I don't want to do spoilers or tell-a-tale, but this week I did rewatch this TV series (I saw it probably 1982) and surprisingly the plot is directly Cold War related! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Nightmare_Man

I saw this on Youtube and thought it was cute... The song, "Virgin's High" is the theme to anime called Sky Girls, so it seems appropriate that someone used it as the soundtrack for images of the Japanese Air Force. Sky Girls actually contains some pretty good flying scenes, although some of the tactics employed against the giant tentacled horrors are rather bizarre. What is not bizarre is that, when monsters attack, and exotic technology is Earth's only hope, it is completely reasonable to have the priceless prototypes armed and piloted by Japanese schoolgirls. Everyone knows that's just common sense! Here's the actual opening of the anime, in case an…

Is anyone going to NAVCON this year? http://www.navcongames.com/ We're going to try to organize a meet there in 2014. The organizers and H4 Paper game master were easy to contact and have patiently answered my questions while giving me crap for being excited about a convention over a year away. If you aren't going this year, reserve your early October 2014 to come and enjoy watching or participating in some paper Harpoon as well as meet some of the faces behind forum posts.

Thanks to Tony and his hometown Minnesota Twins for shipping Johan Santana to the Met's. After last year's debacle on the final day, we can at least look forward to spring training with if not MLB Pitcher 1a, then 1b.

Just a reminder that if you come to chat on IRC (please do), make sure you say something. Someone with the nickname Wolff just came through and didn't say anything and wasn't noticed a result. Plus it is isn't the best chat etiquette to come and be silent so speak up. 1. While playing ANW against Herman Hum, he told me that there was a torpedo heading for my last submarine. I said that I'd believe it when I "heard" it. Then I got wiped out by a nuclear "Starfish". But it was still a draw. 2. Witnessing a Ka-25 helicopter help take out two submarines in "Surge into the Barents". Please, add your own.

So who has read Larry's new novel? I went looking for it at a local book store and it wasn't on the shelves. I'll try the Chapters chain another day.
