File Name: Bad Moon Rising File Submitter: CV32 File Submitted: 7 Apr 2007 File Category: WestPac Bad Moon Rising The launch of a Chinese lunar module experiment has failed, with the spacecraft returning to earth somewhere in the central Sea of Okhotsk (according to USAF Space Command). What is alarming, however, is that a scientist from the Chinese space program has defected to Japan, and he has some ominous news. He claims that the rocket was actually carrying an anti-satellite weapon that was being launched by the PRC as a prelude to an impending attack against Taiwan. The race is on to recover the module. Released January 2006. Click here to download th…

File Name: Dynasty File Submitter: CV32 File Submitted: 7 Apr 2007 File Category: WestPac Dynasty The war with the Americans and its puppet allies is several days old, and going well. So well, in fact, that there are signs of severe fractures in the political support for the war in Washington. Beijing believes the American President is becoming increasingly fearful of losing the war, and may try to neutralize our nuclear deterrent as a prelude to their own escalation to nuclear conflict. To play from the Blue side, try the scenario "The Ninth Immortal". Released February 2006. Click here to download this file

File Name: The Ninth Immortal File Submitter: CV32 File Submitted: 7 Apr 2007 File Category: WestPac The Ninth Immortal War with the People's Republic of China is several days old, and going well. So well, in fact, that there are signs of severe fractures in the political structure in Beijing. National Command Authority is becoming increasingly concerned that the PRC may raise the stakes and risk nuclear escalation rather than face humiliation. Satellite reconnaissance indicates a brand new Chinese ballistic missile submarine is preparing to go to sea. To play from the Red side, try the scenario "Dynasty". Released February 2006. File Name: Predator or Prey File Submitter: CV32 File Submitted: 7 Apr 2007 File Updated: 7 Apr 2007 File Category: WestPac Predator or Prey Having taken responsibility for its own defence, and in the face of increased dialogue and openness on the part of the North, the Republic of Korea has tacitly encouraged the departure of US troops on the Korean Peninsula. Responsibilities elsewhere have accelerated this redeployment and reshaped the American presence from a military force into a wholly diplomatic delegation. An end to the decades old stand-off between the two Koreas appears imminent, and yet something is not quite right about this new atmosphere of peace…

As part of the run-up to the release of Harpoon Commander's Edition, I've decided to dust off some After Action Reports that I did for Harpoon Classic's first battlesets, GIUK, NACV and MEDC. It is hoped that, besides enjoyment of a Cold War era story played out in Harpoon scenarios, this series of AAR's will stimulate one or more of the community's scenario designers (old and new alike) to fashion new Cold War scenarios for the Westpac theater. Enjoy. Scenario 1: NACV 1.0 – Any Port in a Storm Background Although war at sea has been raging for several days, many merchant ships have not yet made it to safe haven, and additionally, many NATO warships have…

117 new Harpoon scenarios to enjoy! David Ennis has kindly decided to share his private collection of vintage Harpoon Classic scenarios with the Harpoon community. All 117 of these scenarios have never before been publicly available. David is the 15th designer to post his scenarios. This makes a total of 123 scenarios released this year and we aren't even out of January, yet! This must be a record for the greatest number of scenarios published in a single day. Congratulations and thanks to David for sharing his work. Comments and suggestions are encouraged by the author. These scenarios are made with the older Harpoon Classic 97 version, but play jus…

After Action Report: The Battle of El Arish A HC scenario by Mark Gellis To watch for signs of an imminent Soviet/Egyptian attack, the IDF/AF immediately launched one of two Boeing 707 aircraft equipped with the new and still experimental Phalcon AEW&C radar systems. It would hopefully provide a better picture of the battlespace than the E-2 Daya systems. Immediately, two surface action groups (SAGs) - presumably the enemy - were detected just north of Port Said, and moving west. One of the SAGs was soon evaluated as comprising Soviet ships, namely a Kresta II cruiser, Udaloy destroyer, and a Krivak I frigate. They would prove a formidable foe for the Is…

Friends, Just to let you know, I've posted a new scenario on FilesofScenShare. (Brad, please feel free to re-post it here.) It's a battle between Israel and Egypt in a fictional 1990 setting (although inspired by real historical events after the Six Day War), with Egypt getting a little help from the Soviets... Mark

After Action Report: Operation Island Wind A scenario by Akula Let me say, first of all, this scenario is indeed a job well done, especially for a first completed and released scenario. I don't profess to be an expert, but I've created a few scenarios and played a few, and this one was really a good job. Hats off ! As well, I must point out just how "prophetic" this scenario turned out to be. The very same day that Akula posted his scenario announcement, North Korea launched half a dozen missiles or more, arousing Japan’s ire. To set up for the strike against the missile base, I moved the three surface action groups (centred on the Kongo class Aegis de…

AAR: Cruise Control [spoiler Alert] A Harpoon Classic scenario By Mark Gellis The Non-Combatant Evacuation Operation is likely one of the most difficult missions to undertake. Not only must the evacuation force fend off threats to itself, but it must also attend to the needs of the evacuees. This was the mission assigned to the LPD Iwo Jima. The situation had the Cruise liner, LPD Trenton, HSV sailing independently. This meant that they would essentially be naked to aggression. With an unknown submarine reported in the area, I felt that it was just too risky to allow for them to sail alone. One torpedo would be all that was required to scuttle the…

Cruise Control The 32nd new scenario of the year! Following the Israeli-Lebanese War of 2006, Lebanon was left weakened and unstable. Syria felt it was in its best interests to occupy the country. Beirut has come under attack and American forces are scrambling to rescue refugees. This scenario requires Harpoon Classic version 16b11 or later and also the HCDB_060614 for maximum efficiency. A hypothetical scenario that explores Japan making a surgical strike against North Korea's missile test center. This is not a leisurely task, as you have less than 24 game hours to complete the mission. The player should attempt to limit collateral damage, as the target is very specific. This is my first completed and released scenario, so feedback will be greatly appreciated.

AAR: Beida-La-Boom [spoiler Alert] A Harpoon Classic scenario By Mark Gellis Operation Yankee Slam was underway and the Marine Expeditionary Unit – Special Operations Capable [MEU-SOC] was nearing their line of departure. Unfortunately, the only meaningful air cover was based at Aviano airfield, nearly 700nm away. The task group only had a handful of Harriers for local protection so an E-3 Sentry and a gaggle of F-15 Eagles were tasked with immediate air protection for the ships. An EC-130E also accompanied them and thoroughly jammed Libyan radar to the point of near uselessness. The Libyans may not have been technologically advanced, but they were bra…
