As I've stated in the past, I'll put my personal experience in the Middle East up against that of any member of this group. In all my years working in Saudi Arabia, I found that there are many good folks there, but also some who seem to be in a perpetual state of looking for something to be offended by, especially over religious matters. A seemingly innocuous remark or action could rapidly escalate into someone being "Offended", and even more rapid unemployment. With this fact in mind, my initial employer decided to see that all hirees received training in the various aspects of society that could prove problematic. Hard as it may be for some Americans to accept, w…

  17. Source: Naval Open Source Intelligence - http://nosint.blogspot.com/2012/02/iran-ma...hip-cruise.html Here's something to read as you enjoy your breakfast and morning coffee! The Zafar missile, as it is dubbed in the report, "is a short-range, anti-ship cruise missile capable of destroying small- and medium-sized targets with high precision." It can be mounted on speed boats and other light vessels, can withstand electronic warfare, and is able to fly in low altitudes to avoid detection, the report said. (rmks: Zafar (or another cruise missile) was recently tested from a Wellington class ACV during the last round of naval exercises). FWFS, Greg Emers…

  20. Source: http://navaltoday.com/2012/01/25/fincantie...l-for-uae-navy/ Fincantieri shipyard at Muggiano recently launched the “Ganthoot”, the first of two stealth patrol vessels included in the “Falaj 2” program in progress for the United Arab Emirates Navy who ordered them in 2010. The ship, whose name comes from a geographical area in the Emirates in the neighbourhood of Abu Dhabi, will be delivered in the last half of 2012. A second will be built with an option for an additional two (which is likely to be acted upon). Specs are sketchy at this time, but they tout it will be a multi-mission platform. This will be something interesting to follow.
