  1. While my local library did not have what I was looking for, a neighboring town's library did, so I was able to score some table time with The Naval Institute Guide to World Military Aviation 1997-1998. Within, it had a section on the SEPCAT Jaguar: 2x 30mm DEFA 553 cannon with 150 rounds per gun. Five stores stations for a maximum external load of 4,765kg. Centerline and inboard wing pylons have a limit of 1,134kg. The outerwing pylons have a limits of 567kg. While I was "playing" "British" Jaguars the book outlines those in typical "French" service included potential loadouts of: Centerline: Drop Tank Outboard Stations: Chaff Dispenser / ECM Pod Inboard Stations: either 4x 250kg GP Bombs or 2x Baluga CBU. Centerline: either 18x BAP 100 Runway Cratering Bombs or 18x BAT 120 Anti Armor Bombs Outboard Stations: Chaff Dispense / ECM Pod Inboard Stations: Drop Tanks For Precision Strike: Centerline: Martin Marietta (ATLIS or ELIAS) Target TV Acquisition & Laser Designator Pod, and either 2x Laserguided Bomb or AS30 L AGM Inboard: Drop Tanks Tactical Reconnaissance (Jaguar A) Centerline: RP36 Pod w/ 3x Omera 40 Cameras (1x Forward, and 2x Oblique)
  2. Because I'm familiarizing myself with the "new" dogfighting rules. I'm sure they could have BVR'd them at will. Warhorse64, et al. In order to give it a try I allowed 2x F-14A’s, cued by AEW support, to engage 6x MiG-21MF Fishbed J’s with their 4x AIM-54A each “at range” (<=60nm). 2x AIM-54A’s failed their lunch roll. 1x AIM-54A hit, destroying a MiG. 5x AIM-54A missed their target outright. Then followed the dogfight similar to the other night, however now primarily fought by the Tomcats with AIM-7M (2 per F-14) and MiG’s were still attempting gun shots. In two minutes/rounds of dog fighting, all four AIM-7M’s were expended for no gain. I think that the MiG’s are still rolling for hits (no hits during the time frame here) So far, 2x F-14A and 5x MiG-21MF’s are zipping around the fir ball with the F-14A’s looking to perhaps attempt to leave the fight as they are down to their last four total AIM-9L’s. 4. Last night's action - Three experienced Indian AA-12 armed MiG-21bis UPG with Helmet Mounted Sight vs. three competent Pakistani Sidewinder armed (AIM-9L and AIM-9P) F-16A/B (Block15). MiG-21bis UPG manual rating: 3.5; 3rd Generation Jammers & Decoys. F-16 manual rating: 4.0; 2nd Generation Decoys. Generation 4 AA-12 ATA: 8.0 Generation 2 AIM-9L ATA: 4.0 In the end, the Pakistani’s get position and shoot with AIM-9L pK of .10. The Indians return fire with AA-12 pK of .60. The first minute (round) has 2x Falcons shot down at no cost to the Indians. The second minute (round) was a lot of jockeying for position as the 3x MiGs were now competing with each other for “the shot” while the Pakistani was trying to stay alive looking for his chance to skedaddle. In the third and final minute of this dogfight, the valiantly fighting Pakistani was finally overwhelmed by the three Indian MiG’s. This day went to the Indian Air Force.
  5. The F-14A's 20mm Vulcan has a cannon ATA of 4.0. The MiG-21MF Fishbed J's GSh-23 has a cannon ATA of 2.0. The F-14A has the first shot due to its maneuver rating being higher than the MiG's, 4.0 to 3.5. As it turned out tonight, the F-14A declared an AIM-54A missile attack, but failed the missile failure roll. The MiG missed its gun shot. In the second minute of the dogfight (round) the F-14 pickles of another AIM-54A which impacts the MiG. Using 8.2.1 Combat Damage, the MiG suffers Heavy Damage. I'd assume that the pilot bailed out.
  6. Ok it is an F-14A, 37 damage points, 4x AIM-54A, 2x AIM-7M, and AIM-9E versus an Mig-21MF Fishbed J, 18 damage points, and 4x R-3R AA-2c Advanced Atolls. And while the Mig's GP-9 Gun Pack GSh-23 has a 20% pH, it is only a pK of 5%. Looks like a lot of circling around waiting for a tone.
  7. Well I decided to re-familiarize myself with the "new" trilogy air rules, and after soliciting aircraft and pilot competencies on irc last night, first up is mid to late 70's F-14A vs MiG-21 (exact model I'll post later), both pilots "experienced). After doing some caluclation today during lunch I was very surprised in that the the MiG's AA-2c Improved Atoll had no effect versus the F-14, and that the F-14's AIM-54C had only a .14 Pk. If it survives as the F-14 moves first given its speed advantage, the MiG resorts to its internal gun which provides for the best chance for a hit at .20. Should get a handful of "dogfights" in tonight. Would like to add some of the conditional modifiers like surprise, head on attacks, tail attacks, etc.

