August 8, 201213 yr In 1972, a short naval battle was fought between American and North Vietnamese forces. To recreate this battle in the HUD, we should add the following platforms (with 1972 loadouts...would they be similar to 1980 loadouts?), if they are not already available... USS Newport News (CA-148) <-- I don't think we have this one http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Newport_News_%28CA-148%29 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Des_Moines_class_heavy_cruiser USS Providence (CL-82) <-- I don't think we have this one http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Providence_%28CLG-6%29 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cleveland_class_cruiser USS Rowan (DD-782) <-- Is this in the database? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Rowan_%28DD-782%29 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gearing_class_destroyer USS Robison (DDG-12) <-- the Adams is already in the HUD, but is the 1980 loadout similar enough to the 1972 loadout? Can it be modeled simply by swapping out default weapons for other magazine/mounted weapon possibilities in the existing database platform using the logistics control in Harpoon? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Coral_Sea_%28CV-43%29 <-- Midway class is already in the HUD...are any changes from that version necessary for a 1972 version of the Coral Sea? As far as I know, the Russian craft were Osa Is or Osa IIs, so that will not tbe hard to model; I know they are in the database. ANW HUD 4 v1.1 b10
August 8, 201213 yr Will be for later, for 2 reasons: -1) as I said earlier, HUD4 1.1 's development is stopped until Harpoon ANW 3.11 is out to help those who rebuild scens not to have to do this hasty process every 2 weeks -2) HUD4 v 1.11 is on the tracks, but from today until next week, I take a short break and I'll be away from computers. FG Thanks, Gunny. What you're doing makes perfect sense. It does not take long to rebuild just one scenario with the auto-rebuilt set-up in the scenario editor, but having to do it for a lot of scenarios every couple of weeks would be a hassle. I'm writing my scenarios with the beta 10 version of v1.1 because troops are enabled, but it's stable enough I don't think it will create problems for people who want to try it out before the 3.11 release. Just an idea...I know this helps me sometimes with large projects...would it make sense to set up a regular schedule for the HUD-4 (e.g., there will be a new beta/version release four times a year, once every three months) so people know when the next one is expected, etc.? In any event, thanks again and enjoy your vacation. (I understand people in France normally have about six weeks off every summer...very civilized idea, I think...) Mark
August 8, 201213 yr Mark, You're lucky, all platforms I've found in my documents. It's just a matter of converting data for me now. A quick check on already existing platforms shows that I'll need to create copies of it since there were no Harpoons in the 70es... As for the planned releases of HUD4 next iterations, I was thinking about it, a new version every month should be the right pace. Sometimes (because real life always gives unexpected events) it will be more or less time. vacations here are 8 weeks for pupils, 7 for teachers, and 5 for public servants who aren't teachers. It goes damn fast anyway, already having upcoming year in sight. FG
