I posted a video of a SimPlot screenshot showing the new turn replay feature. The game running in it is a re-creation of the Origins 2019 Dance of the Vampires scenario that was run by me and Larry Bond. The original turn files are not compatible with the SP2 update, so I had to run the game all over again using the original turn files as guides. The end result looks just like it happened at the convention. The Undo Turn and Undo Move buttons at the bottom right looked fine in the Win version, but as you can see they aren't right in the Mac version. I will have to fix that. They do, however, work very good. The update is nearing completion. I want to spend…

Hellos, I am hearing quite a bit about 'notching' AAMs these days. I am curious was this a tactic back in the Cold War or is this something new? Thanks.

At the last minute I was able to get time off from work and drive down to Lancaster, PA for the Cold Wars 2019 convention. There I met Larry Bond, Chris Carlson, Mike Harris, et al. I played Dawn of the Battleship with them on Friday, and Dance of the Vampires (abridged) on Saturday. Saturday they also gave a presentation on the Chinese navy and a closer look at the proposed air defense rule changes for H4.2. Larry and Chris said they would do a writeup on the DotV game, but I don't know in what publication/web page that will appear. When I find out I will let you guys know. I can tell you that the new rules will greatly reduce the complexity of a mass missile r…

Ah, it feels good to be back. I have a Klasse 122, with its MF hull-mounted DSQS-21B sonar and its Lynx Mk88 helo with its HF AQS-18 Dipping Sonar. Due to their respective MF and HF frequencies, while they can potentionally detect a Quiet Project 877 Kilo SS, neither would be unable to classify the target. So is going active the only way to classify a detected target with this types of sonar kits? Is active classification complete, i.e. No equivalent 4.4.8 for active sonar? Does a hull sonar only search one depth level. Would a dipping sonar be any different? I would think it would be at least close to omnidirectional. Thanks

Hi All, So I've been thinking about Harpoon and related matters recently, and one of the suggestions made was that I might want to get my hands on a copy of the paper rules in some form. I doubt i could actually play, but maybe it would help me get an idea of naval tactics, or at least understand what's possible a bit more. I can seem to find almost everything except the rulebook in an electronic form. I have the "Dance of the Vampires," scenario book, and can get a copy of the "High Tide," data annex. There are miscellaneous books from the Admiralty Trilogy Group available at various places. I suspect this is probably a lost cause, but does anybody have contacts…

View File Falkland Islands Detail Map This is a high resolution map of the Falkland Islands for use with Falkland War scenarios. The map has no borders or land areas beyond the Islands proper. This allows for the placement of air or surface strike units beyond the Islands without the need for a very large map file. Submitter kmart494 Submitted 08/01/2018 Category Maps

SimPlot File Converter View File This program will convert your current SimPlot2 0.4.1 scenario files to the newer 0.5.0 standard. Most of the unit types will have Number and Class fields added, as well as new text tag on/off values. Just in case, make a backup of whatever files you want to convert. Run the program and use the button to select your file (it brings up a file chooser). The file will be loaded into the program and converted, then the new data saved to the original file. You will then be ready to use the new scenario file with SimPlot2 0.5.0, You will have to go into the modify unit window to change the Number of units …

Hi, Here is a bug I found with SimPlot2 on Mac OSX. I created a custom map for a Falklands scenario which covers Falkland Islands and the Argentinian coast. This map works well on a PC, but when I sent the .txt and the .png files to a friend using His Mac, he complained about SimPlot2 crashing. I tried to debug the map and found out that the problem was occurring when I had coordinates for more than one country, therefore, this works well on a Mac: MAP=Falklands1.png SCALE=2.4 COUNTRY=FALKLAND ISLANDS|128.25|-64.25 CITY=New Island|60.12|-60.50|T CITY=Port Stanley|191.12|-58.87|T CITY=Rio Gallegos|-239.88|-54.38|T CITY=Port San Carlos|147.75|-47.25|T CITY=P…

View File CaS Plan Alpha This is a test scenario for using SimPlot to play a Command At Sea game. Unzip the scenario folder into your "SimPlot/Scenarios" folder and start a Single Player game. This scenario can be played with multiple players, but someone will have to be the referee. SimPlot uses Nautical Miles for distance measurement. CaS uses Yards, so for a rough conversion divide the Yards by 2000 to get NM. Also, multiply the on-screen NM ranges by 2000 to get Yards. The scenario details are in The Naval SITREP # 52 (April 2017) which is available from The Wargame Vault. ** NOTE ** This version is not compatible with…

I need to test my file routine that (I hope) allows players to exchange files regardless of regional settings (especially for decimal separator). Below are three files: a US file with period separators, an international file with comma separators, and a mixed file with both. Tests on my US computer worked well, but I need someone from outside the US/Canada to load these files as a test. The files have three units (Red, Blue, Neutral). If you can see them plus the movement tracks, then the test is a success. Kevin EDIT: The files should be loaded as a Single Player/Referee scenario. US_turn.txt Intl_turn.txt Mixed_turn.txt

Here are the Windows and OS X versions of SimPlot 2. This is just an alpha test, but since I have no in-house staff, I am going to use you guys as the alpha testers. This version only supports single player operations at this time. I will have multiplayer up and running for the beta test. At this point I just want some feedback on the look and feel of the display and supporting windows. I am especially interested to know if the separate land and border maps are useful. Honestly, it would be easier to just have one map with land and border, but I have seen some Navy displays that only had borders. Please be aware that some things are easy to break, as error-c…

File Name: SimPlot 2 File Submitter: kmart494 File Submitted: 26 Dec 2017 File Category: Application/Tools/Mods/Docs SimPlot 2 (short for simple plotter) provides Harpoon4 paper rules players an opportunity to accurately track the location of units in a graphical environment. Specially made background maps can be used to create a sense of location for the battle. Additional unit graphics can be utilized to enhance game play such as range circles, ESM/Sonar bearing lines, limited unit perception and unit text tags. Multi-player games are possible using a referee to control the movement of units, and to determine the outcome of detection and combat. Pla…

I suspended working on upgrades for SimPlot and SimPlot Viewer in favor of an overall rewrite of the program that would include both single and multiplayer modes. I have been experimenting with a language called Xojo so I could create PC, Mac, and Linux versions without having to maintain multiple programs. The experiment did not go well at first, but as I learned to cope with Xojo's way of doing things, and the differences between Mac and PC, I am at a point of increased confidence in Xojo. So, I have created a display test of what I would like SimPlot 2 to look like. Functionality at this point is limited, but at least you will get to see the future of SimPlot. …
