Like date and time math, calculating distance is not as easy as one would think. So pull up your inner game designer or mathematician or GIS analyst and help out a fellow (me). Issues: The Earth is a spheroid, not flat, not a sphere. The platforms in our game do insane things like fly above the surface (more specifically above sea level) and sail below sea level (and if you get fancy some sail above sea level). Changing altitude uses or produces excess energy. Just something to think about. In HC distances are calculated most often along Geodesic (which will stuff into the wrong but well known term Great Circle) routes that place the two platforms …

And in the context of the Tom Clancy death. For me is particularly important, great part of my formation from my very early years came from "Popular Mechanics/Mecánica Popular edición Caribe", perhaps my father was one of 50 Spaniards or so purchasing the magazine those years; http://www.popularmechanics.com/technology/military/weapons/tom-clancys-legacy-the-military-entertainment-complex-15995880?click=pm_news

50 years ago the first Mach 2 fighters ... I was a very little boy, and the Tanguy and Laverdure comic strips configure in great part my future life ... I see now the things I was thinking were great, now also are great and remembered. I'm happy now. The Mirage IIIE is property of Albert Uderzo (first drawer of Tanguy&Laverdure and Asterix comic strips), purchased 2006, it's in an "hangarette" in his backyard, in Les Yvelines (I've read this in this month Air Fan magazine). I also remember now Albert Uderzo, 82 years old, likes also the Ferrari cars Another nostalgia made real, me and a bit battered preseries Mirage IIIA and Super Mystere B2 http:/…

Herman pointed out to me last night on the chat that "Sortie" was a noun and that I was yet another American "butchering" the English language. Yes H, it is a noun but, per dictionary.com, can also be used correctly as an intransitive verb (see below "sortieing"). sor·tie (sôr'tÄ“, sôr-tÄ“') Pronunciation Key n. An armed attack, especially one made from a place surrounded by enemy forces. A flight of a combat aircraft on a mission. intr.v. sor·tied, sor·tie·ing, sor·ties To go on a sortie. [French, from feminine past participle of sortir, to go out, from Old French.] You Sir, stand corrected. dictionary.com's sortie

This is an invitation to everyone here to come up with suggestions of global or strategic implications that would halt, or severely limit a 2007+ conflict in the Persian Gulf. The United Nations comes to mind, as well as a collapse of will in the Gulf Cooperation Council as a whole or independent members, and/or conflicts or other crisis’ occurring out of theater such as a PRC-Taiwan or North Korea-South Korea situations heating up. Even the US congress could potentially cut off funding Each Gulf Strike edition had it’s own diplomatic or global event phase where at the beginning of a game turn a D10 was rolled, on the result of a “1â€, another D10 is rolle…

So those few of you who visit us on IRC noticed the absence of the IRC server from mid-day Friday through Saturday mid-afternoon. That was planned as the server was moving physically a few blocks to a new location. I met Comcast at the new location on Saturday. There was an existing Comcast business cable Internet connection there and we managed to get my signal on that line (I was pretty amazed that went off without so much as a hiccup). Life was good until today when when someone else from Comcast showed up (I was not there this time) and promptly disconnected the line outside (at the pole or the lockbox I do not know, nor does it matter). They were fulfilling t…

First, a big shout of Thank You to JudgeDredd over on the Matrix Forums. He sent me his copy of TAW at no charge, with all the box and manual and fixins! Next was getting the game to run on Vista, my answer came from SinHQ in rather short order (and yes, it works here on Vista, a notebook even). http://www.simhq.com/forum/ubbthreads.php?...575&fpart=1 Time to read the manual and will retrieve the joystick from work tomorrow.

Citadel to put locks on all barracks rooms The Associated Press Posted : Monday Apr 23, 2007 10:23:59 EDT CHARLESTON, S.C. — The Citadel will install locks on all cadet rooms by next semester, a break with tradition that stems from concerns about safety in the wake of the Virginia Tech shootings. Male cadets have no locks on their barracks doors in keeping with the school’s honor code. Female cadets can lock their doors from the inside. Now, all cadets will get keys to lock their doors from the outside. “This decision in no way compromises the honor system. The personal standards that a cadet does not lie, cheat or steal nor tolerate those who do rema…
