Page 2 of the H4.1 Data Annex is titled A Guide to Trilogy Ship Listings. "ESM/AIR: Surface ships use only the first field while subs use the second. No surface ships carry an ancoustic interecept receiver. The generations are listed as 1st/2nd/3rd Gen. For subs, the two ratings are separated by a slash." In working up an Improved Los Angeles Class SSN, its ESM/AIR rating is 3rd/4th Gen. How are the 3rd and 4th Gen ratings utilized? I'm assuming 3rd Gen ESM would be while on the surface - a la a surface ship? I'm drawing a blank on the "AIR" rating. Thanks

Hypothetical scenario of a Russian Tarantul making a getaway out of a no fire zone. F-15 is scrambled to intercept & engage. This was a random encounter I put together to use the aircraft movement rules for the first time, compare radars of plane v ship and then see how the F-15 (one of my favourite aircraft, along with the Tornado) goes about attacking a target. Does the APG-70's SAR/ISAR characteristics allow for target classification the moment of it's detection? If so, this appears to give such an aircraft quite a bit of standoff in relation to its other detection assets such as LANTIRN and FLIR. Based on a detection/classification by SAR/ISAR, I'd assume that the aircraft would then attempt to best position itself to effectively employ its weapons within those weapon's particular envelopes and other guidance parameters. Would the APG-70 hand over such target information to the LANTIRN Pod so that the pod would be cued to those targets. Thanks

F-15E strike mission An F-15E is approaching enemy air space. A Mirage 2000 is scrambled to intercept. Initial range is 80nm and the Mirage picks the F-15 up on radar. Its not until the planes reach 60nm the F-15 picks up the Mirage. Both planes are at medium altitude. The planes close quickly, and engagement turns (30 second turns) ensure. The F-15 is armed with a Sidewinder AtA missile which has a range of 9.5nm, giving it more reach than the Magic the Mirage is carrying (6nm). In coordination with my own testing of the New Trilogy Air Rules, I went beyond simple dogfights and cobbled together a old soviet-style attack on a battle group. In this case a squadron of 12x MiG-29 (4x R-77, 2x R-73) is attempting to sweep away opposition for a squadron of 12x Su-34, in the ASuW role. In preparing for a strike mission consisting of F/A-18D strikers, F/A-18C escorts, and EA-6B ECM escort, I have run up with a range issue in mission planning for the F/A-18D's - the first one's that I have worked up. It turns out that with 8x Mk-82, 2x AIM-9M, and 1x 330 USG Drop Tank I turn up 40nm short of the target. This includes a 10 minute combat margin and 10% reserve. Since the H4.1 data anex does not give too many loadout options I have searched and found "Hardpoints: 9: 2 wingtip, 4 underwing, and 3 fuselage, carrying up to 13,700 lb (6,215 kg) of missiles, rockets, bombs, fuel tanks, and pods" on wiki. In H4, an Arleigh Burke Class DDG Flt IIA has a F&A(64)1 Mk41 VLS and F&A(32)1 Mk41 VLS with the capability to carry and fire combinations of SM2MR Block III or IV, Tomahawk, VL ASROC, and Evolved Sea Sparrow Missile (ESSM in packs of 4 in each individual VLS tube. While everything can be explained as mission specific, what would a typical/notional loadout be? Thanks

Radar LOS is 135nm and detection is automatic due to intermeadiate turns. The F-15's radar does not have a chance to detect the smaller Mirage until the range is 25.0nm. 0:04:0 Range 30.0nm 4 minutes later the range has decreased to 30.0nm and the Mirages drop further to Very Low altitude (approx 30 meters) and are literally skimming the ground (wanting to avoid being picked up at all by the F-15's). Began a test scenario of a "veteran" USMC BLT+ attacking a "competant" Iranian Revolutionary Guards Infantry Brigade on a map of the greater New Bern, NC area. See general map here. I mashed together organization from FM 100-3 Infantry Based OPFOR, and various GCS ratings from High Tide and HNR 2003 to create a modern Russian/FSU type of paratroop battalion. The battalion consists of a HQ element, 3x paratroop companies, a mortar battery, a SAM platoon, and ATGM platoon, and finally an AGL platoon. This heavy weight weighed in at 18.63954 as veteran, and 15.53295 as competent - one of the stronger forces I have seen in my brief GCS experience. Is the "accuracy bonus" discussed in 6.3.4.2.4 that a weapon, such as JDAM, is resolved on the Dive Bomb Table (Low or Medium depending upon the altitude it is launched)? Per DaveS (msg #3689) on the Admiralty Trilogy Yahoo Group: "If a GPS guided weapon is used against a nonmoving target it gets the bonus and you would use the Low or Medium altitude dive bombing tables as appropriate. If the target is moving and the weapon does not have terminal guidance, treat it as a dumb bomb (if it does have terminal guidance, treat it as a PGM)." Short answer: yes, the GPS accuracy bonus is resolving it on the respective dive bomb tables.

This action begins southwest of New Bern, between Maysville and Pollocksville, all along Highway 58. Are there any examples of GCI radar sets inthe H4.1/HT data annex? After determining the performance of the respective French and Yemeni AI radars and seeing how what little performance that they have is halved one altitude level below, and two levels above, I'm thinking that the Yemeni's may have needed directions to get to the ballpark.
