Scenario Design & Discussion

A forum for discussion of scenario design for Harpoon Classic/Commander's Edition

  1. Second Taiwan Strait Crisis (versionB) View File This scenario has been written to be playable in Harpoon Classic version 2022.027 (last available Matrix Patch) and is a variation of my previous version A 2nd Taiwan Strait Crisis Escalation. Play in Westpac BS using HCCW-140314 DB. On 24 and 25 August 1958 Chinese Communist (PRC) forces and Taiwanese (ROC) forces clashed in the vicinity of Dongding Island, which the Nationalist (ROC) troops controlled. The action was seen as an attempt by the communists to land on the island. This was the only naval and amphibious landing action during the crisis. ROC had begun to build m…

"Napoleon's revenge" A HCE scenario written by Donald Thomas aka donaldseadog Battleset: EC 2003, Atlantic Ocean Database: HCDB The scenario is designed to be played from the French = red side. After Action Report, Part I The headline sounded promising: Napoleon's revenge -nice! The opponents are France and the United Kingdom, they have without a doubt a long common history. Ok, let's start with a force composition check: - a powerful carrier group centered around the Charles de Gaulle - three nuclear attack subs and - two airfields, one deploying the fine Rafale fighter bomber This should be enough to sink the Ark Roy…

  5. I have been unable to change a group's speed in the Scenario Editor. I've tried different delta's (1 sec, 1 hour, 1 hour before the time limit in case the timing is in terms of time left in the scenario) without any success. I realize I must be doing something wrong but ? Would someone suggest how I can change a group's speed at the beginning of the game (e.g., group ADU has a max speed setting in the Battleset Scenario I am hoping tp modify - I would like it to be at creep speed as soon as possible to the opening of the game). Thank you.

They are small, and playable from RED or BLUE in each case. I hope that these will serve as a training tool for beginners, and an overview of the relative capabilities of American, French, Russian, and British carrier groups around 2014 or so for more advanced players. "Historical" accuracy is a goal, so Tomcats, Backfires, Vikings, etc. are absent in this collection. A gu…

Spoilers apply! * * * * * * After Action Report : Eviction Notice This new scenario by Patrick Howard (aka rainman), for the EC2003 Battle of the Atlantic battleset, has a great and altogether familiar premise. The timeless battlesets of Harpoon Classic are chock full of scenarios centered on the North Atlantic - and Iceland in particular. Many of them also depict player controlled Soviet forces in control of Iceland. This time around, as commander of modern day Russian forces who have seized a firm grip on Iceland - and moved in substantial forces - you must hold your position while threatened by American and British forces bent on serving your '…

My aim in this scenario is to capture the flavour of small and very limitated conflicts, almost naval guerrilla warfare. It's also inspired by the recent implementation of the Lepanto/Fletcher class destroyers in the simulation DataBase and of course in the vivid h…

Friends, As always, I am looking for ideas for new scenarios. Here is a generic idea that could be fleshed out in a lot of ways; I would like to see your ideas about possible variations. It all starts when country A does (or appears to do) something really annoying or even frightening to country B. Country B has a big enough navy to give it a regional or global reach, so it promptly blockades some or all of country A's major ports. Country B figures that the economic woes caused by the blockade will even the score (and, if all goes well, without bloodshed). Unfortunately, things do not go well. One of two things happen... 1) Country A decides t…

This scenario is designed for play by the BLUE side only. The year 1983 has sometimes been described as the 'most dangerous year'. Certainly an argument can be made that this is true, at least as far as the Cold War was concerned. A number of events occurred during 1983 that brought the two superpowers of the era - the United States and the Soviet Union - as close to the brink of war as they had ever been. On 8 March 1983, American President Ronald Reagan delivered a speech …
