From Army Times Soldiers warned about sensitive info in blogs By Lolita C. Baldor - The Associated Press Posted : Thursday May 3, 2007 5:58:22 EDT WASHINGTON — The Army is taking stronger steps to warn soldiers they will be punished if they reveal sensitive military information on Web sites or blogs. While the possibility of punishment is not new, the Army spells out in recently published regulations the range of actions if soldiers “fail to protect critical and sensitive information.” Some Web logs, also called blogs, raised alarms this week, suggesting the Army was cracking down anew on soldiers who have blogs. But the bulk of the regulations releas…

If we happy go lucky Canadians really wanted to conduct cross border espionage, it would be via the beer and hockey markets, not our funny looking currency. P.S. Don't be so paranoid ! Relax, have a beer and watch the game !

New job this year, after 5 years walking 10 minutes to work, now I'm a daily commuter, 73 Km./1 hour 15 min. up and down in a boring bus (Rented and payed by me and by some of my coworkers of my public administration !!), but this year we can use the new Netbooks, For trials, and as Xmas present from me to me, I purchased an Asus Eee PC 1000H (Warning, The "H" matters for obtain the full specifications, 10,2" screen, 1 Gb RAM, expandible to 2 Gb, 160 Gb. HD, Intel Atom 1,6 Ghz processor, Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator 950 of, I think, 256 Mb, and wireless IEEE 802.11n/draft-n), and, as temporary conclusions: - Cramped keyboard and screen, but usable. - Some pr…

From USNI Proceedings High Seas Hollywood: The 25 Best U.S. Navy Movies By Eric Mills Tinseltown on occasion has seen fit to go down to the sea in ships, U.S. Navy ships, that is. To celebrate the Navy’s birthday, we offer a bit of entertainment—a tour through the best U.S. Navy movies ever made. What’s most striking about the history of the Hollywood/Navy nexus is the almost criminal under-representation of the Age of American Fighting Sail. 1952’s Yankee Buccaneer depicts the Navy’s pirate-chasing efforts in the early 19th century, but it’s not all that memorable. 1959’s John Paul Jones stars Robert Stack as America’s first sea hero, but it doesn’t remotely…

From National Defense, November 2008 issue Customers Blamed for Military Aircraft Sticker Shock By Sandra I. Erwin The justification most often heard for the spiraling costs of military aircraft is that the Pentagon is ordering fewer of them, so they become more expensive to build. But that theory doesn’t hold water, says a recent government-funded study. The Rand Corp. examined cost trends for every military aircraft — patrol, cargo, trainer, bomber, attack, fighter and electronic warfare — for the past quarter century. It found that labor costs have grown only slightly faster than inflation, but the proportion of labor cost in overall aircraft price tags …

The Russian Navy's sail training ship Kruzenshtern is visiting our harbor this week. Haven't found time to get downtown for a closer look or pics, so this will have to do ... I understand that she is one of the larger 'tall ships' still around.

Should anyone want to buy me a present, Mizu Super Yachts look a whole lot like warships on the outside and would be a prime choice of gift. Now if anyone does give me such a gift, I'll take it for one cruise, put it up for sale, quit my job, and write warfare simulations for the rest of my life. So win-win for all of us, right? As my available time decreases I'll be pushing for all of you to make better and better issue reports. Here is a fantastic article on the topic. http://www.joelonsoftware.com/articles/fog0000000029.html I'm still not happy with the Issue Tracker here and still have a couple hundred issues to revive from the old forum format but the contents of a good issue report remain the same as they have for over a decade. Thanks all, with luck there will be a nice new stable beta for HC posted tonight in large part in response to an issue report posted last week.
