  1. A few considerations from a chat with a fríend in FB: The more painful task building this scenario was to determine concrete ships names (to avoid not Pacific fleet shipnames) classes (example, 7th Fleet shows on the tokens Coontz-class DDGs, they were never Pacific-placed) and variants (the last weeks I even wrote a Spruance-class table to determine things as when a concrete ship was VLS converted or adquired Phalanx. Regrettably the table is incomplete, as the sources). And all the ships and subs in the scenario were Pacific-placed and sailing near the theater on May 1988, as the photo illustrating the scenario reflects.
  2. Changes two hours after the release: added some neutral shipping and Paluan status changed from neutral to rebel.

Philippines Invasion 1988 ... or Battleship Return to Vietnam in WWIII. A Harpoon Commander's Edition scenario for the EC2003 Battle for Western Pacific Battleset and the HCDB-130818 1980-2015 Era Platform Database. Image: Missouri (BB-63) in company with the Long Beach (CGN-9) and others just prior to RIMPAC '88. Retrieved from navysource.org,courtesy of Larry Lee, probably in public domain as taked for an US servicemen. http://www.navsource.org/archives/01/63h.htm This scenario is designed for play with the US-Philippine/Blue side or with by the Soviet-Vietnamese/Red side, to avoid spoilers is better to play a few times first the US/Blue side, and only after the Soviet/Red side. In part is pretended as an introductory scenario, but worth of play for experienced Harpoon players because a lot of random elements. I hope it will the first of a series inspired in old boardgames of the 1970's and 1980's, but modified mainly to introduce the accumulated knowledge about weapons and forces deployment after the Cold War end. In the wake of the Black Sea naval incident of 22 February 1988, some other clashes droved to WWIII. One of them was the Soviet clear and open support to Philippine rebel forces against Corazon Aquino democratic presidency, the Benigno Aquino widow, and his Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Law, contrary to the collectivist aims of the leftist opposition. As climax of the crisis, a Soviet convoy with support of his old Vietnamese allies is openly sailing on the South China Sea with weapons and on board the new revolutionary government to be imposed on Philippines, starting in the poor region of Occidental Mindoro, were the pro-Soviet forces have the control after the seizure of the sugar mills and the rice plantations. The reduced US and allied forces (with old and odd types of planes and ships on his force composition like a remembrance of the ABDA force 46 years before) in theater have the task of prevent the unloading of the convoy, sinking it if necessary, as the first clash of titans is inevitable. 4. Perhaps to add a F-5E Agressor variant for USAF, to be employed in emergency cases (I don't know if they are or were combat capables).
  5. An USAF F-4E Phantom II to add to the INTL F-4E, to replace the generic F-4E in many scenarios. USAF F-4E Phantom II was employed 1967-1991 (I think it's not in the DB because it was frozen originally circa 1992, with the USAF F-4E retired). From November 1968 used in Vietnam. From July 1969 deployed in Europe. From 1985 to ANG units. From 1987 to Reserve units. 993 planes build for USAF and 394 for export. Leading edge slats appliqued to the F-4E fleet from 9/72 to 4/76, to 304 planes and to new build planes, installed in all USAF F-4E survivors less Thunderbirds F-4Es. Some weapons (I think we can use current loadouts from the F-4E INTL and the Israelis F-4Es): AIM-9B AIM-9E from 1967 ¿AIM-9H? AIM-9J from summer 1972, later AIM-9P/N, AIM-9P at least from 1984. Later AIM-9L/M AIM-7E, later AIM-7E2(at least from 2/72), AIM-7E3 SUU-23/A at least from October 1967 ALQ-87 at least from 11/1967? AGM-12B/C/E Bullpup AGM-45A/B Shrike AGM-65A/B Maverick AGM-68A Walleye from 8/67 GBU-8 HOBOS from 1969(with Mk84) GBU-9 HOBOS(with M118 used in Vietnam) GBU-10 Nukes: 1xB28/B43 3xB57/B61 Perhaps later I will sharp a few more the idea ...