Correction: RWR only alerts the pilots to attacks from radar guided weapons, not search radar. My bad.

Thanks Tony. By the way is that an RC carrier flight deck below the table to the right?
  10. Hi KC, 6.3.4.1.1 Dive Bombing only prohibits dive bombing from "Very Low" as the rules add with a bit of levity, "...not really prohibited, but the last ops officer to brief a VLow dive bombing attack got stuffed up a relief tube..." I often get wrapped up with the band names and what they infer yet the Low Band does extend from 329 to 6,562 feet (101-2000m). Jaguars...just a recent kick. The last evolution with the F-15E seemed to give too much stand-off for the local air defense to have any chance at countering. Realistic perhaps, but not as much fun attempting to game out, so I dialed the technology back some. As it was short ranged, I dispensed with the mission planning process. I did engagement turns throughout the attack. I also would post as you did if it were any longer in duration or if I wanted people to comment on my mechanics. Keep 'em coming.
  11. Today's attack consisted on a strike against a suspected enemy brigade hq. 2x Jaguar GR.1, each loaded with 2x BL175 CBU and 2x Mk82 500 lb bombs. Target an enemy brigade headquarters, an assortment of bermed tentage and a handful of vehicles, all cammied up. I gave the HQ the equivilent of a reveted aircraft position...15DP. Defense were 2x Bofors 40mm/L70 (without RA) and a SA-7 Strela Team. Began with IP 8nm from suspected HQ. At range of 1.7nm HQ spotted. Ground forces also spot the attacking aircraft. Jags at 600kts (FMP), in Low Altitude Band, each drop two BL175's via horizontal laydown "small pattern". First time utilizing Cluster Bombs in a while so revisited 6.3.4.1.5 Cluster Bombs. This causes resolving as Dive Bomb - Medium Altitude. Single Bomb: .27. 1 Hit: 47, 2 Hits: 7. All four miss. Both Bofors fire short range at crossing target (1/2) and RA capable in OP (1/2). Both miss. SA-7 fires and misses. Janguars 2nd Generation Decoys played a roll here. Undetered from their mission, the Jag pilots reach down and grab ahold, bank around to re-attack, this time dive bombing with 2x Mk82 each, from Low. Lead scores a hit, Dash2 scores two hits. 51 total DP's. Enemy HQ is plastered. Bofors each fire again and miss again, as does the SA-7 team. Jaguar pilots wing for home after a successful mission.
  12. Typo...500 feet...approximately 152m. Sorry for the confusion.
  13. Misread the multi bomb stick table. Don't have the exact numbers anymore but there would have been plenty more hits.
  14. 2x Jaguar GR.1 with 8x Mk83 each are tasked with a strike on an observed ammunition dump located a couple hundred meters northwest of an intersection. Target area is defended by a battery of Bofor 40mm/L70 with a Fly Catcher FCR. The Jags started from their IP which is 10nm from the target, at 650kts and 300 feet or about 150m in the Low Altitude Ban. The aircraft speed and attack geometry had the Jags dropping their bombs prior to being engaged by the bofors battery. Lead completely missed and Dash2 got two hits for 80DP. An arbitrary DP total of 100 for the ammo dump left the attack causing .8 damage and a die roll of 4 provided for a critical hit status on the dump. The 14 bombs that miss all land about 50 yards short and to the right. Randomly rolling for the bofors, two are within short range and two are in far distance, two others are outside of their 2nm effective range (presumably defending the intersection as well). Three of the four shots are considered "crossing targets". The two close hit, the two distant miss. Using 8.1.3 Aircrew Survival and 8.2 Aircraft Damage, Lead has suffered light damage, and Dash2 has been shot down. Dash2 is successfully rescued. Lead's damage is progressive however and he is forced to ditch while returning to base. He too is rescued. Lead will be returned to duty in 5 cycle (1 and 2/3 day) while Dash2 will be grounded for 7 days.
