February 15, 200620 yr I have a few platforms I've constructed from scratch based on information I have been able to gather, the most complex one being the USS Midway. Whenever a DB update comes out and I install it, my platforms go away and I need to redo them from scratch. Is there some easier, less time consuming way to do this? Thanx;
February 15, 200620 yr I always defer to our resident database versioning and code guru, Tony, but if you aren't saving your own DB under a separate name, it will automatically be overwritten when you substitute the newly updated commondb file. There is no way to merge the two DB's and you can only use one DB at a time. My best suggestion (again deferring to Tony) is to keep separate filenames so your own DB isn't lost.
February 15, 200620 yr Author That certainly makes sense. Will it then be necessary so rename both files in order to switch between the two? I know MS Access will allow me to work on any file with an .mdb extension, but it seems to me that GE will only access pfData2002.mdb in the Harpoon root directory. Another solution would be if I could copy and paste individual records between the two .mdb files, the old one and the updated one, since only a couple of platforms would be involved. Unfortunately, if you can do that, I'm not aware of how. Any advice from MS Access experts out there? Thanx:

Thanx: I use diferent folders wich contains the pfdata file. one for the hcdb one for the hc_euro_db one for the hc_ww2_db and the last one for the hc_euro_db i´m working on Regards René

Thanx: The GE doesn't talk with the pfData file at all but rather with the commondb.res file that is created when you Export the database from the PE. Rene has a great approach putting the different pfData files in separate directories and using the Browse button from the PE main menu to select the DB he would like to work on. I use a different approach, my pfData files are all in my main HC directory, just named uniquely. I also use the Browse button at the PE main menu to switch between them. For instance I have... pfData2002.mdb - the stock DB HCDB-060226.mdb - HCDB... HDCB-060103.mdb - HCDB... HCBlankDB.mdb - Template/Blank database HCStrikerFictionalDB.mdb - My own project, some day soon public, realistic and totally off the wall platforms pfDataWWII.mdb - Rene's WWII database Anyway, you have many ways of organizing the files.
March 29, 200620 yr I always wondered about that. If the GE and the MDB file aren't linked directly, that would solve my problem. One more DB question. I noticed that AC Elevators and Cat's on a CV are listed in the PE with location numbers. Is there a source someplace as to what these numbers equate to as far as actual location on the flight deck? The Cat's aren't too bad, since there are only 4 of them, but there are 12 location numbers for the Elevators, ranging from 7 to 24. The only way I've found so far is to place an Elevator, export the DB, run the GE with the new platform and look to see where the Elevator shows up. Thanx: Buddha
