Scenario Design & Discussion

A forum for discussion of scenario design for Harpoon Classic/Commander's Edition

  1. Hello! Recently, thanks to a post in Matrix forum, I bought the book STRIKE GROUP REAGAN; being an Harpoon player, I loved it a lot! BTW, as soon as possible, I'm thinking to build a couple of scenarios based on it. Today I discovered another book titled THE SIXTH BATTLE and I bought it as well. So my question is simple ... are there other books enjoyable by an Harpoon player and suitable to be used as a base for scenarios? Thanks in advance! Roberto

AAR: Roman Thunder [spoiler Alert] I always enjoy scenarios that involve Algeria. I'm not sure why. Maybe it’s the country's tumultuous and ever-changing relationship with the West; or the French colonial heritage; or the sinister nature of the bloody internal conflict that Algeria has seen because of militant Islamic groups; or maybe it's simply because the regional geography (North Africa and Europe being separated by a relatively narrow portion of the Mediterranean) makes for a great Harpoon scenario. In any event, I was pleased to see Mark's latest scenario threw Algeria into the mix. I enjoyed this scenario thoroughly. The warning in the Orders about bein…

AAR: LaGrange 6 [spoiler Alert] A Harpoon Classic scenario By Brad Leyte The crisis had arisen almost too quickly for the newspapers to report. Military intelligence was caught behind the curve and failed to provide sufficient warning of impending events. When the pot boiled over, few units were ready and those that were ready were dispersed throughout the Mediterranean theatre. The Makin Island PhibRon was, literally, caught between a rock and a hard place. She found herself neatly sandwiched between the immense Russian base of Krasnodar and the Romanian base at Kogalceanu. A Fencer E jammer was immediately despatched to cover the Makin Island PhibRon. …

Easing back into Harpoon and want to set up some simple scenarios to experiment with the variious weapon systems. I'm using Clancey's RSR as a template for setting up Iceland as a Soviet base against which to conduce air attacks, which leads to a couple of questions: 1) As I see it the original four battlesets are the only ones that that include the Soviet Union, right? 2) The only way to adjust the weapon systems present at a base are via the Platform Editor, right? For example, as per RSR, I would like to add 4x SAM6 launchers, so I would have to go to the Platform Editor to do this - however, if I remember correctly that would not be possible for the orginal …

After Action Report: The Battle of El Arish A HC scenario by Mark Gellis To watch for signs of an imminent Soviet/Egyptian attack, the IDF/AF immediately launched one of two Boeing 707 aircraft equipped with the new and still experimental Phalcon AEW&C radar systems. It would hopefully provide a better picture of the battlespace than the E-2 Daya systems. Immediately, two surface action groups (SAGs) - presumably the enemy - were detected just north of Port Said, and moving west. One of the SAGs was soon evaluated as comprising Soviet ships, namely a Kresta II cruiser, Udaloy destroyer, and a Krivak I frigate. They would prove a formidable foe for the Is…

  11. HDS1 4.0 Sichelshnih, turned out for me the best scenario for a long time, it really surprised me, I started to feel like doing an AAR half way through it, thus I have no notes for the first part but I have some save games to work from. I'm playing blue side. Scenario background is the US 2nd armored division being surrounded in Germany, at Willhelmshaven, need to be evacuated in 3 days, shipped to the UK via sealift. Victory conditions look interesting, game time limit is 3 days AND at least 12 transport ships (MRCH) must embark at W.haven (be on station for 1 hour) AND at least 10 MRCH need to reach the UK coasts (onsta 1 hour) AND W.haven port has to be protected for …

AAR: Spanish Fury by Mark Gellis Task Group Andalucia immediately reported multiple air contacts rising from Algerian runways. It looked as though the Algerian government was not going to take the Spanish ultimatum lying down and were serious about defending their sovereignty. To compound matters, an unknown subsea contact was reported by FFG Reina Sofia. Unfortunately, the Senior Officer Present Afloat [sOPA], was unable to launch any helos to prosecute her as they would be flying amidst numerous hostile Algerian jets and helos simply cannot evade jet fighters. They would have to investigate the old-fashioned way and run down the contact with their hull-mou…

Kaliningrad is absolutely vital for the Russians since it is superbly located for cutting off the Baltic Republics from Nato via occupying the Suwalki Gap and threatening Nato countries with Iskander ballistic missiles.
