I would like to suggest an “enhancement” for the Range & Bearing Calculator in HCCE. Since the tool already determines range and bearing from one base/unit to another, how much more difficult would it be to allow the “player” to select the starting base/unit and then select a specific point on the map, not necessarily another base/unit. I would find this enhancement useful in strike planning when it comes to planning for aerial refueling points, and determining the need for either Standard or Long Range load outs during planning because the best route to the enemy's HVT is not always a straight line through the teeth of their defense. If this is a valid sugge…

I have been having varying results when it comes to the HCCE ASW Model. Through trial, error, and discussion, I now understanding that an aircraft such as a P-3C Orion must be selected in the main map, while also appearing in the smaller unit map, and the "." key be pressed on the numeric key pad. If all is working properly, a "box" representing the sonarbouy will appear on the unit map. I have run into a situation where the aircraft in question still has a quantity of sonarbouys, it is selected on the main map and depicted on the unit map, but when "." is pressed - nothing happens. The aircraft is at Low or VLow altitude and either cruise or loiter speed. Th…

On Ed Ladner's web page (I think) there are old links to "discussion" articles on HC weapons characteristics, tactics, theory, etc. I think that it would be a great boast to HCCE to see more like them, relevent and updated, like how to set victory conditions, how to set up the most basic scenario, how to plan a coordinated strike, how to take down a SA-10 battery, how to take out a CVBG, etc. What do you think you old salts? Thanks, Pete

A blue player has 2x LR-SEAD and 4x GP loadout F/A-18D's, and 1x EA-6B and is planning on striking a an isolated Coastal Defense Bty defended by a lone SAM Bty. Is it best to keep all five aircraft as one group or are all of the unique attributes of these aircraft types/loadouts aggregated when employed as one group? My intent would be for the EA-6B to jam enemy radar, the SEAD to suppress the SAM, while the GP's hit the coastal defense bty. Thanks,

Howdy Howdy... Call me the newbie from nowhere. Unable to get some of my wargaming friends into the paper/model Harpoon game about a decade ago, I'm forced to play (for my sadistical pleasure) the computer simulation of this game, which I kind of really enjoy (notice that I don't say totally). However, I'm stuck on quite a few things that get's me kind of annoyed - especially for the EC 2000/2003 battlesets. I really can't dedicate a majority of my limited free time into researching if there might be a strategy/information guide (a bit more indepth that the one provided with the Gold edition) to understanding some of the mechanics on the game play. …

Hello all. I'm new to the forum but not new to Harpoon - I played (and still have) the original boxed set of pen/paper/counter/ruler & dice rules) and bought HC97 when it emerged on I-Magic in the UK in 1997. I have had many PCs since (currently have 3) and it has been on every HD since I bought it ! However, I am unable to locate any copies of HC Gold 2002 that I can buy - I do not have access to a credit card to purchase on-line from the publisher, etc. E-bay currently has only 1 Harpoon item (original DOS diskette-based prgram). Does anyone have any suggestions or anyway to help as I would dearly love to play this newer incarnation of what is a classic g…

Is there a hotkey or other way to print all or part of a scenario's message log. At this moment, there does not appear to be a way to do this or even highlight/copy/paste a selected portion. Thanks, Pete

The IRC Chat sessions in #HarpGamer often produce interesting and useful information as seen below: Q: Weather. What was done about it? Is there now a better model in place? A: Sea state from weather now has an impact on sonar modeling. [Participant Comment: I remember sailing litte boats into storms with no effect whatsoever.] Q: Is the starting time/date still the same that you have on your PC clock? A: No, HCGold fixed time/date. We also got Night/Day/Morning/Evening to work and affect visual detection. Find the current date/time of day in these terms in the Weather Report. Thanks to all who participated in this informative discussion. Also, pleas…

Hello all, I am trying to have several strikes arrive at the same TOT. I have the different speed and distances (multiaxis attack, you know) but I can't get my pilots to pull it out. Is there anyway to achieve this, or the evasion codes will forever impede it?

Hello folks, Just a note to let you know we have activated the AAR section of the HarpGamer website. If you haven't read these before, I can't recommend them to you enough! It's always gratifying when folks take the time to write down their impressions of a scenario for the sake of giving feedback to the designer and for sharing with the community at large. Even better if it motivates you to play a scenario you had not yet looked into. And all the moreso if it motivates you to write your own AAR after playing. The scen designer appreciates the feedback and the players have another perspective to compare with their own experiences. Everybidy wins. To post…

Thanks for starting this site, and best of luck to all who made it happen. Harpoon certainly continues to demonstrate a vitality and timeliness in all its forms that few other sims - perhaps only Falcon 4 - can come close to matching.
