org.au/time-for-a-standing-force-to-keep-the-malacca-strait-clear-of-mines/…

40th scenario posted this year! STRIKE - EC2003 GIUK Battleset FROM: COMMANDER WESTERN APPROACHES TO: COMMANDER 111TFW, LAKENHEATH AFB SUBJECT: STRIKE ORDERS SITREP: The strike two days ago by NATO submarines against Soviet naval bomber bases and Soviet AF bomber bases on the Kola Peninsula was not as successful as SacLant had hoped. However, we are presented with a golden opportunity to hit them again since heavy weather has closed their bases. With Strike Fleet currently tied down just south of the Narvik line while trying to re-arm and filter Pact sub forces, our only chance is to strike them hard with USAF tactical fighter bombers. ORDERS: Using…

Just a little story arising from taking a certain HCE demo scenario for a spin ... HMS Oberon and HMS Odin patrolling some 200 nautical miles west of enemy occupied Bodo, tasked with the priority mission of acting as a roving ambush for surging Soviet submarines that might try to slip down the coast of Norway. Secondary task of potentially interdicting a powerful Soviet surface action group reported to be heading south. Patrolling about 10 nm apart, Oberon suddenly loses contact with sister boat Odin. Soviet maritime patrol aircraft are known to have forward deployed to Bodo, their radar emissions having been picked up a Nimrod patrolling far to the north, s…

File Name: Senkaku File Submitter: Clemens File Submitted: 17 Apr 2012 File Category: WestPac DB Used: HCDB-120405 Authors: Clemens Battleset-WPac: .scq - WPac - WestPac Just a small scenario based on the Senkaku Islands dispute. This is my first scenario after a several years without harpoon on my computer, so please offer any and all critiques on this as I hope to write several scenarios based on the Senkaku and Spratly Islands and Taiwan, (possibly involving NK and SK too) The background is yet another confrontation by chinese fishing trawlers. Several had anchored just off of one of the islands. As expected a standoff ensued until the JCG attempte…

I thought I would post a few ‘teasers’ for upcoming scenarios of mine that will soon be available for download. Foxes in the Hen House (for Westpac) A pair of US Navy Skipjack class attack submarines have been directed to intercept three Soviet subs - a Hotel II SSBN, an Echo I SSGN and a November SSN - in the Strait of Tartary, before the Soviet boats can deploy to their patrol zones in the Western Pacific. Oubliette (for Westpac) With the war in Central Europe bogging down and the Soviets showing increasing signs of desperation, the Ohio class SSBN USS Tennessee (SSBN-734) has been given orders to proceed to a deterrent patrol station in the Sea of Okhot…
