Here is an elementary question for resolving combat with the Ground Combat System - NOTE: I have never been accused of being a mathlete and last night "worse". ;)

 

Once the opposing forces ratings are calculated and modified, the instructions advise you to divide your rating by the opponent's and then the opponent's rating by yours to come up with simple odds. Each player rolls the D6 secretly and applies the result to himself.

 

Last night I totaled up the the two forces found in HNR2003 and after doing the calculations the results were something to the effect of US 2.2 and Iranian 0.46. When I then take these figures to the Combat Results Table, I believe that I understand the logic, US rolls on the 2.2:1 row and the Iranian should on the 0.5:1. Following my logic, there appears to misplaced decimal points in the lower rows of the table. Labels like 05.0:1 but the results appear to be in line with 0.5:1.

 

There is no South Atlantic War II (where the GCS Rules reside) errata on clashofarms.com website.

I can't see any math problems in what you've presented and errant decimal point in the table sounds like an astute observation. However, since I have no experience with the ground combat system or any of the background, I don't see a way to evaluate your results (or your math).

Thanks Tony, for looking at the CRT and my feeble examples tonight on HG chat. You put me on the straight and narrow to finally derive some joy from the Ground Combat System and even the CIC Combat Plotter.

Today at lunch, a reinforced, veteran, Light Armored Reconnaissance Company, with a battery of M198 155mm (T) artillery in direct support met an "Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps" inexperienced Infantry battalion in a meeting engagement, each conducting hasty attack orders in rolling foothill terrain. In 1.5 hours of game time, or 3 turns, the Iranian attack stalled on a disruption result, and suffered three more Attrition Points. The USMC units suffered one attrition point. I did not have the time to finalize the losses. It has something to do with the interaction of unit quality and attrition points equaling the % of GCS lost by that unit.

 

All in all, it was entertaining while giving an abstract or low-fidelity view of the "battle".

 

If you are looking for more decision making or eye candy, it is not for you. This system was designed to go with H4's naval and air battles so where a particular unit is specifically located or if he is hull down is not addressed. The player is the overall commander and must have faith that his subordinate commanders have "done the right thing."
