Ran this scenario again for giggles. Achieved minimum victory (10 Red subs sunk) with 3:11:00 to go. The following hour was very productive. Found and killed four more.

Someone want to take a crack at creating a new Battleset (using the Battleset Builder utility) for the Caucasus region? Ideally I think it would include the Caspian Sea on the east (right hand) side, and the eastern portions of the Black and Mediterranean Seas on the left. Maybe centred on Tbilisi, Georgia. It might be nice to be able to include a good portion of Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan, as well, but the resulting map might be a bit too large. Messing around with the BSB will tell for sure.

The first thing I'd suggest is bringing your version up to the 2009.050 patched standard. (Then, if you like, coming up to the current beta 2009.083). Otherwise, try the Clear registry settings tool which usually fixes missing or wrongly sized windows.

Yep, plays fine. No, sorry, all except the handful of bases in the Kola peninsula area. I could only reach those with B-52, and I wasn't about to send them up there without SEAD or fighter escort. Many of those ships were destroyed very early on during the attacks on Denmark. The poor Danes took a beating. I did have a couple of sub vs sub battles in the Baltic. One ended in success, and the other in mutual destruction. Subs were also excellent for annihilating amphibious groups.

I had more probs to DESTROY subs in the new version (HCE demo) then to detect them to be honest. This is an older scenario that uses the old stock database. The torpedoes, for example, have very low DP values. This is the way it has always been in this battleset, and HCE hasn't changed it. If anything, submarines are easier to kill now than they were before (e.g. the forced surfacing due to damage), assuming of course that you can detect them and hit them.

Fleet Ex 83 A Harpoon Commander's Edition scenario for the Westpac Battleset. This scenario is designed for play by the BLUE side only. The year 1983 has sometimes been described as the 'most dangerous year'. Certainly an argument can be made that this is true, at least as far as the Cold War was concerned. A number of events occurred during 1983 that brought the two superpowers of the era - the United States and the Soviet Union - as close to the brink of war as they had ever been. On 8 March 1983, American President Ronald Reagan delivered a speech in which he described the Soviet Union as an 'evil empire' and the 'focus of evil in the world'. Soviet President Yuri Andropov responded angrily, describing Reagan as 'insane'. Barely two weeks later, fuel was thrown on the smoldering fire. Reagan delivered another speech on 23 March, announcing plans for a laser armed, space based missile defense system that would defend America from nuclear attack. Again Andropov was incensed, accusing the USA of preparing for a first strike. With the rhetoric heated to an unprecedented temperature, and the paranoia in full swing, the stage was set for the possibility of a full scale conflagration between the superpowers. -
