Guatemala only has a small air force and a very small navy (a few patrol boats) but it might be involved in disputes in Central America. (Among other things, as I understand it, they have sometimes claimed that Belize should be part of Guatemala.) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Military_of_Guatemala http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guatemalan_Air_Force 1. The country should be added to the country menus in the scenario editor 2. Country-appropriate platforms in the database should be linked to that country, with dates of service, etc. 3. As time allows, country-specific platforms or country-specific variations on existing platforms should be added to the database. Thanks! ANW HUD 4 v1.1 b10

Ghana has a small air force and a small navy, the latter featuring some new patrol boats purchased from China. While it would not be able to carry out major naval operations at present, it might be involved in anti-piracy operations or similar scenarios. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ghana_Armed_Forces http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ghana_Air_Force http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ghana_Navy 1. 3. While the DRC has almost no navy, it does have a small air force that includes Su-25 Frogfoots and other light attack aircraft. It also appears to have a couple of MiG-23 and some attack helicopters. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Air_Force_of_the_Democratic_Republic_of_the_Congo 1. The country should be added to the country menus in the scenario editor 2. Country-appropriate platforms in the database should be linked to that country, with dates of service, etc. 3. Gabon might get overlooked by some people, but it could be a good element in a small or medium-sized scenario. Wtih one missile boat, several patrol vessels, and an air force that includes Mirage F-1s and Alpha jets, this is country that could do some serious damage to poorly equipped (or poorly prepared) opponents. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Military_of_Gabon 1. The country should be added to the country menus in the scenario editor 2. Country-appropriate platforms in the database should be linked to that country, with dates of service, etc. 3. Fiji has a very small navy, but it does include half-a-dozen patrol boats with machine guns, etc. I could see it being part of a scenario involving a multi-national operation (peacekeeping, anti-piracy, etc.) in West Pacific waters. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Republic_of_Fiji_Military_Forces 1. The country should be added to the country menus in the scenario editor 2. Country-appropriate platforms in the database should be linked to that country, with dates of service, etc. 3. El Salvador could easily be involved in low level Central American conflicts. A number of countries are missing from the database. This post requests the addition of Chad. True, but I think Herman doesn't realize I'm really not talking to him. Every time he slams on the HUD-4, I will just say, "Well, that's your opinion and you have a right to it; I'm just saying people should try it out for themselves and make up their own minds." So I'm just planting the seed of "Hmm...maybe I should try the HUD-4," which is really all one can do--if people try it and like it, they will use it, and probably nothing Herman says will matter very much. If they don't like it, nothing I say about it will matter very much. The issue is simply getting them to see the HUD-4 as an option, getting them interested in trying it out, etc. I'm guessing that most people who try the HUD-4 will like it enough to see it as a good option and they will keep using it. They may still use the PDB for some scenarios, also, but at least now they will use the HUD-4, too.

A number of countries are missing from the database. This post requests the addition of Armenia. I think I'm making him crazy. He does not seem to realize that our argument boils down to... Herman: I hate the HUD-4! It's full of errors! Don't waste your time on it! Mark: I like the HUD-4. Try it out. There is no risk. If you like it, you can keep using it. If you don't like it, you can stop using it. I can't make Herman change his mind and/or stop lying if he is lying, but he can't make me change my mind and he can't keep me from ignoring the illogical, incendiary, and/or insulting statements he makes (he invoked Linsdey Lohan in one of the threads) and he can't keep me from simply saying, "Look, I like the HUD-4. Give it a try. What have you got to lose?" There is nothing he can do against that kind of argument. And if I get people to try the HUD-4 and they like it, I win. And they win, too.

Just started a thread at Armchair General... http://www.armchairg...ad.php?t=128938 ...so that's one more place where we can spread the word about the HUD-4, announce scenarios, etc. Again, my goal is to not argue with people. I'm not trying to prove the HUD-4 is a better database or anything like that. I'm sticking with facts that cannot be argued--I like the HUD-4, I use it to write scenarios, I have very few problems when I use it, and I hope other people will try it out and I hope they will like it. And please, everyone, write more scenarios! The more scenarios we have here at harpgamer, the more reason people will have to give the HUD-4 a try and maybe stick with it. And the more fun we will have.

He is at it again. As you can see, my approach is to not engage him directly. I am not going to argue with him. I am simply going to stick to my own experience with the HUD-4 database, which has been very good, and suggest that people should try it for themselves and see if they like it, too. I really don't understand his claim that the HUD-4 crashes all the time. That simply does not happen to me when I am playing the game.

Tensions between the Ukraine and its neighbors in the Black Sea region, allied Bulgaria and Romania, have reached a crisis point. Intelligence suggests that the Ukraine plans a massive attack against Bulgaria, focusing on its merchant fleet and the port city of Varna. Can Bulgaria, with the assistance of its ally Romania, defeat this threat? 18. I had a crazy thought... Why not have a competition for small scenario designs for the HUD-4? Each round would have some general rules but some room for creativity--e.g., "A French task force with two warships and one light combatant vs. two groups of three or four gun boats and/or missile boats, anywhere in the world." Or, "A German convoy with two warships and six merchants must make an opposed passage against a nation with one destroyer-sized ship and 6-12 aircraft to use against them." In each case, we're talking relatively small scenarios, with each side having only a few vessels and/or about a dozen aircraft. Designers have 24 hours to produce the scenario. The goal is to put together a nice, challenging smaller scenario, and to do it QUICKLY. Folks get a week to try them out and cast their votes. The scenarios are rated both for playability and for the plausibility of the story. That way there is fast turnaround for the designers to get feedback. The winner gets...well...bragging rights. Or maybe the right to set up the next round of the competition? We would need at least two people willing to compete in each round. And we would need someone to set up the basic situation for each round. Thoughts? Observations?

Now we need some new scenarios to tell people about...
