View File SimPlot2 SimPlot2 (short for simple plotter) provides Harpoon4 paper rules players an opportunity to accurately track the location of units in a graphical environment. Specially made background maps can be used to create a sense of location for the battle. Additional unit graphics can be utilized to enhance game play such as range circles, ESM/Sonar bearing lines, limited unit perception and unit text tags. Multi-player games are possible using a referee to control the movement of units, and to determine the outcome of detection and combat. Player-oriented files are sent from the referee to the players so they can only see whic…

The official Harpoon 5 Jumpstart is released. This is a preview of the H5 rules in the form of a scenario playthrough. The Jumpstart is a free download. It can be downloaded here, and will be available soon at the Wargame Vault (http://wargamevault.com) or at The Admiralty Trilogy (http://www.admiraltytrilogy.com/). For your behind-the-scenes information, the Jumpstart scenario was run by me using SimPlot. There were actually three scenarios executed, with each one resulting in tweaks to the rules, data annexes, or the scenario graphics. The Guardian scenario contained therein is the third and final version. Some changes to SimPlot were also implemented to faci…

It has been a while since I worked on an update due to life and diversions, but I have a new inspiration so a new update will be out in a few weeks at most. The big inspiration moving this forward is Larry Bond's acceptance of my offer to use SimPlot to referee a scenario at the Origins Game Fair in June. Each of the sides (USSR and NATO) will have a paper planning map made from my new SimPlot GIUK map (not yet uploaded to Harpgamer). Larry and I will then take orders from the players and run the turns in SimPlot. Players will update their paper maps accordingly and make decisions. This is a "hybrid" game idea, which blends a computer with a live convention setti…

Howdy folks! jeffteacher23 here. I read RSR way back when and stumbled onto Harpoon v3 paper game about 1989 or so. I really like to run/referee a game between different players, As soon as v5 drops I plan on getting a copy and learning it. Then I'll need some players. I'm in Mainland China just north of HK, so it will probably be slow going until action is joined, then it will have to be on a weekend for the resolution via zoom and email for privileged communications. Any interest? I hope so!

View File CaS Plan Alpha This is a test scenario for using SimPlot to play a Command At Sea game. Unzip the scenario folder into your "SimPlot/Scenarios" folder and start a Single Player game. This scenario can be played with multiple players, but someone will have to be the referee. SimPlot uses Nautical Miles for distance measurement. CaS uses Yards, so for a rough conversion divide the Yards by 2000 to get NM. Also, multiply the on-screen NM ranges by 2000 to get Yards. The scenario details are in The Naval SITREP # 52 (April 2017) which is available from The Wargame Vault. ** NOTE ** This version is not compatible with…

SimPlot 2.3 for Win10 View File Introduction SimPlot (short for Simple Plotter) is a utility program that supports Harpoon games by automating the movement process in a graphical environment. SimPlot uses a simplified X, Y coordinate system that makes range and bearing calculations easier. North is always at the top of the screen, and the 0, 0 coordinate is the center of the "game area". Each whole number of the coordinate system represents one nautical mile. Presently, SimPlot supports the display and movement for many of the common unit types found in Harpoon: surface ships, subs, aircraft, helicopters, missiles, and torpedo…

File Name: One China - Bogies File Submitter: kmart494 File Submitted: 02 Apr 2016 File Category: Scenarios This is the "Bogies" scenario from the "One China" scenario trio in Harpoon Naval Review 2000. This scenario file shows the starting locations for units with a fixed location, and the general areas for units or formations that would be set up per player desires. The exact composition and formation of the US CVBG, the CVBG airborne assets, the PLAAF attack aircraft formations, and the PLAN submarine locations would have to be determined and put into the scenario before beginning the battle. This scenario is designed to use the Northern Taiwan /…

Page 2 of the H4.1 Data Annex is titled A Guide to Trilogy Ship Listings. "ESM/AIR: Surface ships use only the first field while subs use the second. No surface ships carry an ancoustic interecept receiver. The generations are listed as 1st/2nd/3rd Gen. For subs, the two ratings are separated by a slash." In working up an Improved Los Angeles Class SSN, its ESM/AIR rating is 3rd/4th Gen. How are the 3rd and 4th Gen ratings utilized? I'm assuming 3rd Gen ESM would be while on the surface - a la a surface ship? I'm drawing a blank on the "AIR" rating. Thanks

Morning all, This may sound like a stupid question, but where in the hotel are the rules for night time operations? I have searched the paper rules and can't find squat on it. The reason I'm asking is because I'm working on a hypothetical scenario about a night surface action between the Argentine and Royal Navy units in 1982 and can't find any data on whether the Lynx helos used by each side were VFR only or not. If the helo's were not able to fly it would greatly complicate targeting because the aircraft would have to use radar. The RN's use of Sea Skua's would also be greatly curtailed. Many thanks in advance. D

Designed my own scenario based on a Sea of Dragons scenario between the Singapore Navy and Indonesian pirates. 2x Singapore Sea Wolf PGs vs a Fatahillah class FFL and a PB-57 and 2x pirate skiffs as per the excellent 2009 naval review. I used the many rules found here in playing pirate scenarios and adopted them for the Sea of Dragons scenario. The scenario started as the Sea Wolves heading southeast at 20kn. the civilian tanker was stopped with 2x pirate skiffs alongside. Before the pirates captured the tanker the ships captain was able to sent off a distress signal. The Indonesian PB-57 which was collaborating with the pirates was 1000 yards off. The Se…

File Name: Port Arthur (Lushun) File Submitter: kmart494 File Submitted: 03 Apr 2016 File Category: Maps This is a map of the Port Arthur (Lushun) area of the People's Republic of China. This map is intended to be used with the One China - Port Arthur 2 scenario from Harpoon Naval Review 2000. The graphic is "fine scale" because the scenario is primarily an ASW exercise, and so the map is smaller but has finer detail than most other SimPlot maps. The map scale is 10.9 pixels/nm.
