Okay, did a bunch of investigating on the suicide boat and found a workaround. If the Baka missile is given the Terminal Guidance flag then the player will be prompted to launch when within range. I assume Brad will make the change in a future HCDB but you can certainly make that change and verify my results before then.

Surely more than two of us have an opinion on this aspect of multiplayer? Speak up folks or I'll get everything I want and you'll have to live with it and grumble.

Thanks Don, I'll have a look!

Fair enough. How do you think multiple players on one side should be handled in the future? I was leaning towards a free-for-all where any player on the side could give orders to any and all units/groups. The staff assistant is a problem (which of the 3 Blue players gets the message from group ABa?) in that arrangement.

Thanks Warhorse! Do you (or anyone else) recall how the distribution of units was done? My recollection is that the first player to join each side was the 'controller' of that side. Was the distribution by group? Could the controller re-assign groups once the scenario started? Hah, 10 second minimum time compression, I like it!

  10. Can you elaborate on this one? I expect the F-35 one on one against F-16, F-15, F/A-18 will see the F-35 winning almost all of the time since the opposition won't even see the F-35 at AMRAAM range. Get in close and the F-35 has superior situational awareness and much lower pilot workload. Add in all of the networking abilities of F-35 combined with AEW birds and I think the F-35 starts to look even better. So I expect the F-35 will be very capable air to air. The big but is that I don't think it will have the huge margin of superiority over the newer Flankers, J-20, T-50, etc. Versus what we have now though I think the F-35 will compare very favorably air to air.

(thanks Don Thomas) http://harpgamer.com/harpforum/index.php?a...amp;showbug=203 - Chg:0000 GE First Sensor Export DLL, Visual sensor model. I'd be interested to see some rough benchmarks of speed of the game with and without ExportDLLs\SensorVisualH3.dll in place. In this build if the DLL isn't in place, the built-in Visual sensor model is used (they are identical functionally but I'm wondering about the overhead of calling the DLL).
  13. I think they are awesome and I love the animations! But as nasty as copyright law may be, I'm not seeing help lining up to make new line drawings (not to mention I'd have to make a line drawing tool). Or you can use Rene's shipbucket line drawings.
  14. My advice is to not be afraid, those are 'normal' errors.

I don't think you are doing anything wrong (well, past joining planes from one group to another, that I consider wrong). Can you zip a saved game and attach it to a reply here with instructions on which group to try to split planes from? Thanks Tony

Good call Don, I was just going through that with Brad on IRC yesterday commenting that in original GUIK the Perry does have a tail and the Tico and Sprus don't (strange).

Keep at it Dale, HC needs a new UI too but most players don't realize it . Making the UI open source would open up some possibilities since most of the applicable code-bases for 3D spherical Earth interfaces are open source. The commercial ones I'm sure you've seen are too expensive unless MilSim can really land a lucrative licensing deal that would allow commercial distribution of STK (I cannot even fathom how that would ever be possible). I still flirt now and again with using Google Earth itself as the map interface but I always end up limited by the number of objects that can be rendered effectively (one really has to abstract the view as you zoom out from unit to group to task groups to... and I don't like that). On the HC side unfortunately the person who created the globe components I liked has disappeared and some key bugs are as yet beyond me to remedy. Hehe, so I guess you hit it right, unless someone who really likes Harpoon drops a number of millions of dollars on our heads the process will be excruciatingly slow.

Source: Usenet Date: 1995/05/22 Hundreds of times faster and zippier machines and still we want to make bigger scens. How's that 32-bit HC SE coming along Tony? btw, 32-bit SE is a long ways away, my regular coding is almost entirely focused on the multi-sided expansion, the SE will come after that, probably long after it since allowing larger scenarios is the best reason I've heard since virtualization got drop-dead easy!
  21. Does that mean you guys can use the image? Sorry I am kind of dumb when it comes to copyright law and I don't like them much. The creative commons attribution license allows for commercial use of images with that license type. http://creativecommons.org/licenses/ As for the GNU Free Documentation license I really don't know exactly how it applies here! In particular I don't know how we need to present the images under this license in order to legally use them nor do I know if they can be used legally in a closed-source product. The one saving grace may be the PE unpacking the images back to .bmp files that the player could further modify.
  22. Warhorse, are you using a web-safe 256-color palette or something, I think you could have a more optimized palette. You don't need to use a web-palette or include Windows colors. I'm getting results more like the attached. Abrams.bmp
  23. I'm liking the effort . Hopefully I can take an entry or two you've made and format them in a Brad-friendly way and then you two can duke it out on distribution of work.

    1. My understanding was that we could have multiple players on the same side, i.e. 3 Blue players, was that correct? 2. How were staff assistant messages presented? Were the queued up and presented only every 15 or 30 seconds? If there were 3 Blue players did all three players get all of the messages? How did all of that flow? That's it for now, thansk!

Back in the day, like many of you, I played Harpoon OnLine but I didn't have enough money to play the paid, just the pre-pre-release . Unfortunately my memory of the actual gameplay is foggy and my current coding efforts are running across some of the items that any multiplayer HC would face. So if you have the answers I'd most like to have my memory refreshed!
