If I buy the Matrix version of Harpoon for 59.99, will it load and run properly on my Windows 10 Laptop?

Hello, My laptop was destroyed.....back ups were not the greatest..lets not go there...😡 I now have a WIN 10 Desktop and have installed HUCE. I can't figure out why the Scenario Editor will not open. I've looked throughout the forum and saw some mention of this happening in WIN7 but can't find an answer. Help please. Cheers

Just wondering if anybody else is playing around with the beta. Downloaded it a couple weeks ago and most stuff works pretty well. All the HCE stuff seems to work fine except for the Scenario Editor. Anybody else having problems? I'm running version 2008.044. I've tried running the Scenario Editor in all of the different compatibility modes but no dice. Fully understand that I'm running a beta OS, and incompatibilities are to be expected, just wondering if anybody else has had any luck getting it to work. Thanks, Jim

I received a copy of Commander's Edition a while ago after having waxed lyrical to the other half about how much I used to love Harpoon. It languished on a shelf for a while as I'm now entirely Linux based and haven't had a great deal of success in the past with games under WINE. However, after giving it a rattle it's surprisingly playable, there are a few little graphic niggles most of which are only a vague annoyance. There's one though that makes some (larger) scenarios a tad difficult. The unit icons appear on black squares making the unit window and the group window on the bigger scenarios a bit difficult to navigate, it's as though the icons were on a s…

I've restarted work on Part 4 of the Tactics 101: ASW effort, which will focus on anti-submarine warfare (ASW) as it is modeled in HCE. Obviously there will be ship vs sub, sub vs sub, and air vs sub. But what kinds of specific match up's would you like to see covered?

  6. Hi, Long time Harpoon user, but have not used it for many years. Just bought the ultimate edition. Is there a link or suggestion for workflow? I am a MAC guy (i7 IMAC), but have win 7 64 bit running via bootcamp. I just loaded the win xp emulator so i can use the scenario editor. What programs should i load and where (win 7 and virtual pc), suggestions on how do set up your folders, manage different databases (i like to play around with the platform editor...sometimes even more than the game). I am not that experienced with the virtual xp set up, so I wouldnt mind leveraging off someone else's hard work! Any help would be appeciated. Sorry if this h…

Just noticed that the World War DB is live and still being added to. But I am not noticing that there are any scenarios to be downloaded using it. Am I missing something? I am currently reading Shattered Sword, about the battle of Midway, and am wondering about using HCE to look at some WW2 actions. I'm assuming that HCE would not be especially useful for surface actions, but my interest is mainly carrier operations so it seems HCE might do just fine. If I were to put together a simple WW2 carrier scenario using the WWDB, how would I approach it as I assume there is no battle set for it. I guess I'm confused about how to go from a DB to an actual scenario (I…

I have been playing the EC2003 Battle, Wrath for the IOPG now for nearly a week; I think I am on the 5th or 6th attempt. I am struggling to understand what I have to do to win. I have to launch maximum effort strikes against terrorist bases (ZZa, ZYa ZXa) Destroy C31 system as a prime target (ZVb) suppress air defense activity around Bandar Abbas (Ztb, ZOb) My first problem is that there is no ZZa, only a ZZb. Even if I destroy all the bases (assuming ZZa is really ZZb) and am in the process of attacking Ztb and ZOb, the loss of 12 planes triggers the enemy minimum win conditions. Is this a Kobayashi Maru, no win situation?

Specifically in the WestPac "Backyard" scenario, I quite frequently observe a minor oddity (that apparently has no adverse effect on game play) but may be some sort of indication of something getting hosed up. What happens every so often is that after a tanker a/c completes its refuelling and after the Split-off dialog has been approved, it displays the dialog for selecting the base for the tanker to return to - but the mileage to the first base (or bases, in some cases) is grossly incorrect. Yet in other instances, it seems to be correct. I'm attaching a game-save here, captured at the point that refueling was just started on Blue air group AWA. As this progres…

  11. This may or may not be obvious (or useful) to you, I often use the scenario editor and am frequently using it with non standard databases or going back over the previous scenario. You can open the scenario editor from Tony's "launcher" (in the downloads section if you haven't seen it) by overwriting "winharp32.exe" with "wscenedt.exe". You can make some of the selections such as battleset, scenario file and database. When you launch it (since the last update) you have saved all the settings from the last launch. To make it work well, copy the 'launcher.ini' file to another (any) folder, make a desktop (or other place) shortcut to the launcher.exe and call it scenario ed…

Due to the ongoing issues with formation-keeping, we won't be sending an official patch to Matrix Games for distribution before year end. Quality is not where we need it to be for an official release. Please keep reporting issues and helping us improve the game; the uptick in participation of late has been great.

  13. There are some aspects of the games AI that make certain tasks almost ridiculously easy, and I wonder how it might be changed to make it more challenging. For instance, your mission is to knock back the opposition of a heavily guarded base and destroy it. Send out an AEW plane, put some fighters with AMRAAMs out 30 or 40 miles ahead (between the base and your AEW bait), and make these recurring patrols so you always gave some fresh fighters with their AAMs. The enemy fighter patrols will, without exception, head straight for your AEW plane and right into your missile range. You can empty out their base of fighter defenses without ever doing anything more than refre…

In real life, you're supposed to drive ships with random zig-zags added to the course. Does this have any advantage in Harpoon? If not, it would be really tedious to put them in, given that the scale of a leg relative to the overall travel distances is quite small.
