I always defer to our resident database versioning and code guru, Tony, but if you aren't saving your own DB under a separate name, it will automatically be overwritten when you substitute the newly updated commondb file. There is no way to merge the two DB's and you can only use one DB at a time. My best suggestion (again deferring to Tony) is to keep separate filenames so your own DB isn't lost.

Mark, The SA365F Dauphin 2 is the armed version flown by at least France, Bahrain and Saudi Arabia. It has ASuW and ASW loadouts. If you would like other variants of the Dauphin included, I can look at this, as long as they don't require building any new loadouts. Oh, and the Panther is also already in there.

Addressing some previous requests ... I don't think I have enough info on this program just yet, but I would be pleased to accept whatever you can dredge up. Hmm, I don't recall hearing anything about a third French Horizon. Are you sure ? Are you referring to the joint French-Italian FREMM (Frégates Européenne Multi-Missions) program ? More details have emerged since the contract signature this past November, enough to probably merit DB entries. Not quite enough info yet. I'm keeping an eye on it, though. Yeah, service entry is still some ways off, but there are probably enough details floating around now. Ditto for the Malaysian Scorpenes. Are you talking about the Eilat (Sa'ar V) class ? These are already in the HCDB. I will look at this.

I'm sure the French would love to sell them some Scorpenes. Might get a good price too now that the design has had some decent export success.

Predator or Prey A new HCCE scenario for the Westpac Battleset (RED side) Having taken responsibility for its own defence, and in the face of increased dialogue and openness on the part of the North, the Republic of Korea has tacitly encouraged the departure of US troops on the Korean Peninsula. Responsibilities elsewhere have accelerated this redeployment and reshaped the American presence from a military force into a wholly diplomatic delegation. An end to the decades old stand-off between the two Koreas appears imminent, and yet something is not quite right about this new atmosphere of peace and reunification. Key anti-Communist legislation was recently dismantled in Seoul, and regular military exercises with the Americans have been called off this year due to financial pressures. Get Your Goat A new HCCE scenario for EC2003 Mediterranean Battleset (RED side) Relations between Spain and Morocco deteriorated after the departure of the Socialist government in Madrid, re-opening numerous old wounds. A brief but anxious confrontation in July 2002 had failed to resolve a longstanding quarrel over certain disputed territories in the Strait of Gibraltar, principally among them Leila (called Isla Perejil in Spain), Ceuta and Melilla. Morocco now claimed sovereignty over all three areas, declaring that Spain should be satisfied enough with its claim to the Canary Islands. In reply, Spain has renewed a permanent military presence at Ceuta that had not existed there since 1960, asserting not only its 400 year old territorial claim but also contending it had a "responsibility" to guard the region against illegal immigrants, smugglers and terrorists who might exploit the strategic value of the Strait of Gibraltar. NATO and the EU, pre-occupied with a host of their own problems, declared the matter a bilateral dispute and refused to intervene. The Arab League, however, already exasperated with perceived European insensitivities to Arab issues, pledged vigorous support for Morocco's claim. Notable among these advocates was Algeria. Relations between Morocco and Algeria had improved significantly after the two nations were able to reach an agreement regarding the Talsint oil field and the issue of Western Saharan separatism. Good news, folks. Tony has found a way to rectify the hcompress problem that we were experiencing with the Platform Editor (PE). And, as a result, we've got a new HCDB for ya. A new version of the Harpoon Classic Commander's Edition (HCCE) Database (HCDB-060207) is available. I haven't had any problems running it, though I do realize some of these latest scenarios have been demanding. I'm running a 3.2GHz with 1GB of RAM.

The problem appears to lie with the hcompress tool, part of the PE, and not the HCDB. That said, I have no idea when AGSI might get around to fixing it.

The HCDB and the DB used by AGSI are non-affiliated. So, if you want Kadena AB to appear in the HCCE release, you'll have to talk to AGSI. Meanwhile, if the hcompress problem is fixed, I can certainly look at adding Kadena to the HCDB. Space in the Installations annex is extremely limited, but I will certainly consider it.

From Jane's RN launches first Type 45 destroyer By Katy Glassborow, JNI Reporter The first-of-class of the UK Royal Navy’s (RN’s) Type 45 anti-air warfare (AAW) destroyers, HMS Daring, was launched today at the BAE Systems shipyard at Scotstoun on the Clyde, Scotland. When the eight planned destroyers begin to enter service in 2009, they will provide the RN with an advanced AAW capability, particularly pertinent as the service is phasing out its FA.2 Sea Harriers this year. As such, the Type 45’s will provide a much needed air-defence capability against missiles and enemy aircraft, using such technology as the Sampson radar. Slippage of the original in-service date of 2000 has meant the service lives of the RN’s ageing Type 42 destroyers had to be extended. The vessels are being built by BAE Systems and Vosper Thornycroft, with second-of-class HMS Dauntless scheduled to be launched in 2007.

I know where you're coming from. In all seriousness, though, it really was my intention that the Israelis avoid bombing the heck out of the Iranian military infrastructure. The focus of the mission is the nuclear plants. Attacking these are dangerous enough in the sense of risking retaliation, but destroying other facilities would risk a wider conflict. When I produce a v2 version of this scenario, fixing some bugs, I will make this element of the ROE more clear in the Orders as well as address issues such as emptying the arsenal of precision guided munitions.

Its an error; both aircraft are lacking the necessary flag in the HCDB. Its an error I hope to remedy if AGSI can figure out the hcompress problem.

Herman, remind me to explain the difference between "suppression of enemy air defences" (SEAD) and "destruction of enemy air defences" (DEAD). Just kidding ya.

I haven't yet tried to create a "suicide boat" of the type you describe, but the HCDB does have a nuclear armed merchant ship that will deliver a nuclear weapon with a very short range that destroys the delivering ship upon detonation. So it's easy to create a boat with very short range non-nuclear weaponry; the only question is whether the boat itself would be destroyed in the process of delivering the weapon.
