I have a question regarding the deployment of the escorts in a CVBG especially during the Cold War days of the mid eighties, just at the time the AEGIS system was becoming operational. The way I understand it a carrier would be escorted with a few air defence cruisers and destroyers as well as ASW orientated ships like the Spruance class and frigates. Now, when a carrier turned into the wind and for example had to steam at 30 knots to conduct flight operations, how did that impact the escorts especially the ASW ships? At the last minute I was able to get time off from work and drive down to Lancaster, PA for the Cold Wars 2019 convention. There I met Larry Bond, Chris Carlson, Mike Harris, et al. I played Dawn of the Battleship with them on Friday, and Dance of the Vampires (abridged) on Saturday. Saturday they also gave a presentation on the Chinese navy and a closer look at the proposed air defense rule changes for H4.2. My favourite aircraft (solely based on childhood impressions) is either the Tornado or the F-15E Strike Eagle, depending on what day it is. For kicks i just worked through a comparison of an F-15 and an F-18 attacking a soviet Kresta to see what differences there would be, if any. The result was: there were lots of differences! Both the F-15 and F-18 approached the Kresta at Medium height. Hey everyone, Taking a second crack at getting into H4, and trying to get into the basic tutorial scenarios and can't get past filling out the darn Ship Ref. Sheet...this thing alone is taking me over an hour for one ship for the basic AAW scenario, how do y'all do it for a full CVBG and air wing?? Right now what's driving me crazy is figuring out how to fill in the Sfc guns and various sensor data. I'm trying to fill out an O.H. Hi The Sub is not known if the contact is found in a direct path or convergence zone. But an TMA solution is possible only in direct path, less than 20 nm. So, after a few rounds of contact without TMA solution, the Sub will know that the contact is in CZ. Am I right?

Do you think it is normal that CZ are not dependent on passive range? This means that a good sonar (BQG-5 WAA / LF-MF / 6 nm Passive Range) has the same number of CZ a bad sonar (AQS-22 / LF-MF / 1.5 nm Passive Range).

Todays foul weather coupled with my 40 minute commute that took 2.5 hours gave me plenty of time to think about All Weather Attack Squadrons. What a capability to launch, seek out, and attack an enemy while they are beset by such aweful weather. This is a post on HCE regarding the FREMM ASM towed sonar Captas and Sonar 2087... "I was lacking H4.1 data on both these sonars when they were created in the HCDB. If anyone has H4.1 data or suggested provisional data, I'd be glad to receive it." Does anyone have info on these? Thanks.

Hi, Here is a bug I found with SimPlot2 on Mac OSX. I created a custom map for a Falklands scenario which covers Falkland Islands and the Argentinian coast. This map works well on a PC, but when I sent the .txt and the .png files to a friend using His Mac, he complained about SimPlot2 crashing. Does each missile of a "raid" need to be detected in order for it to be engaged? In this engagement I played it yes. 4x very small signature, sea skimming RGM-84D's fired at a detected Sovremenny Type 956EM Destroyer at a range of 60nm. Initially two were detected, by the Mineral-ME 3D radar, at a range of 9.0nm and engaged by both Yozh mounts in the 2nd fire phase of an Engagement Turn. I halved the ROF to 3 missiles each mount. I believe this to be wrong but wanted to give the Sovremennyy a fighters chance. In the very next Movement Phase the 6x Grizzlies engage and destroy the 2 detected Harpoons. Attached is a pdf link in which there is a section devoted to discussing the operations the Argentine Type 209 SS "San Luis" during the Falklands War of 1982. Some take aways, aside from their technical fire control problems: Maneuvering to ranges of of 10,000 and 5,000 yards (5nm and 2.5nm respectively) for a torpedo attack. That is would take about 6.5 minutes for impact at the longer range. That both of his attacks apparently went undetected as they were not attacked in response. Regarding Initial conditions of a Dogfight: If a F-16a with a maneuver rating of 4.0 is dogfighting a Mig-23MF with a maneuver rating of 3.0, does the F-16 get to fire first, even though the Mig-23 has a speed advantage? In my test scenario: A F-16a had to maneuver to avoid a SARH missile attack from the Mig-23MF, thus reducing its speed to 350 knots. The Mig 23 was zipping along at 700 knots before the range closed to Dogfight range. Should I have added +2 to the Mig-23s maneuver rating due to speed when the dogfight began? Would use of an active jamming pod preclude the use of an anti-radiation missile from the same or co-located aircraft?

Can you confirm that ECM used against missiles ARH and Decoys used against missiles IRH? Nothing is mentioned in the rules.

Peter Grining (PG) was able to provide me with H4.1 compliant "3D" stats for the above radar set, but did not have any for "SS". Anybody have the Surface Search stats for a EL/M-2228 "Surveillance, Track And guidance Radar" set? This set was apparently installed on the Indian Navy's Type-16A Brahmaputra FF replacing the RAWS.03 when they also swapped out the failed, locally developed "Trihul" SAM for the Israeli Barak system.