  6. To update the Indian Kolkata-class DDG, just now delivered to Indian Navy, basically: - Replace 100mm gun with a 76mm Oto SuperRapid. - Replace 2xKhastan with 4xAKM-630. - Add towed sonar array (ATAS?) - Replace quintuple 533mm TT by 2x4 533mm ASW TT with SET-65M. http://defenceforumindia.com/forum/indian-navy/51822-kolkata-class-destroyers-update-30.html http://www.freewebs.com/jeffhead/aegisvesselsoftheworld/kolkata.htm http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kolkata-class_destroyer
  7. Fascinating time period. I don't like flight simulators (or car simulators, by the way), I think about them as unrealistic (I think is unrealistic to learn to fly on a Mach 2 fighter in an afternoon, and shoot-down enemy planes). But sometimes I think my 2005 Renault Megane Turbo CC (convertible), with 165 H.P. and top speed of 230 Km/h is the nearest I will be to the performances of a WWI fighter !!! hahahaha
  8. Very funny, interesting and realistic, thanks!
  9. Hmmm, I see the RCS of Hammer and GBUs is now not 66, is 6 !!!!
  10. The matching between the Skolnik and the HCDB curves is very impressive, aside the 110 meters-less ships. It's clearly the way for some minor adjusts.
  11. A slightly chaotic navigation site with articles and comments about UK modern weapons systems and others security issues: http://www.thinkdefence.co.uk/2013/04/uk-complex-weapons-part-1-introduction/
  12. Entry 10349 German Westland Sea King Mk41 has not ASW capabilities neither sonar. It was employed initially only for SAR, and from 1989-1989 also for anti-surface warfare with 4xSea Skua. Loadout 56339 should be deleted (or this will generate very probably a crash in previous designed scenarios???). AQS-13 sonar should be replaced by entry 43680 AW.391 (ARI 5955) radar. DPS capability to be deleted. http://www.helis.com/database/model/784/
  13. Oh, I'm sorry by the crash. Thanks Brad!
  14. I suspect more coherence between platforms RCS.
  15. Weapon entry 18462 AS-20 Kayak (Kh-35) has a IR/Laser guidance flag code, it's clearly a typo, it should be an Inertial guidance flag, as in the almost identical SS-N-25 Switchblade, entry 18500.
  16. I suppose that APS-138 data are relative to AS-4 or AS-6 flying high, hehehe
  17. Sensible changes to some air-to-air missiles, mostly on range: AIM-132 ASRAAM (2002+)(entry 18596): ranges máximum-mínimum changed from 8.1/0,5 to 27/0,2, speed changed from 1721 (Mach 3) to perhaps 2008 (Mach 3.5), to add mid-course guidance: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ASRAAM http://www.ausairpower.net/API-ASRAAM-Analysis.html http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/AIM-132_ASRAAM (reference about speed is Mach 3.5). AAM-4 (Type 99)(1999+)(entry 18754): ranges máximum-mínimum changed from 31/0 to 54/2 (2 nm as AIM-120 minimum range), speed changed from 1721 (Mach 3) to 2581 (Mach 4.5): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AAM-4_(Japanese_missile) (and cited links) AAM-5 (Type 04)(2004+)(entry 18909): ranges máximum-mínimum changed from 8/0 to 18.9/0: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AAM-5 (and cited links) IRIS-T (2005+)(entry 18703): ranges máximum-mínimum changed from 8/0 to 19/0, but this is only an informed guess, as IRIS-T has almost the same size, weight, fuselaje/rocket engine diameter and configuration than AAM-5: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IRIS-T (and related links)
  18. They're examples of bistatic sonars in the DB (as some towed arrays), I think it will not a problem to integrate a multistatic sonar, more difficult is to estate a correct range and CZ capabilities. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bistatic_sonar
  19. A light narrative of SAC operations 1957-1991 in a downloadable PDF, with very useful weapons deployment tables at the end (I think it was mentioned by someone in the Command CMANO fórum, but I was in a military history congress the last week and don't remember it very well): https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B205vpZC1pGmbU9nQjBwZUY2SFE/edit
  20. Welcome on board! (And very glad to see here at last some Japanese members!). And not, I've not idea about as to model multistatic sonar, but we're ever open to new ideas.
  21. Great! (not idea or memory about my previous post!!!).