  15. Well, now with a better idea of the targeting capbilities of the F-15E as revealed in the APG-70 thread, I got that "plinking" feeling today after running two strikes of just the F-15E vs Crotale portion of your strike. Presuming it was a "pre-planned" mission, the F-15E's had a graphic on the target area at between 37-40nm. Actually gaming from 10nm out (IP Ingress), the LANTIRN was cued by the APG-70 and lazed the target at 8.3nm. The Crotale acquired the strike inside 9.1nm, but cannot engage until max 5.5nm. F-15E's launched in the reation fire phase of the first Engagement Turn. This may not be legal per the rules, pretty certain that it is not, but in the spirit of a pre-planned mission I allowed it...plus it was aweful warm in my car during lunch today Post launch movement of the F-15E's was turning left to skirt the outside of the Croate envelope yet shallow enough of a turn to maintain the target in the aircrafts Forward Arc (270 degrees) believing that is all it takes to allow the targeting pod to maintain LOS. Both run-thoughs had a crotale vehicle eating an AGM-65E. I would randomly roll to see if I in fact got a launcher (.80) or the CCU (.20). Will like to try this with a somewhat less-capable strike aircraft, or have some F-16C/D do the anti-air suppression mission while the Strike Eagles go after a more significant target. Comments please.
  16. I'd say you're getting a real nice warble tone. Onward and upward, or so the flyboys say...so I heard.
  17. Thanks Brad and Warhorse. Here is my response to the responses here and those over on Yahoo Group - Admiralty Trilogy. So in H4.1 terms, a section of F-15E's on a pre-planned attack mission in its most basic form will fly to the general target area. By the time it is to its Initial Point about 10nm away, it should already be able to gained a map/image of the target (bridge, supply dump, assembly area) and when they begin their attack run the APG-70 will cue the LANTIRN, or Sniper, Targeting Pod to allow for an attack the target once the aircraft are in that specific weapon's (say a Maverick AGM) attack envelope. Am I tracking now?
  18. It's a start Warhorse. I appreciate it.
  19. Does the APG-70's SAR/ISAR characteristics allow for target classification the moment of it's detection? If so, this appears to give such an aircraft quite a bit of standoff in relation to its other detection assets such as LANTIRN and FLIR. Based on a detection/classification by SAR/ISAR, I'd assume that the aircraft would then attempt to best position itself to effectively employ its weapons within those weapon's particular envelopes and other guidance parameters. Would the APG-70 hand over such target information to the LANTIRN Pod so that the pod would be cued to those targets. Thanks
  20. I agree that 10min Intermediate Turns can be put aside for now. Back to the 30 second Tactical Turn. Presume I'm following this correctly. If orders are given to specific platforms during a turn's plotting phase, is the game clock stopped at this point? As Tony mentioned should the orders being implemented from the previous turn's plotting phase? Would there be a finite amount of pltting phase (game-clocked stopped time) to give orders? If "order changes" can be given during "real time" will there be a built in delay for that orders implementation?
  21. I will have to get back to you tomorrow at the earliest as I only have my 4.1 with me today and once I get home...anniversary today...no gaming.

I do believe that to be the case. Someone else here should be able to elaberate.
  23. I posted a request for some elaboration over on the Yahoo Admiralty Trilogy Group and Mr. Brooks Rowlett offered something to the effect of that the profile was designed for nuclear weapon delivery, and in in the conventional mode the chance of the bombs colliding and imapcting their trajectory is too great. All I do know is that will be my first and only attempt at Lob-Toss in H4.1.
  24. A little digital motivation
  25. Wow, never conducted a lob-toss attack before and kinda know why. My Tornado GR.4, although it carried 8x Mk83 it does appear to be limited to releasing only a single bomb in the Lob Toss Attack rule. I will offer my ranges based upon Smarter Radar and the evironmental effects. Tornado would be able to attempt detection of the "small" Type 42 destroyer at 38.3nm and the Type 42 could only attempt to detect the "large" Tornado at 6.5nm. My caluclations are spelled out in a message above this one. It would actually be 2.7nm per each Engagement Turn Movement Phase (1st and 2nd). My Tornado is undetected, even failing in its attempts to detect the destroyer. My clock began at 1500 and a distance of 50nm. The destroyer was detected at 1504.0. The range at that point was 9.4nm. At 1504.5 the range was 4.0nm. In the 1st fire Phase, the Tornado conducted a lob toss of 1x Mk83. Using Dive Bomb Low Altitude Chart, and cross referencing the Advanced Bomb Sight and Small Target, the Ph is as you calculated 33%. The lob toss Ph is then modified by *.15 reducing the pH to 5%, Not Good. The rain effect the Pd of radar, not the Ph of the attack. Laser Guided Bombs are not negatively modified in Lob Toss, only restriction is that the launcher cannot self-designate. Since there was rain, the GR.4's FLIR cannot provide for passive Terrain Following so my Experienced Pilot had to successfully roll on the unmodified VLow/NOE Crash Table. I'll see if I can try again later with the GR.4 coming in at Low. It will definitely increase the detection chances of the Type 42's Radar 965M and make it a little more dicey for the Tornado. Perhaps he'll bring some friends this time. No rolling on the crash table. I'll look for more benefits and comment later. Yes, but the other AS radar on the Type 42 is blah. Pete
