Platforms for Operation Trident (1971)
No rush on this, but would it possible to add the platforms (and/or loadouts) for the ships and submarines involved in Operation Trident (1971 Indian-Pakistani War)? It might be interesting to recreate those battles someday. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Tri...akistani_War%29 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Python This would include the Vidyut class missile boats (already requested), and the Arnala class (Indian designation for Petya III class vessels--is this different enough from the Project 159 platforms already in the database to need a separate database listing?). On the Pakistani side, ships included the PNS Shah Jahan (a C-class destroyer, see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/C_class_destroyer_%281943%29 for details) and PNS Muhafiz (an Adjutant-class minesweeper) and PNS Khaibar (HMS Cadiz (D79), a Battle-class destroyer of the Royal Navy. She was transferred to the Pakistan Navy in 1956). I checked but I don't think any of these are currently in the HUD-4, although it is possible I missed them. ANW HUD 4 v1.1 b10

Vidyut class missile boat http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vidyut_class_missile_boat "The Vidyut class missile boats of the Indian Navy were an Indian variant of the Soviet Osa I class. These vessels formed the illustrious 25th "Killer" Missile Boat Squadron, which sunk 2 destroyers, a minesweeper and various other vessels of the Pakistan Navy during the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971." --Wikipedia (I learned something new today. The Indian navy re-uses hull numbers. Do you have any idea how confusing it is when there are two similar classes of ships built pretty much right after one another and they BOTH have a "Veer"--K 40 and K 82, respectively, and the latter is actually the lead boat in the Vidyut class but I guess they did not want to call BOTH classes the Veer class? Wow. I'm sure the Indians had a good reason for doing this, but it seems really confusing to me.) ANW HUD 4 v1.1 b10

Damen Stan 4207 patrol vessel
Damen Stan 4207 patrol vessel http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Damen_Stan_4207_patrol_vessel This is actually a cluster of closely related classes of patrol vessel, which is being used or will be used by about a dozen different countries. Scenario Scope
You can create great scenarios at any scale, but I suspect medium and large ones are easier to make satisfying than small or epic ones. Small ones sometimes end up being a lot of waiting and watching and then BAM! it's over. Epic ones can be unwieldy, and it I suspect it is harder to make the AI a challenging opponent unless it has huge advantages in numbers or really simple instructions. If any hard decisions have to be made mid-way through the scenario, such as a major change in tactics, the AI does not seem designed to handle that very well. In other words, the "sweet spot" is probably something between a small task force of ships and/or subs and/or a squadron of aircraft (or the land-based equivalent) on each side and a full carrier battle group, perhaps with a convoy or two or another task force, and its air wing (or the land-based equivalent) on each side. When you start getting into the range of three or four carrier battle groups and several hundred aircraft (or the land-based equivalent) on each side, I suspect it does not work as well. I don't know, of course, because I haven't written anything for H3/ANW on that scale yet. I did write one Classic scenario some years ago that was "epic" ("War Gods in Hell") and that worked out pretty well, I think, but the Red side had very simple instructions--shoot at the Blue guys until they die or decide to run away. I suppose one way to handle an epic scenario would be to "chunk" it into separate scenarios. Instead of three carrier groups facing three huge air bases, make it three scenarios with each carrier group facing one air base (and a few elements from the others, just to keep people guessing) separately.

Ilyushin Il-62
Ilyushin Il-62 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ilyushin_Il-62 This aircraft and the Il-18 were widely used by various military forces as a transport, VIP transport, etc. (I noticed it when I was looking up information on Gambia.) "The Ilyushin Il-62 (NATO reporting name Classic) is a Soviet long-range jet airliner conceived in 1960 by Ilyushin. As successor to the popular turbo-prop Il-18 and with capacity for almost 200 passengers, the Il-62 was the largest jet airliner when it first flew in 1963. It entered Aeroflot service on 15 September 1967 with an inaugural passenger flight from Moscow to Montreal....Over 30 nations operated the Il-62 with more than 80 being exported and others leased by Russian-sphere and Western airlines. Special VIP (salon) and other conversions were also developed." --Wikipedia ANW HUD 4 v1.1 b10

Ilyushin Il-18
Ilyushin Il-18 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ilyushin_Il-18 "The Ilyushin Il-18 (NATO reporting name: Coot) is a large turboprop airliner that became one of the best known Soviet aircraft of its era as well as one of the most popular and durable, having first flown in 1957 and still being in civilian use 55 years later. The Il-18 was one of the world's principal airliners for several decades and was widely exported. Due to the aircraft's airframe durability, many achieved over 45,000 flight hours. The Il-18's successor was the long range Il-62 jet airliner." --Wikipedia One variant was the Il-20M Coot-A, "ELINT electronic, radar reconnaissance version. Battle of Haiphong Harbor--Platforms?
Thanks, Gunny. What you're doing makes perfect sense. It does not take long to rebuild just one scenario with the auto-rebuilt set-up in the scenario editor, but having to do it for a lot of scenarios every couple of weeks would be a hassle. I'm writing my scenarios with the beta 10 version of v1.1 because troops are enabled, but it's stable enough I don't think it will create problems for people who want to try it out before the 3.11 release. Just an idea...I know this helps me sometimes with large projects...would it make sense to set up a regular schedule for the HUD-4 (e.g., there will be a new beta/version release four times a year, once every three months) so people know when the next one is expected, etc.? In any event, thanks again and enjoy your vacation. (I understand people in France normally have about six weeks off every summer...very civilized idea, I think...) Mark

Battle of Haiphong Harbor--Platforms?
In 1972, a short naval battle was fought between American and North Vietnamese forces. To recreate this battle in the HUD, we should add the following platforms (with 1972 loadouts...would they be similar to 1980 loadouts?), if they are not already available... USS Newport News (CA-148) <-- I don't think we have this one http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Newport_News_%28CA-148%29 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Des_Moines_class_heavy_cruiser USS Providence (CL-82) <-- I don't think we have this one http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Providence_%28CLG-6%29 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cleveland_class_cruiser USS Rowan (DD-782) <-- Is this in the database? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Rowan_%28DD-782%29 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gearing_class_destroyer USS Robison (DDG-12) <-- the Adams is already in the HUD, but is the 1980 loadout similar enough to the 1972 loadout? Can it be modeled simply by swapping out default weapons for other magazine/mounted weapon possibilities in the existing database platform using the logistics control in Harpoon? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Coral_Sea_%28CV-43%29 <-- Midway class is already in the HUD...are any changes from that version necessary for a 1972 version of the Coral Sea? As far as I know, the Russian craft were Osa Is or Osa IIs, so that will not tbe hard to model; I know they are in the database. ANW HUD 4 v1.1 b10
