pmaidhof Posted September 24, 2011 Report Posted September 24, 2011 Wow, do we know the name of the book, author or publisher? Quote
CV32 Posted September 24, 2011 Author Report Posted September 24, 2011 Wow, do we know the name of the book, author or publisher? No, unfortunately I do not, but I have to say that some of it does look familiar. Maybe an enterprising sleuth can nail down the sources. Quote

No, unfortunately I do not, but I have to say that some of it does look familiar. Maybe an enterprising sleuth can nail down the sources. The colour images are of Modern Naval Combat, by David Miller and Chris Miller, Salamander Books 1986, with a lot of guesses and almost on the closing stages of the Cold War, but also one of the hard years (Soviet war in Afghanistan, Libyan strikes, Challenger disaster, launching of the Mir space station, Chernobyl ...) . For me is a seminal work . But I suppose the same illustrations can be in other later Salamander book. http://www.amazon.com/Modern-Naval-Combat-...r/dp/0517613506 Quote

CV32 Posted September 24, 2011 Author Report Posted September 24, 2011 The colour images are of Modern Naval Combat, by David Miller and Chris Miller, Salamander Books 1986 Yeah, these have 'Salamander' all over them. Thanks, Enrique. Quote
TonyE Posted September 26, 2011 Report Posted September 26, 2011 The colour images are of Modern Naval Combat, by David Miller and Chris Miller, Salamander Books 1986, Right you are, I picked up a copy 3-4 years back and will surely wear the pages ragged! I really like the Naval Technology section from page 10 to 83 as it explains so many of the mechanisms of warfare at a very Harpoon level, not super deep but yet still more than the surface glance most books offer. Sonar is described very well including the various states and depths of 'layers' across different bodies of water. I highly recommend a copy of the book to anyone who isn't super hard-core. Quote

I bought them all in the early 90s and they still form part of my library rather than go into boxes, so good enough for me. There's also a volume on submarines. Quote
eclipse_trb Posted September 26, 2011 Report Posted September 26, 2011 Yep I actually bought my copy in the mid 90's while in europe. Loved the pictures. Quote
